Jeanne de Dreux, Countess of Penthièvre, 27 March 1331 -
Notable because you may start playing her at age 12. In 1331, you are third in line to succeed your uncle, the Duke of Brittany. The historical Joan of Penthièvre went on to claim the duchy for herself and her husband in the War of the Breton Succession, but lost the struggle.

Ballamadevi, Thakurani of Honnore, 1275-1284 (Hindu)

Member of the Alupa dynasty which practiced a form of matrilineal inheritance. She only becomes playable at the age of 57, but you can also play as her father. She has a son of her dynasty.

The Lankan issue is regrettable.

Thank you Rikissa! I'll add Jeanne, but not really sure about Ballamadevi. Actually, someone might have suggested her already... she's just not as fun because she'll probably die soon enough and she can't have kids.

I don't know if it still does, but the game used to have her widowed mother as a countess in France too...I believe for some reason the mother had the inbred trait

Don't know if she's been mentioned yet, but if you're looking for a "blank slate" female start, there's a child Countess of Northampton in the 1081 start. Not exactly "interesting" but hey, unmarried female rulers are rare enough to point out.

Hawis de la Pole, Countess of Powys, 1 June 1309 - 27 July 1313
The last playable Welsh ruler in the game, Hawis is unmarried from 1 June to 25 July 1309, allowing you to prevent her historical husband John of Cherleton from taking over in 1313. The last surviving members of Houses Mathrafal and Aberffraw reside in your court, allowing you to give these Welsh lines (and your own, of course) a much-needed revival. Cymru am byth!

Any more playable women? I have a feeling there could be one in the 1300s in India, specifically a vassal of the Muslim Khiljis, but I'm not sure if a ruler with a female heir died early or something. I only know because I granted the woman in question all the titles she desired to boost her opinion, and she was a mostly loyal and very pretty maharani after that.

Update: Yep, she's in the game! And she's Hindu! Her name's Devala, and she's a duchess but wants a kingdom.

Devala really should not be a ruler. Her mother the wife of Karan Vaghela was captured by Alauddin Khilji and became his wife.

Devala was later captured as well and married Khili's son Khizr Khan...when Khizr Khan was murdered in the succession fight after Alauddin's death she may have been married off in turn to the next two successors - khizr's brother Mubarak and the usurper Khusraw...but she definitely dissapears from the records after the death of Khusraw. She was never an independent reigning monarch.

I started a new game as Adelaide, Countess of Vermandois. Its been interesting so far. About 70 years in so far, and with my husband dying, I was able to marry matrilineally and keep the Karlings going. After she died, her son took over. He is married to the Queen of Aragon, and his son, the heir of Aragon is married to the Queen of Navarre. I originally married him off to one of the princesses of France, but she died at 14, so no luck there. I figure build up, then weed my way into France and the HRE.

I am very certain that in the 1337 start there is a female Muslim Turkish ruler somewhere in Persia. Not sure where though.

BTW, really good effort Kestrel Girl! I like your user name btw, kestrels are amazing animals :)

@Cardinal Sin Thank you so much! Yeah, I love birds, and I thought I'm most like a kestrel when I decided on my go-to username for everything. Small, not exactly the fastest, and I love meat :p
Hmm, I'll have to look for that ruler. I'll add her if she's really there.
UPDATE: Nope. Couldn't find anyone when I started as a Turkish count, then searched for female Turkish rulers. Are you sure?
