A meeting in Berlin
It was 8 in the morning on the first of january 1936 in the Führer's office in Berlin. A secret meeting was taking place, Hitler having asked for two of his best military commanders, general Guderian and amiral Raeder. Also present in the room was a diplomat, Herr Ribbentrop.
Those tree men were the core of Hitler's plan for domination over Europe. They were meeting to decide wether or not to apply the plan "Blitz" designed by Guderian for a rapid conquest of western Europe and a strong protection against the USA and the URSS. A plan whose elements would have to be in place on the 1st of september 1939, only three years and a half in the future.
Hitler came into his office and the men gathered there rose at once and saluted the absolute ruler of Germany.
"- Well gentlemen, welcome. No need to loose time, so please general give us a final summary of the plan before we agree on wether or not to apply it.
- Yes Sir. The plan calls for the immediate dissolution of the army, all 37 infantry divisions and 3 armored divisions, as well as the dissolution of the air to ground attack plane of the Luftwaffe. The Bremse class sloop and the Emden cruiser would be disarmed. All the destroyers and patrol boats would be transfered to the ports commanders in order to patrol our home waters. The building of all ships would be cancelled, except the Bismark and Tirpitz battlecruisers and the Admiral Hipper and Blücher cruisers. For three years and a halve would Germany have to give the illusion of conserving an army with only four fighters divisions and parade units...
During this time, a hundred infantery divisions with attached engineer units would have to be produced as well as 25 to 50 armored divisions with engineer forces attached, the tanks being of a medium design specificaly adapted for use against infantry while still having punch enough to cut through the french or russian tanks, event the latest prototypes like the Somua S-35. We think that the economy of ressources due to us starting from scratch should give us enough ressources to finish this in the allowed time, and we think those units should be enough to bring Poland, France, Belgium and Holland to their knees, and allow us to defend those territories even in the event of a war against the USA or the URSS. During the same period, we will have to build at least 4 battlecruisers to remplace the old ships we have, as well as at least 4 cruisers. Admiral Doenits think we may need to build some submarines too, but admiral Raeder is not so sure about it. The airforce asks for 25 to 50 divisions of a newly designed plane too. Thus along with our building program we would need a strong research program to design this new plane, new systems to give our ships an edge over the Royal Navy even when they have superior numbers and design the tank for the new divisions and discover new ways to improve the efficiancy of our infantry.
- Good, well presented. Something to add, amiral ?
- No, except that I think more ships might be needed... But the plan presented here should give us enough to close the Baltic sea to the allies, and even to patrol the north sea.
- Ribbentrop ?
- We will have to be cautious, we can not involve ourselve in any war during this period, and we will need to make many countries allies or neutral...
- Well. Apply plan Blitz !
