While I was writing about the literary event idea, I remembered Charter '77, which was a major event in the pro-democracy community in Czechoslovakia (as was the subsequent arrest of its authors, and the imprisonment of Vaclav Havel and exile of Pavel Kohout). Another two movements which are also worth mentioning are a) the Democracy Wall movement which briefly flourished in China during roughly the same period, and of course, the Tianenmen Square (sp?) protests which ended with similar results in 1989. Solidarity and other events which succeeded are probably not necessary for mention here - they are quite obviously important to each country where they occur - but I thought a few of the failed movements might be worthwhile to mention. I don't know enough of the specifics to give you a detail description of either Democracy Wall or Charter '77, but both movements were important (if brief) channels for dissent in their respect countries (again, Czechoslovakia and the PRC). If anyone knows more about these events, I'd be interested to see what they might suggest as possible HoI2 events that could simulate them to some reasonable degree.

Thanks - I'll try to get some more info on these, and maybe I'll try my hand at these events, as well.
