Hi Im interested in getting involved in MP, but have a few questions,

firstly, what is Valkrynet and how do I check my ICQ number?

Valkyrienet is a place where people gather to play HOI (assuming you want the non-technical explanation). When you the game select multiplayer and then valkyrienet. Then select the HOI channel on the top right drop down.

Your ICQ number is at the top of your ICQ window
