I just had a game crash upon autosave, similar to crashes I've seen in 1.03. I am running 1.04a, and the notes seemed to indicate these were taken care of.

I have the save file if you want to take a look at it. It's around 56kb in size, if that's any indication of the problem. It doesn't have any odd data in it (like strings of random characters), though. It just seems to stop at the Duchy of Pisa title for no reason.

Yes, it was a game started under 1.04a.


It happened again last night. I noticed that in both cases, the actual ending of the save game file information was right after province ownership information had been recorded. And it crashed right at 57kb this time.

If it makes any difference, I did do some minor editting of dynasties.txt recently, but all I did was edit names and provinces (i.e. I put my family name in place of one of the ones that came with the game and changed the provinces it would randomly appear in.) Other than that, I have no mods on my version of the game.
 
You modded province ownerships and got a crash that seems to be related to province ownerships, are you sure they aren't related? Would it be too much of a bourden to try re-installing the patch?

I didn't patch the game with the mod. I modified dynasties.txt after the installation of the patch. I can just put the original copy of dynasties.txt back in the folder.

Still, I find it a bit odd that changing provinces for surnames would affect save game files, but hey, its a comptuer game. Anything could happen. :)
 
I replaced dynasties.txt and started a new game. The crash happened once more.

Once again, the save game only came out to 50kb. This time, however, I got some kind of virtual call error. RV4025 or something.

Also, once again, the last thing in the save game file was the province { } line.
 
I've had a couple CTD-during-autosaves under 1.04a too (new games). I did not think to try to open up the autosave files and look at them, but they would not reload. (the "oldautosave" files would not load either.) And my copy is completely unmodified.
 
Two CTDs on autosave here - playing an unmodified 1066 scénario, not events mod beyond removing the mongolevent.txt line (I know, i'm a coward) and setting the ID counter to prevent the (datatring mismatch' crash, 1.04a patch.

Happened once with a duchy of Apulia turned into a Naples/Aragon kingdom, other with Sweden kingdom.
