Could you explain? I dont understand how intervention of A in country B in war with C, helps country D in war with E. How does A threatens E?
There was talk of indirect war with the Soviets because of the pact with the Nazi's, which meant bombing oil deposits and helping in the winter war. But as you can see, nothing came of it.
Stalin had no interest in Germany's success or failure. The pact was a pretty good way of taking advantage of the situation and having a more favourable approach from the allies in negotiations with the USSR.
Franco-British plans for intervention in the Winter War
I think you overcomplicate it a bit JRHINDO. France was actually planning on defending Finland and hence enter into war with the Soviet Union. Also the plans of bombing oil deposits in Kaukasus as TremblingBlue says.
The most sound strategy for Soviet Union would have been to assist Germany if it was loosing against France (just like the alled did with Soviet, when she was on its way loosing against Germany). The USSR probably would have prefered fighting a weakened Germany than a strong allied faction when the war between Germany and the allies had settled.
If France and the allies had won against, and occupied Germany, war between the Allies and Soviet would almost certainly have broken out afterwards. That war would have been lost by the Soviet Union.
