So, how could I say that? Spain and France are geographical expressions, while Etruria is taking its revenge on those central italians that made its name almost disappear more than a millenium before and may claim to be Italy one day?

Ho, and don't forget Frankfurt, which may finally be the capital of more than a germanic confederation...

All is well in the best world that could exist.

Etruria couldn't be more ahistorical, as it's either an almost forgotten kingdom smashed by the early romans around 300 BC, or a puppet created by France much much later in 1801 AD.

Its a shame seeing the borders in Spain unprettify themselves like that, but it is still surprisingly nice. It would be really interesting to see if, in V2, Frankfurt ends up as the new Prussia, Byzantium as the new Ottomans (Strong, but backwards) and if we get one massively dominant power, like GB. I really hope Navarra stabilizes, if only to kick the pope out of Gibraltar so Etruria can take Rome. This game is looking better and better.

P.S: This is the strongest I have ever seen the protestants. I mean, wow. Spain, The two big German powers, a giant Hungary. Can't wait to see the cultural and religious maps.

PPS: Any colonies yet? Don't spoil who, just give a yes or no. This is what fascinates me the most.

My bet is on Denmark being the superpower at the start of vicky because they have the largest income and army thus far, however their inflation being super high (16% in 1518) might make this less likely to happen.

I really hope Frankfurt unifies Germany prior to the start of Vicky 2, it matters more then Italy because Italy has been unified in every vicky game I have played so its bound to happen anyway, meanwhile I have never seen a AI created Germany (Either Bavaria becomes a great power and prevents Prussia from unifying Germany, or Austria steps in and annexes one of the small German states which prevents unification.

Since Hungary is already turning into a beast, and will likely remain there until the 1800s, I would be surprised if Hungary doesn't take German territory and prevent Frankfurt from their much needed unification.

That said if Germany does manage to get unified before Vicky 2, I would be very surprised if Germany doesn't do incredibly well in world war 1 (normally in the 1880s or 90s) world war 2 (normally in the 1910s or 20s) and world war 3 (HOI 3).

@Dasfubar, I am afraid I'm going to make you wait a bit longer for a cultural screenshot, since I plan to do it with the next global update. The situation in Iberia hasn't changed that much since CK2, though. Northeast Iberia is Basque, Danish culture is starting to get a foothold in the west, and the rest is mostly Castillian or Andalusian.

As to Etruria, if they form Italy either in EU3 or V2, they're likely to matter a lot more than normal in V2, because of their wealth and strong tech. I wouldn't be surprised to see them become a major colonial power either.

@Catapghractoi, the new world will be discovered in the 1580's, so I'll cover that after the 1581 Global Update.

~90 years late... oh well, based on how the AI colonizes, we'll probably still have a realistic timescale for the colonization.

I kind of like how the Africa update was so short. I'd rather a short update that covers a region, than no update at all. I could have completely understood our historian ignoring the Southeast african situation, but I am glad he didn't.

This will be interesting to see. My bet on how this will go is that either Denmark or Navarra will control the entirety of the Iberian Peninsula and the one that does that will most likely be the prime colonial power in the new world. I also think that both Italy and Germany will form eventually which would cause numerous wars between them over the dominance of Africa.

Navarra and Denmark have positive relations based on past updates. Meaning I don't forsee war between them, if there was war though my money would be on Denmark.
Larger army, better generals and has had a more successful wars in the past. (Navarra flopped when fight Etruria)

My bet is who ever controls Azores right now will be a prime colonial contender, since Pourtugal always does well colonially in my games.

Let's not pretend Navarra could beat Denmark. Denmark has more units, more land, and a better economy. They have room to expand and navarra is a bit cornered and as much as I like Navarrra, they can't beat the Danish menace.

Nothing can stop the Danish menace.

But navarra might pick the QftNW before danemark as it's an iberian country :p

In this case Navarra didn't magritte2 claimed that he was scarred that nobody was selecting it and was considering modding it in. He said that nobody got it until ~1580s, which means England might have gotten it first.

That said if Azores was on Demarks map before he got QFTNW, then Denmark would still have the advantage since you need a lower navy tech to colonize the new world with Azores then you do with out it.

India, 1499-1548.

Beginning in 1499, the Hindu states of India once again faced an onslaught from their muslim neighbors. Another attack by the Timurids came as no surprise, this time on the small states of Gakwar and Punjab came as no surprise.

India in 1500:

By this time the Hindu states were not as unified in purpose as they had been a few decades earlier. Although Bihar, Vijayanagar and Rajputana remained on friendly terms, King Hiradi Sahi III Gond of Gondwana had become estranged from them. Hiradi Sahi forged alliances with Mysore and Travanacore in an attempt maintain a credible defensive posture. But neither its allies nor the looming threat in the northwest prevented Bihar and Vijayanagar Bihar attacking in 1500. The war resulted in a devastating defeat for Gondwana. Vijayanagar seized the province of Bastar, and forced Hiradi Sahi to release Maharashtra as an independent state in 1502. Shortly afterward, Bihar took most of its remaining territory.

Desperate to recoup some prestige following the disastrous Bihari-Gondwanan war, Travanacore decided it would attack the island nation of the Maldives in 1504. But with their manpower insufficiently restored from the previous war, King Marhanda Vamra Gangas was shockingly defeated by the Maldives. Once again, Muslims seemed to be on the rise in India.

Meanwhile, the Timurids continued to advance in the northwest. Punjab was conquered in 1502, and Gujarat and Gakwar forced to become Timurid vassals soon afterward. But King Vijaya II Saugama was more concerned with this new muslim state, and in 1504 declared war upon them. Though the Maldives had defeated Travanacore, they were no match for the veteran commanders of Vijaya’s army. Vijayanagar soon ruled not only the former lands of Travanacore, but the Maldives themselves.

The Timurids, however, were a far more serious foe. Thinking that the new war with the Byzantines would prevent the Timurids from putting up much resistance, King Jaya Singh of Rajputana nevertheless attacked in 1506. Unfortunately, his allies in Vijayanagar and Bihar failed to come to his aid. Even so, the war went well for a few years until Jaya Singh was routed by an outnumbered Timurid army in the battle of Jodhpur in 1511. Humiliated, Rajputana was forced to relinquish its westernmost lands in 1514.

The Kingdom of Malwa was suffering from instability at this time. In 1504, a new King of Delhi was proclaimed in its northern provinces, although the King was Hindu, not Muslim. Malwa strengthened its alliance with Bihar, while Delhi made friends in the east with Taungu. In 1511, King Burhan Suklani of Bihar broke the fragile peace by attacking Taungu, triggering a declaration of war not only from Delhi but from Assam, Champa, Pegu and Lan Xang. With the help of its Buddhist allies in the east, Delhi was able to expand its realm on the North Indian plain at Bihar’s expense, and also forced Bihar to give up control of Deva Bengal.

India in 1515:

The treaty with Bihar came back to haunt King Sayid Khidr Bundela of Delhi in an unusual way. Its former allies in Assam had hoped to make the lands of Deva Bengal their own during the war and after it was over, declared war on the fledgling state, Sayid Khidr felt honor bound to protect the tiny kingdom and found himself at war with not only Assam but Champa and Pegu, the same Buddhist states that had aided him in the fight against Bihar. And then King Sutamla Malla of Assam forged an alliance with Vijayanagar. Ironically, Assam still failed to conquer Deva Bengal, but the powerful southern state demolished Sayid Khidr’s army and took possession of Delhi’s southernmost province.

War broke out in the northwest again in 1519, when Punjabi nationalists declared independence from Rajputana. Despite being hard pressed by the Byzantines by this time, the Timurids saw this as an opportunity to attack Rajputana once more. However, this time its Hindu allies came to its aid and the Timurids were beaten back.

The successful defense of Rajputana seemed to end the muslim menace to India once and for all. Deccan, the last vestige of the mighty Muslim empire that had once ruled North India, was finally extinguished in 1527 by Vijayanagar and its allies. India enjoyed twenty years of relative peace, during which Vijayanagar’s influence over the small state of Maharashtra gradually grew until it was peacefully annexed in 1548.

Finally caught up so I can make comments. It's always fun reading megacampaigns and how they start massively veering off from reality and yours has that special quality that there's no single powerful force, so any nation that blobs in one century might be reduced to smithereens in the next whereas a player one wouldn't (unless the player really messes up or they're acting the role). I like the style of jumping between regions based on when events of interest happen. I'm already wondering who the war(s) of HoI3 will be fought between but I suppose we have a game and a half before we can even think about that.

the alternative is to frequently change countries. In the only EU game I have played that got deep into the colonial era, I started as England, as soon as all of France and Germany and northern Hungary were under the British Empire (~1480), I switched over to Portugal, who was losing a war to Castille over their colonies. I won the war and the AI Britain fell apart really, really quickly. (low stability and massive infamy spells disaster)

I find EU3 gets boring really quickly because I find peace time to be incredibly boring in EUIII (but not so much so in CKII and V2) and so do nothing but war after war, and its easy enough to win most of them, so switching powers every 75 or so years is the only way to keep it interesting.
