I had an idea to mod in a Jewish country in some isolated corner of the map, probably in Eastern Europe or maybe Britain. To make the game not boring, they would have to be civilized and able to easily spread out. Ideally, you would be able to conquer a large portion of the map and convert it to Judaism.

It doesn't have to be a large project, but I've never done much modding before, so any help would be vastly appreciated.

Any thoughts?

Judea is boring because you have no room to expand and are doomed from day one.

However, a lost kingdom of Jews somewhere in the uncharted wilderness would be a humorous scenario and infinitely more entertaining.

It would be like the original place were they wanted to put Israel after WW2, in Madagascar :D. This would be cool because there would be an entirely new culture group in the middle of other cultures which will lead to many rebellions. (kinda sounds like Israel today :D ).

It would be, if i get the time next weekend - i'll probably help if you're still looking for some help, Have you got any idea for a name for the tribe / where they would be *exactly* located?

Ah, thanks!

I'm torn between Venedae (Eastern Europe) and Damnonii (Britain). Europe provides plenty of room for expansion before ultimately coming into conflict with established empires, but a Jewish kingdom in Britain would be funny. Besides, Britain is empty anyway.

No idea for a name. If anybody has any good ideas taken from Jewish history/folklore/whatever, I'd love some suggestions. The best I can think of is "Judah" or "Khazaria" or other things vaguely related to Judaism. :p

I think the country's beginning position needs to be advantageous enough to survive the barbarian hordes that would undoubtedly flock to it but challenging enough to not make it a pushover. The provinces I mentioned above are grain provinces that border an iron province, so I think giving the country both provinces would be a good idea.

I think eastern europe would be a good choice, but it doesn't matter - what flag would they use, also? if we can get these little details down i can probably begin on it tomorrow.

the ideal would of course to be to expand the map to cover the Arabian peninsula and mod in the jewish tribes there.
but that's quite a large task I'm afraid

Perhaps you could call the country "Ephraim". After the split of the Kingdom of Israel, the northern ten tribes under Jeroboam I were still officially known as "Israel", while the southern tribes of Judah and Benjamin under Rehoboam were called "Judah". However, because even the Judahites and Benjamites were ethnically Israelites, they would often refer to the northern Kingdom as "Ephraim" because Jeroboam I was an Ephraimite. This can even be seen in most of the books of the prophets where they make comparisons between the Kingdoms of Judah and Ephraim.

So if your mod is about the lost tribes of Israel, the most historically accurate name to give them would, IMHO, be Ephraim.

Ephraim sounds good, but I'm certainly not going for historical accuracy here. ;) However, you have given me an idea.

An Abridged History of the Kingdom of Eleazar said:
"Moses, where are we going?"

"The Promised Land!" Moses shouted. "Do I have to remind you every five minutes? Jesus!"

"Who?"

"Never mind," said Moses, rubbing his temples with a calloused hand. "Anyway, we'll set up camp here tonight. Tomorrow I'll hike up that mountain and see if I can see anything in the distance."

Eliezer lowered his head and walked away from the prophet, muttering under his breath. He was a young man of few wits, but he was gentle-hearted and full of passion. After reaching his friends and family, he sat with them around the fire as thoughts drowned his mind. At the encouragement of his friends, he relieved the burden of his thoughts onto them.

"I don't think Moses knows where he's going," he spoke, hesitantly, his eyes darting back and forth in the light of the fire. "How many years have we been wandering around in this desert? He says he's going up that mountain tomorrow. The last time he walked up a mountain, he came back down with a bunch of new rules! This is crazy!"

"So what are you proposing, Eliezer?"

Eliezer told them of his plans and, after much deliberation, the group vowed to follow him. That night, the group stole away and set a course of their own through the burning sands. Eventually they reached the great seas and, deciding that the Holy Land must be somewhere far away from this desolate place, constructed a great fleet to carry them over the waters. Time passed and brought them to the shores of a new land, where the land was verdant and littered with foreign flora and fauna. Here it was that they settled, with Eliezer as their ruler. This is the origin of the Tribe of Eliezer, later to become known as the Kingdom of Eleazar under the wise governance of Eliezer's son, Eleazar (who begot Eliazar, who begot Harold, who begot Eleasar).

So, the country shall be called "Eleazar." :)

Here's what flag it'll use: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Civil_Ensign_of_Israel.svg
Except the blue field will be a deep red color. This is the best idea I could come up with, so if anyone has a better idea... you know the drill.

Presenting, Eleazar!

it just needs some polishing and i'll be done with it.

Cool. This reminds me of the Vinland Fantasy Scenario for EU2. :)

Looks good! It would have taken me forever to figure out how to do that. I don't have the patience for modding. :D
