Bishop takes his county when becoming Pope

I am wondering if this is WAD :

When the Pope dies, a new bishop becomes Pope (so far, WAD). When becoming Pope, the bishop bring his Bishopric to the Papal States with him . For example, the bishop of Narbonne, vassal of the duke of Toulouse, himself vassal of the King of France, is elected Pope, and suddenly the county of Narbonne is now part of the Papal States.

So far, it has happened for me each and every time a Pope is elected, with Narbonne, then Bremen, then Galitia. I am wondering if this is by intent, or if this is an unexpected result of the generic rules of inheritance.

Historically at least, when a Bishop is elected Pope, another took his old post, and the province didn't become part of the Papal States...

yea , that happens in game , and should by corrected I think
and I run on another problem concerning bishops, my vassal bishop was elected a pope but I got event that another ruler is controling pope, annoying

The controller of the pope is his nearest blood relation. I controlled him as King of France one, but when my heir inherited the controller became my dead king's brother (and my new king's uncle). I definitely threw him a dirty look !

In my game in 1150, the pope owns huge areas, as every time a new pope is elected the papal states gets his territory.

This results in the noblemen appointing new bishops, who then become popes, giving papal states more power.

I fear that by the time i get to the 1500 century the papal states will own all of europe!

Yeah, I found this very annoying too. IMO the pope should automatically assign a new bishop in the bishopric, and the bishopric should stay under the old liege.

It's also great when an Orthodox bishop in the Byzantine Empire dies and is replaced by a German Catholic bishop because the Pope gets to appoint replacements.

I was playing Byzantium, and one of my Prince/Archbishops became pope. Suddely, I lost about 8 provinces to the Papal States, as all of his vassals were now loyal to the Papal States. I threw my hands up in frustration with that and other issues, decided to stop that game.

yes in my game too, the papal states are now the second largest kingdom, and they splinter up the map,

now they grabbed my archbishop of Majorca! :(

I agree - although maybe if his loyalty is low enough there should be a chance the new bishop becomes a vassal of the pope. If so, you should at least get a claim on the land - as it stands now you don't even get that.

FIXED IN 1.03 :)
