Civic buildings have always been used to invoke fear, demonstrate power and humble peasants. With the loss of France, we have lost the great Versailles event series. So I propose a series of seven events which replace that, linked perhaps with the high-points of nations across Europe.

I have included 4 suggestions below, one of which is a rewrite of a TO event.

So pick a nation, and a function, and I will match an architect and a style to it.

event = {

desc = " After a fire destroyed many of the existing trading halls in Lübeck in 1485, the great german masons were commissioned to provide a hall for commerce to inspire Europe, at a time when the League was at it's apogee. A Late Gothic masterpiece of vaulted halls, 3 gigantic collonaded buildings linked by perfectly proportioned civic spaces, set the tone for a revitalisation of the centre of the city."

As Grand Master, he decided to establish an academy with the purpose of modernising the Teutonic Order's armies. It was a building intended to instill pride into the soldiers, and humble the Teutonic Order's foes, and for this von Altenburg coaxed the great Andrea Palladio out of retirement to plan and design the school."

GOLDEN GATES of KYIV would be a good one for the Ukraine to have rebuilt

...although the referenced website notes that they were opened in 1048, which even for an aberrated Ukraine, would be 400 years too early. Perhaps a replica, built after the last one collapsed?

Certainly fortresses match the Ukraine strategy...

You could have events where the Alhambra or the Hagia Sofia were destroyed by fire/earthquake and then are rebuilt.

mikl,

One event has the following command line that either doubles-up accidentally on the previous luxury line, or else is missing a return carriage.

command = { type = gainbuilding which = -1 value = luxury } command = { type = cash value = -500 }

However, please note that any event which gains a manufactory with very few exceptions should be costed much higher than 500 ducats. I recommend 800 as a good minimum starting point, higher if the manu is being built ahead of tech schedule. Even at 800 ducats, its a sweet, sweet deal. Most manus run about 1000+ ducats, higher if you have many of them built, and more again if your inflation is bad. Plus the event builds them instantly, rather than taking two years.

This issue has been debated in another thread and garnered no significant opposing points of view. We need to be consistent with these kinds of things so that one nation doesn't get an easy ride to manufactory wealth-and-tech.

Otherwise, this is all fantastic stuff.

The mongols tore them down. for the gilded copper

A late reply, but the Münchner Dom seems to be utterly worthless. 500 Ducats, and all you get is 200 VP, +2 stability and some changes to the sliders.

How about some free conversions, raised tax in some provinces and some kind of a manufactory (or a waked-up chain of events, simulating a manufactory by giving techboosts each year, and such)?

Well, an manufactory alone should be at least 700 or more, most costing 1000+ after you have built a few. Most conversions cost 250+ . You are expecting a lot for an investment of just 500 ducats!

However, the tax increase of +1 for the province might be appropriate. Or else lower the cost of the building.

Raise the cost to 600 ducats then... Like the Military Academy, which after all does give you a manufactory for less than 700 ducats. :)
500 for nothing in return seems a bit harsh for the poor Bavarians though...

Either +1 province tax in München, or a permanent province revolt risk of -1 in event effects for München, if that's possible.

Military Academy event? Must be in the Bavarian file that we have not reworked yet. Guarenteed I will change that when I find it! The benchmark for AB II is 700 ducats for a Luxury/Arts manu and 800 for the others. The exceptions are those manus-via-event which come up very early in the game when economies are smaller, like the Naval Academy in Cork, which is a bit cheaper.

I like the -1 RR for the province combined with +1 tax. Nice.

I meant the military school, "Von Altenburg's Military School", further up in this thread, a Teutonic Order event.

Thanks :) Just thought of the -1 RR thing, it's a church after all.

Von Altenburgs Military School is a TO original. Bit like the Swabian event I just found, for which you can buy a Manufactory and 2000 Land Tech points for 400 ducats, or just the Manufactory for 200.

I'd also like there to be more non-military buildings. In real life the continent is littered with great palaces and churches, but few "Academies". It's a reflection of the games preference for Land Tech and conquests.

So I am working on it. More churches to the greater glory of FSM.

I find the Alhambra a tad bit....silly.Considering it was built in the troubling times of Muslim Granada, a cornored region of Southern Spain, I cant believe the Nasrids would construct it.Most likely, they would have expanded the Risafa palace of the Ummayeds, or constructed and expanded the Great Mosque of Ahyl al-Hufra.

Sweet thinking, Calipah.

Please post the event! :D

Mike,

Can you prepare the text for me for the following events for Brittany? Brittany will, commencing with the reign of Ana, build a magnificent ‘state of the art’ port facility that will occur after the port of the capital burns. She takes the lead an demands that the parlement approve substantial funds to not simply rebuild core parts, but to drastically redesign the port area to accommodate the new designs in ocean-going vessels. The first event I have written the text for, but the follow-up event needs your touch.

Matty

The labyrinthine collection of wharves, piers and warehouses made for dangerous manouvering with vessels often becoming lost and goods being unloaded great distances from the intended warehouse. The fire, though a disaster at the time with loss of life and property, opened the area for reconstruction in a more organized manner and with a capability to accommodate the larger, ocean-going vessels being pioneered by Eireann and Breton shipbuilders. The water frontages have traditionally been owned by powerful individuals, aristocracts and the wealthier merchants. Queen Ana is determined to step in, take control of the port are by the crown and rebuild with an eye to trade and exploration, but at great expense the state.”

Yeah i think that all of them have to be multiple events.

It seems though that having 7 wonders might be more interesting if they were spread out through the world and did many different things.

Not just rebuilding of burned down stuff.

For the Maya, they already have enough universities. What about a great palace/temple in Chitchen Itza? For Cordoba, maybe a great pair of fortresses on gibraltar and tangiers? Swabia should be able to build a great bank in Zurich. Rome gets to rebuild the Colloseum. (seriously we need an event where the papal states declares itself the roman empire reborn). I think that the Abbasid caliphate should get to rebuild both the Lighthouse and Library of alexandria (at different times). And maybe Eire can get an event where it builds a great city in Canada and then moves its capital there. I think that Bavaria could get a Military academy like you said, but it would get a conscription center there. What if Scotland got to build itself a Giant Parliament building?

Perhaps Jerusalem could come with a wonder. Christians controlling Jerusalem could build an Uber fortress. Muslims controlling jerusalem could build a Giant temple or library. Something.

In my vinland events i'm thinking of them getting a huge temple/hall to the Norse gods.

I think that Cordoba has the events you suggest, the Giralda and Rusafa buildings.

I don't think the Eire idea of moving its capital makes any sense. No offense. Wouldn't happen.

Architectural wonders are really, really expensive and are built by the wealthiest nations. Vinland will be dirt poor at start. They may have built a very beautiful temple that will enchant tourist for generations, but a massive and imposing structure. On Newfoundland? It's trees are all black spruce. Nothing higher than about 12 foot. Lots of rock, but all of it hard to quarry with their technology.

The Maya one is interesting. Maybe it is something only the Maya that remain Pagan can build if they survive and flourish, a reasons for remaining pagan?
