I will be playing as the county of Ulaid in 1066. The style will be the style Veldmaarschalk used in 'The Last Lombard Princes of Italy'
I would appreciate feedback and I don't know how to insert screenshots yet, so if someone could tell me how, that would be great . Enjoy!
Who he was: Cu Uladh was a very religious man. He was a devout Catholic and expected everyone else to be too. Although he claimed to be the epitome of a good Christian ruler, he was a zealous tyrant. Anyone who did not go to church every day was deemed a heretic, and unfit for life. Many believed it was because of the absence of his parents during his childhood. For many years, the only company he had were his fourth cousins, Dun Sleibe and Donnchad. Many times a day he related to them that although they were related he was the ruler because his ancestors had seized power from theirs, and were therefore stronger. In his later years he would ride up to random people, be they nobles, burghers, clergy, or peasants, and tell them how he was superior to them because among his direct ancestors was Mael Cobo, the first Catholic count of Ulaid.
What he didDuring his reign he didn't do much in the realm of international affairs. The only thing he did of worth was that he made an alliance with the Count of Tir Connail, who he plotted to use in a war against the county of Tir Eoghain. Once he captured Tir Eoghain, he planned to make himself Duke of Ulster, and, eventually, King of Ireland. Sadly, he neither forged a war, or became Duke of Ulster. Has cruel to many people within his court, the only reason being they were 'undesirable'. Because he did not want his descendants to have to compete with his distant cousins descendants, he made Dun Sleibe a priest and forbade Donnchad to marry. Even worse, he deliberately married the youngest woman in his court, Gormlaith Ui Mordha, who just happened to be the woman Dun Sleibe was in love with, and kept a mistress, Brigit O'Donnaghaile, who shared his religious tendencies. He rumoredly ordered an entire family, even the children, two of whom were infants, to be dunked in a lake when the father made a remark about his mistress.
What it was like: During Cu Uladh's reign, Ireland was split into several counties and duchies. Cu Uladh's main ambition was to unite Ulster, the northmost three counties.
Family His only relatives for a long time were his cousins. However, towards the end of his reign he got his wife, Gormlaith, pregnant. His mistress and he never had children, since had given up carnal pursuits, other than for procreative purposes, many years before.
What Happened Before his wife gave birth, he died of natural causes at the age of 43 in 1067, andthe thing he dreaded most happened. His line was disinherited and his oldest cousin, Dun Sleibe, became the new count.
