I have a few questions that I've been wondering about.

1. Is there a maximum number of members an alliance may have? For a long time, four was the most I saw (me included), and then I managed to put five in my current one. Does it get harder to add new ones as you get more and more?

2. If you take a colony or TP as a condition of the Treaty of Tordasillas, does that decrease your relations with the country you take from or otherwise impact you?

3. What are the conditions under which a vassal will de-vassalize themselves. I know Naples starts as a vassal of Spain, but at some point, that ended in my current game, and the little idiots declared war on me. I pretty much thought I was tight with them, so what's up there?

#1 It seems like it. I have trouble going over 4 allaince memebers and will have trouble with more than 5 royal marriages. I don't know if it is just the luck of the draw catching up to me or if there is some kind of "limit" built into the AI.

#1

It seems that unless there is a RM for most of the members a 5'th wont be allowed and I have never seen a 6'th one before.

If their relations with you drop to a low enough level then they will declare themselves fully independent, starting a war between you. Probably, you're expansion caused you to acquire a significant badboy value and drastically lowered relations, prompting Naples to rebel. Gifts of money can preent this from occurring.

Same problem here with the alliance of over 5 members but I've managed 6 on some occasions. Royal Marriages are a bit of a doddle and it's normally quite easy to get these arranged with all "eligible" states. The only rule that I seem to know is that a Royal Marraige is normally accepted if relations are in range -150 to -5 (or thereabouts). Between -5 and +20, it will be rejected but sometimes I have them rejected with relations at +60 or more. I think once relations are over +100 they are always accepted.

Perhaps someone might shed some more light on the details here or maybe Huszics has written a FAQ on the diplomatic relations. I remember seeing recently one on certain effects to relations which included the effect of putting merchants out of business.

Also the fact that the relations between all these members has an impact to. There are 5 different countries that have to have "table manners" at least for them to get along to hold the alliance together. Not to mention when you go to war you will see who your true allies are ;).
