Good afternoon everyone...even though it isn't the afternoon. However, we aren't here to debate if weather it is the afternoon or night. We are here to read, comment and enjoy my first ever narrative AAR. I haven't done narrative's before so please bear with me, I may have a tendency to describe locations or things a bit too much. A good thing about this is that I'm not like Dan Brown and actually spends an entire chapter describing the insides of a building. So without further ado, I give you...A New Way of War.

Das Prologue

Date Unknown, Month Unknown, Year 2019

The room was dimly lit for it had no windows. It was adorned with a simple white wall color and covered in a thin layer of carpet, typical that of a hotel floor. There was one door leading in, and that same door leading out. The Room didn’t have much of a companion, just two old, oak chairs carved in the 19th century fashion an older wooden table situated in between the two and a chandelier made in the French style during Napoleon’s reign. The Room considered for a moment, wondering if its mere existence would play an important role; if it would know life other than in the confines of the four walls. But it quickly gave up as the sound of footsteps approached was heard coming from the outside. Excitement was what the Room felt as rarely anyone entered the hallway leading to its location. Waiting a little more, it felt the handle on the old oak door turn and in came three men…

Of the three that came in, two were slightly overweight, and balding. The former was wearing a fine suit, the ones worn by business men with matching leather shoes and an antique Bowler hat. He was fair skinned, had a small beard growing around his face, a smile that revealed two gold teethes and dark blue eyes. The latter sported a simpler blue t-shirt with a pair of blue jeans. Opposite of the former, this man was darker skinned, had grown a full beard, some would call it bushy and had brown, simpler eyes.

The two larger males sat on the available chairs while the last man stood near the door. This man was the complete opposite of both men as he was fit, had striking blue eyes, wore a formal military uniform bearing a crown with crossed swords a little lower of it and double maple leaves on his shoulder and a military issued peaked cap. The color of his uniform, a brownish green showed that he was part of the army. The only similarity was that he too was fair skinned.

The dark skinned man was the one who broke the silence. “There are a lot of possibilities with this; however, we will need sufficient financing if we are to carry this out.” His words directed towards his counterpart sitting a short distance in front of him.

“And you expect me,” replied Bowler man while pointing to himself “to help you with this ‘project’ ?” pointing at him.

“Yes,” replied the darker man, showing a slight hint of a Arabic accent. “What we discovered isn’t known to a lot of people. Hell outside of the three of us in this room, there are only 6 other people that know about this. Now if you accept this agreement, the ‘project’ will begin as soon as possible.”

Questioning a little further, Bowler man said. “Do you have an estimated price cost?”

“A little of a billion dollars.” Replied this counterpart.

If there was any stress or shock after hearing the cost, Bowler man didn’t show it. He just remained calm and attentive. Nodding, Bowler man asked, “And what is his job?” pointing to the General.

“My job is to determine which of the candidates would be most suitable for ‘advancement’ into this project. It’s going to take some time; there are over 105 possible candidates in the Imperial College.” Replied the General.

Bowler man replied, “But, from what I read of the file, it’s already been 2 years. Isn’t there anyone there that ‘pops up’ ?”

Hesitating, the General turned to his head to face the Arabian. Both their eyes met and there was a slight nod of approval. The General returned his stare towards Bowler man and said. “There is…one cadet. He excelled in all of the training, both mental and physical. As well, he understood how the Russian were able to incorporate Belarus into their Federation and how Saddam’s forces could have possibly held out a little longer, inflicting more damage to the coalition forces during their second invasion. Another thing, you remember the incident in Africa where the Republic of Congo was invaded by the other Congo?”

Bowler man replied, albeit a little more conservative. “Yes, I remember that. One of the UN’s peacekeeping force’s finest moment.”

“How they were able to succeed was a result of this cadet’s strategy.” Replied the General.

“What is his name?” replied the Bowler man with a hint of interest.

“His name is Eric Sonne.”

let me guess. Time travel?

A mix of that and something else ;)

I'll try to aim for an update every week but its my first time writing a narrative and i'd rather quality over quantity.

Eric Sonne

Date 17, Month October, Year 2019

The blasting of loud music wasn’t the reason he started to stir. No, he was ‘awake’ a long time before that, but the sounds emanating from the hallway and into his room sent his mind into a state of ‘awakeness’. Slowly, he pulled off the covers from his body and sat on his oak bed, studying his room. There wasn’t much, four walls, two doors; one connecting his room to his small closet and the other to the outside world, the bed that he’s on, the small drawer beside his bed that consisted of an early 21st century alarm clock and a solar lamp that mostly sat dormant during the day and to complete his room, a bookshelf that had a multitude of paperback and hardcover books ranging from Sun Tzu’s Art of War to A Military History of Canada and even PC for Dummies. Why do I still have that book? Though Eric.

Nearly all of his friends embraced a more modern way of life. Their paper books replaced with a handheld with downloaded E-Books. All his friends kept asking if he’d ever change; if he’d get a computer to ‘hold’ his books. Eric rejected his idea. “It feels more right. Call me traditional but I rather the touch and the new-book smell than using a computer.” Still there were some drawbacks; can’t easily find what you’re looking for as such.

By the time he got dress in his Imperial Cadet Uniform; simply a green-brownish overall that had his last name on the right side and headed for the door, the handle turned and in came another cadet dressed in the same attire as Eric. The stranger was however, shorter by a couple inches and paler. Like that vampire in that movie but without the sparkles, thought Eric the first time he met him.

“Ah, herr Kommandant! I see that you’re awake! I’d thought my music would have woken you up but when you still hadn’t appeared, I decided to check on you.” Said Jason Patvich, one of his closer friends…No ‘best’ friends…none at all. Suppressing this negative thought, Eric replied “No, I heard it loud and clear but I chose to ignore it.”

Smiling, Jason replied “We should go. Professor Heydrich’s gonna be annoyed that cadets are arriving late for his lecture on the Siege of Leningrad.” Many a times Eric and his circle of friends conversed with one another privately if the Professor was related to Reinhard Heydrich, the SS-Obergruppenfuehrer during the Third Reich period of Germany.

Hearing the subject of the lecture, Eric gave a mental sigh. He already knew everything there is to know about that event but still, these lectures were necessary in becoming an Officer of the Imperial Canadian Army. So, bracing him for a boring 3-5 hour speech, Jason and Eric began to walk towards Lecture Hall C.

------

Upon arriving at the entrance to the lecture hall, Jason went past the door first as the space only allowed for one person at a time. When Jason crossed the door, Eric started to walk when he was stopped by a taller, man wearing a green-ish coverall. Instinctively, he realized that it was a military personnel that was blocking his way. When he looked up to see who he was, Eric noticed the due maple leaves and again, he instinctively saluted.

“Cadet Sonne, sir!” said Eric in a strong voice.

The General replied. “Stand down Cadet.” Eric loosen his body a little. “As of right now, you have been transferred to the Advance Strategies and Tactics course. Please follow me.”

Eric was speechless as was the other cadets around him. AST’s was a course that every cadet dreamed of entering; even Eric gave it some thought before. The General began to walk down the direction he was facing as Eric started to run after him.

“Sir!” shouted Eric. “Why was I chosen?”

The General replied without looking or stopping. “The Crete Campaign.”

Time travel from the Future timeline in which Germany won the war?

No...not really. Simply it's like OTL but with a few changes here and there that don't really affect the overall situation of the world.

Also, I'd like to thank you cause of your replies towards my updates :D

Well that all depends on what are you going to do to Mother Russia. That first image doesn't fill me with confidence.

If all goes according to plan, and if I do finish this AAR, that should be what happens in the end.

Advance Strategies and Tactics

Date 17, Month October, Year 2019

The room that was used for Advance Strategies and Tactics course was extremely spartan. Simply put, it was a room painted in black and was lit by a number of lights on the roof. The other item in the room is the centrepiece, a rectangular block of something hard. It had no wires that Eric could see visually; the sides were all smooth and the face of the slab like a hockey table with borders around a glass-ish cover.

Eric spoke what was on his mind. “Um…sir…this is kinda…”

“Not what you were expecting of ?” finished the General.

“Simply put sir, yes.” replied Eric.

“Oh, I believe you will find it a little more interesting.” Said the General with a slightly smirk on his face. “Computer, start program SonneCrete.” The General spoke in a loud voice. Then an electronic voice replied. “Affirmative.”

The lights started to dim till they were off. While the room was covered in blackness, light began to emit from the slab until…BAM! A flash of light shot through the slab and an image was floating around the slab, rotating slowly left to right. At first, Eric was speechless as to what it was until…”It’s a hologram isn’t it?” questioned Eric. “It is isn’t it! I’ve read about them but I never thought they were completed this early!”

“Oh its completed alright, but its currently kept from the public. There are three others like this. Including the one here, there’s one in Germany and another in the Kremlin of the Russian Federation” replied the General.

map-crete.jpg

The hologram showed an image centered on the island of Crete

Still a little taken back, Eric said, point towards the holographic image. “That’s…that’s a projection of Crete isn’t it?”

“You are correct,” replied the General “Eric, you know how in your studies, you used 2D software or the traditional pen and paper? Well, using this holographic projector, we imputed your strategies and a map of Crete into the computer for you to implement those plans.”

“Y-y-you mean I can command them?” said a shocked Eric.

“Yep. The computer display’s it as a simulator. However, the major difference you’ll see is that it’s in 3DRD. Three Dimensional; Real Definition. And also it’s Real-Time. Go on, try it out, it uses touch command though it has voice commands as well, they’re a little glitchy at the moment.” said the General.

Eric approached it and immediately interfaced with the hologram. Eric found it was like using an Itouch 5, very much like it thought Eric. In a swift motion, he selected the Order of Battle for his simulation and discovered that the divisions under his control were mostly German Fallschirmjager and Gebirgs or Mountain troops. They would be important in the up-coming invasion. Highlighting the Aerial OOB, Eric sees that he has both He-111 bombers and Me type fighters while over in the Naval OOB, he had Italian ships, including a fleet consisting of 3 Destroyers 2 Light Cruisers and a single Battlecrusier.

Playing around with more of the functions, Eric discovered a zoom option. He decided to zoom in near Athens. When he reached the city, he zoomed in even more onto a small anti-aircraft battery manned by four German soldiers. In German, one of the soldiers said. “Hans, make me some coffee.” The one called Hans replied, “What am I? Your fucking mutter?” to which was responded with a round of small laughs.

“They’re speaking German, but I can hear them in English…albeit with a slight accent.” said Eric

Responding to the question, the General answered. “That is because the computer is translating what they side in real-time.” Pointing towards the hologram, he continued. “There is a world in there, albeit virtual but nonetheless in an environment that is identical to the Second World War.”

Nodding his head, Eric asked one more question.

“Sir, what is your name if you don’t mine me asking?” said Eric

“Graff. Lt.General Graff.”

XI. Fliegerkorps

crete3c.png

XI. Fliegerkorps and the divisions assigned

XI. Fliegerkorps, also known as the 11th Flying/Air Corps was created in January of 1941 to house the expanding German Fallschirmjager or paratrooper force. The Corp’s first commander was the famous Generalleutnant Kurt Student, a veteran fighter pilot of the First World War and overall commander of the Fallschirmjager. XI. Fliegerkorps, stationed in Athens for the upcoming airborne invasion of Crete.

Like all Fallschirmjager divisions, the soldiers of the 11th Corp followed the Ten Commandments.

Ten Commandments

1. You are the elite of the German Army. For you, combat shall be fulfillment. You shall seek it out and train yourself to stand any test.
2. Cultivate true comradeship, for together with your comrades you will triumph or die.
3. Be shy of speech and incorruptible. Men act, women chatter; chatter will bring you to the grave.
4. Calm and caution, vigor and determination, valour and a fanatical offensive spirit will make you superior in attack.
5. In facing the foe, ammunition is the most precious thing. He who shoots uselessly, merely to reassure himself, is a man without guts. He is a weakling and does not deserve the title of paratrooper.
6. Never surrender. Your honour lies in Victory or Death.
7. Only with good weapons can you have success. So look after them on the principle — First my weapons, then myself.
8. You must grasp the full meaning of an operation so that, should your leader fall by the way, you can carry it out with coolness and caution.
9. Fight chivalrously against an honest foe; armed irregulars deserve no quarter.
10. Keep your eyes wide open. Tune yourself to the top most pitch. Be nimble as a greyhound, as tough as leather, as hard as Krupp steel and so you shall be the German warrior incarnate.

XI. Fliegerkorps was made up of two Fallschirmjager divisions, the 7th Flieger Division and the 22nd Luftlande Division. The 7th was the first paratrooper divisions raised before the starting of the war. Though it wasn’t fully strength until the Invasion of Crete, regiments of the 7th played important parts during the invasions of Poland, Denmark, France and Greece. The 22nd on the other land was originally raised as an infantry division called the 22. Infanterie-Division until they were retrained as the 22.Luftlande-Infanterie-Division.

Eh...maybe they just saw the title picture or they saw that it's a narrative and were turned away.

Thanks for trying though. :)

5th Mountain Division

crete4.png

The 5th Mountain Division, also nicknamed the Gamsbock-Division or the Sumpfjäger-Division

The German 5th Mountain Division or 5. Gebirgs Division was first born in the Austrian part of Tirol in October of 1940. The division was formed from a mixture of regiments taken from both the 1. Gebrigs-Division and the 10. Infanterie Division. The 5th would see their first action in the 1941 Balkans Campaign when the Axis alliance invaded the Kingdom of Yugoslavia then later in Greece and would also be involved in the invasion of Crete.

The commander of the 5th Mountian Division was Generalmajor Julius Ringel, born an Austrian. Ringel was able to secure this commission because of the fact that he was a strong supporter of the Anschluss in 1938. He would prove to be an exceptional leader, easily commanding his mountaineers to victory even if their supply lines were weaken or simply wiped out.
