Okay, terrible title. But think about it. Wiz leaves EU4 to work on other projects after helping with Stellaris. Wiz also made a giant mod for Rome. It's not Vicky 3 because that would probably be Podcat or Johan, who are both busy with other things. So clearly the next game is Rome 2. Discuss.

I like your theory. But it stands on very thin ice. But I agree Wiz would be a likely choice for a lead role in Rome II due to his experience with the mod. He must have a passion for it...

What I read was that Wiz went "to another project." Do we have any reason to think he wasn't just going to Stellaris or HoI4?

They did get a whole lot of money from EU for their project Dallas. I think the requirement to get the money was that the project would be about cultural or historical importance and as it is EU we talk about, some maybe consider Rome as an earlier version of EU;)

Yeh, but Wiz and Groogy helped Podcat with the surprise Victoria 2 patch. Stellaris won't be out for a while. Considering HOI4 is officially in beta, by the time Stellaris is out, HOI4 should be released and rolling along. Johan is taking over as lead of a mature Europa Universalis IV. In 6 months, will it need Johan to run it?

Point being, Wiz and Johan will be freed up about the same time. Was it not Johan that rallied support for Vicky 2? As a result, I think Vicky 3 is equally as likely as Rome 2.

Hopefully it is an ancients game not fixed on Rome, as that limits the game to much. Starting after the Iron Age comes, with the rise of the Greeks, Egyptians, and other power of the time would be really interesting, with Rome coming later. Far better than to have the game starting around 200bc or similar where Rome is already the dominant power, & which caused the first game to fail.

Update on this matter. @Wiz was one of the main people behind this free time project. Due to personal reasons he's had more important things to think about. I'm still keeping track of this so it won't be forgotten.
Your theory has holes.

Also, Rome II. :p

From the thread you linked with BjornB's statement:
Victoria 2 - 3.04 BETA

Vicky 3 not only confirmed but already in beta!

No, the two we know are free are Besuchov and Wiz. Johan is always busy on various projects.

Johan is always busy on various projects.

Which doesn't defeat my point. Does EUIV really need Johan running it now? Will it need Johan in 6 months? Highly doubtful.

Johan has always been the lead designer for EU4, I don't see why he would leave that position.

In my opinion, the era of Wiz changed EUIV from a disappointment into a great entry in the franchise. I just don't really think EUIV is in a state that needs to be coddled. Johan could just as easily turn project lead over to someone else, again, and continue to be lead designer for EUIV. In fact, EUIV has made some interesting improvements to PDS's portfolio. It could allow Johan to transplant some of these ideas to a new game.

I wear more than one hat at my job. I'm sure Johan can do the same.

Wiz has always shown enthusiasm for Vicky, not sure if he has ever mentioned Rome before.
He did create the most successfull EU:Rome mod, a mod that in my opinion actually managed to make EU:Rome a pretty good game.

He also made a democratic let's play on the something awful forum, wherein he played crete, and made use of the games mechanics to great effect.
I would say that he is pretty qualified.
