I am new to CK: DV, and am considering starting my first war. Before I do, I have a couple of questions regarding my situation, and what a couple of factors will mean for me.
I am playing the count of Neuchatel, with only my starting province. The count of Savoy is my rival, and I just got a claim on his lands. Savoy has two counties under his rule.
Both of us are vassals of Germany. It is about 1085, and Germany is involved in a long-running war with England (pretty uneventful as far as wars go). A few groups have broken off from Germany, but nothing major. (Bohemia separated, along with a few isolated bishophrics.)
My troops just finished serving my liege for a long time - consequently my loyalty is very low, but improving now that my regiments are home. Savoy's loyalty is fairly high - though I don't know how he has managed this, as his regiments are both off serving for the king, and have been for a while. (I would think that he would suffer the same "regiment off serving for your liege" loyalty penalties as I did, but it doesn't seem to happen for the AI.)
First, both of Savoy's provinces are non-contiguous with mine. Will this be a problem either in waging war (I will have to cross neutral territory), or, presuming I win, in managing the provinces after the war?
Second, with both of us being vassals of the King of Germany, will the king automatically come to Savoy's defense, or will he let it ride?
