Knowing the Umayyad forces were numerically superior, Niptasan challenged Abdul-Gafur to a duel to death to prevent the war but the sultan did not take the bait and invaded Araouane with his large army. As expected, the Berbers were defeated at the Battle of Taghaza."

"On 10 January 793, Maharaja Krishna II of the Rashtrakuta Kingdom was slain by Mayor Gayada of Bhubaneswar at the Battle of Cakrakuta between a small Rashtrakuta unit of 400 men and the Bhaumakara army led by Mayor Kalasa of Asanapat. Seeing their maharaja fall in midst of thr fighting, Rashtrakuta soldiers panicked and the Telugu Raja Katayavema of the Yuddhamallid Raj took command of the retreating men. Katayavema sent a messenger to Devagiri to deliver the news of the maharaja's demise at just the age of 22. Thus, Krishna II's 10 years old half-brother Jogama became the new maharaja."
