Quite a lot of dynasty switching there.
So Skåne will become Swedish 500 years earlier?

he he... Well, there will probably be some more dynasty switching so... :p Perhaps it will be Danish again... Or perhaps something else!! ;)

Nubian...? :eek:o

But seriously, folks, I've forgotten what the original intent of this AAR was. ;) The original family-based storyline of most AAR's has been broken, and a new method is born.

The intent is to show tha tmad people deserve to rule the world, the madder the better. Cause they have more fun.

It is a pity you couldn't have merge the two families, then your stats would have been constantly 0's. :D

Part 3
Chapter IV. –Long way Home

After the appointment of the new count Brynjolf, there seemed to have fallen a certain “stability” over Skåne. There were not so many worries, and not so many troubles.
Scandinavia was at this time divided under many nationalities…

A40.jpg

Count Brynjolf therefore meant, that it would be smartest to get some good connections with the other rulers. At least, it wouldn’t do any harm!
So he asked for the English Count Martin de Boves’ daughter Catherine’s hand, which Brynjolf both found attractive and intelligent. (The girl that is, and not the hand!)
Now, Catherine was a bit wild. In modern times, we would have calling her a feminist… She was that type of girl, who fought for the sake of women, and was not afraid at all to stand up and argue with a man.
Count Martin had gotten a little tired of her, and Brynjolf was a fine suitor. He accepted and Catherine was married to Brynjolf early in 1140.

A41.jpg

Count Brynjolf was a strictly man.
He didn’t like lazy or stupid people, and rejected to use money on musicians and artists, as he saw it waste of time and money. Instead he used the money on the rebuilding of Skåne.

The new Countess Catherine already began to change personality, just months after her marriage. She forgot her sake of the women, and instead focused more on herself and her looks.
Catherine and Brynjolf managed to get two daughters, before he was called to war…
His liege, King Sven of Sweden had attacked Denmark and gathered all his counts, dukes and stormænd in 1142.
Brynjolf took his army, together with some older commanders and his brother Johan, and joined in under the Swedish banner. He then gave the temporary control of Skåne, to his younger brother Inge.
Now, the people in Skåne didn’t heard much about the war. It took long time to bring news, and at the time they arrived, they were already old news.

In 1145 however, Count Brynjolf and his remaining men, rode through a Danish forest after a minor battle in Meclemburg. They were ordered to secure the eastern borders, while the main Swedish force reorganized.
At this time, much had already happened.
King Sven was dead, and a small boy named Halsten was crowned afterwards. But also the Danish King Østmar was dead. Instead, a strong warrior called Magnus had been crowned in Denmark.
In Norway, things stayed the same, if somebody is interested… There, King Torkjell still ruled, 55 years old.
Anyhow, also Brynjolfs brother Johan had been killed, alongside with many other Skånings.
It was with a sad mood, which the remaining group of soldiers rode on the narrow road in the forest.
Suddenly, the forest became alive…
From all sides, Danish loyalists attacked. They were not even well armoured or equipped, but they fought for a good case and were deadly, as they fired their arrows at the Swedish force.
Brynjolf saw 4 of his good men fall, before he finally drew his own sword. It happened with such great speed and precision. The Swedes were confused.
The sound of whistling arrows and screaming men and horses could be heard from every angle.
Brynjolf tossed his helm away. He could not orientate with it on.
A little too late, he noticed a camouflaged Danish soldier, running straight at his horse with a raised spear. Before Brynjolf could do anything, his horse felt and Brynjolf himself was knocked out on the hard ground.

When he woke up again, he was covered in blood. Luckily, not his own.
The silence was frightening. He got up and tried to get an overview of the situation. Then voices became clearer, and he could see soldiers walking around among the fallen ones.
It was his own men!

After their quick raid, the Danes had escaped again, as fast as they had arrived.
Now, the Swedish soldiers looked for wounded comrades and valuable goods. Brynjolf called his men together. He had gotten enough of 3 years with fighting.
He changed the course, and headed for the coast. He was certain that because he had survived, it meant that he should return home now. He was glad for that. He had missed his wife and their two daughters.
Because of the losses, it was easier to find a ship, willing to sail them home to Skåne. There were not many men, and the war-goods could pay off good.
As Brynjolf looked over the side of the ship, he noticed the red sun and the high waves. It looked like it would be storming…

A42.jpg

The news arrived to Skåne in the late autumn.
Brynjolf and the remaining soldiers had drowned on their way back home.
Inge was then following crowned Count of Skåne. He was a bit different from Brynjolf and Johan, as he always had solved the problems without the use of violence. He had then evolved to be a person who said what he meant and in the meantime avoid further trouble. He became arrogant, and lazy. Always avoided problems with a short conversation.
Some found him wise, some thought he was a bit of a snake…

Let's see how Inge gets on, with his 13 diplomacy!

Hell no, its crusade against the Anglos time. Get them outta Scandanavia! And Poland too.

Oh yeah, them too, and the Poles.

Part 3
Chapter V. –Long time, no Siege

In 1146, King Halsten of Sweden finally signed a peace treaty with the Danish King. Sweden had won the war, and gained some more land.
Now when the war was over, it was important to gain some connections, so that the peace could continue. Inge sailed to Denmark and visited the king. But King Halsten of Sweden had sent King Magnus to exile, and instead, Halsten had crowned his Italian friend Bruto di Parma, who he had fought alongside with against the Danes.
But then Inge meet Agnes Knýtling, who had been married to both the old counts Sigar and Loter. She introduced Inge to her niece Elisabeth, who this far only had worked in King Magnus’ treasury.
They fell in love, and a couple of months after, Inge returned home with his new wife.

A44.jpg

Elisabeth told Inge a lie about how her brothers and her sister was being thrown out of Denmark, and now had no place to stay. The actual truth was, that they were afraid of losing power, and wanted a place in Inge’s court.
Inge could not say no, and welcomed them to his court. He even appointed Elisabeth’s eldest brother Bjørn to Marshall.

Elisabeth had only lived in Skåne a month, before she came up with many new ideas and improvements. The underground of Skåne should be used to mining, and the products from it, should be used to make other products.
It didn’t take long before the industry in Skåne flourished again. The prosperity was rising again, and many came in work.

It could have been really wonderful, if that’s how the rest of the World was too. But wars and crusades had splintered Europe. Especially the Kings of England had used their time on battles and conquering.
It lead to a meeting in Germany, where all of Europe’s Kings and Dukes had gathered to discuss the situation. The Muslim Hordes had raided their way through Europe and now stood as a threat, to the rest of the Christian World. Somebody had to be blamed… And it became the King of England…
Currently, the boy Jordan sat on the throne. In many years he had constantly sent warriors to go on crusading, and forgot his own borders. The result was that the Muslims actually invaded England, so that Jordan had to flee to his lands in Sweden.
Now, The Scandinavian Kings and Dukes were not thrilled to have other Nations so close to their own homes. But if the Muslims now also could attack into Scandinavia, something was wrong!
Therefore, King Jordan of England had to be stopped. It was in self-defence, that the other Christian Kings declared him war…

A45.jpg

Also Count Inge had to send troops and materiel.
All his life, he had tried not be violent, and end up in conflicts. And when he became Count after his brother Brynjolf, he was certain that he could govern Skåne without making the same mistakes as him. He wanted to rule in peaceful and happy times, but it seemed his “big” dream, was ruined.
Inge became depressed and turned his attention to his own family.
That made the people in Skåne really nervous. Their own Count had turned his back at them and given up, the Stormænd had gathered the young men and marched to war, and knew what to come next… The biggest fear of all was that Inge would become crazy!

Nice update.
May I just ask: Which colours are the muslims on the second picture? Yellow and Blue?

If you mean in Britain, then yes...
Also most of "modern" France is Muslim, as well as a few enclaves in Eastern Europe.

"Fæ dør, Frænde dør
Selv dør vi til sidst
Men et ved jeg som aldrig dør
Mindet om død mands dåd"

Love that vers. However ljodahattur in which havamal is written always consists of 6 lines. Im not a fluent danish speaker ;) but in swedish the vers goes like this.

"Fä dör
fränder dö,
även själv skiljes du hädan,
men ett vet jag
som aldrig dör,
domen över död man."

EDIT; english

"Cattle die
kinsmen die,
thyself too shall die,
but one thing i know
that never dies,
the doom over the dead."

My favorit is number 16

"Ovis man
tror sig alltid skola leva.
om för vapenskifte han sig vaktar
men ålderdomen giver
honom ingen frid,
fast honom spjuten spara"

EDIT, english

"A coward
believes he will ever live
if he keep away from strife:
but old age leaves
him no peace
though spears may spare him."

edit

for you english speaker these verses and many many more beutiful ones can be found in "The Poetic Edda" it contains many stories and verses from the old scandinavians

I know... But if you read my Danish version, you'll see that I have just put together the verses to spare place... (I got a Private Message from an Administrator to shorten my signature, so that's why! ;))
I know there is many versions and in many langueges, but I just took one of those I like! Corectly it would look like this...

"Fæ dør
Frænde dør
Selv dør vi til sidst
Men et ved jeg
Som aldrig dør

Wait, so because the King of England is losing against Muslims, the Christian rulers declared war on HIM? Wow, life stinks. :(

Can't believe how much Islam has conquered, though. Man, look at that. France is no more.

infendi, soon our camels will shallow the christian menace for good. Praise allah, they only thing that can stop us is Skane. Now if only we knew where it was!

Good update, hope Inge doesn't go crazy

Part 3
Chapter VI. –Bad Luck

Though it was a severe depression that had inflicted the mind of Count Inge, he managed, with the help of his wife Elisabeth, to regain his sense and spirit.
He had realised that there would not be a World, without war. Where there were humans, there were problems.
He gathered some men and marched to war…
And during the war, Count Inge won many battles and fought with a heroic strength and courage.
And when there was a break in the battles, he didn’t do as his men and sought female company. Instead, he sent messages home to tell his wife Elisabeth that he missed and loved her. He wandered around for himself and thought of his home. His family.
He had finally found happiness… To fight for his King, and then return home to his home and family. This was what life was about…

A47.jpg

In 1151 Inge returned home, after the last English defenders in Kalmar Län had been defeated.
But he wasn’t meet by his wife…
Instead, a servant welcomed him home, with the news of Elisabeth’s death, only 23 years old.
Inge was crushed…
He never returned to the front, and he never loved any women again. He felt his life was over and that he stood all alone. But he didn’t. Elisabeth had granted him 3 healthy sons. Eskild, Sigurd and Eyvind. This was all he had left to remind him of his wife, and he became from that day on, a family-father, who gave time to his sons.

From that day, it also seemed that a certain “bad luck” had hit Scandinavia.
Norway had a civil war, after their King Einar I, had been excommunicated. And in the meantime, they also fought the Irish and the Scottish Kings.
Denmark was still furious over their Italian King, who granted more and more Italian nobles lands and titles. It could also end up in a civil war.
Sweden had had much success in their war against England. But then Arabian reinforcements arrived to support the English King Jordan, who now crushed the Swedes and took their land, bite by bite…

Early in 1153, Inge sat by his dining table and ate with his sons.
Suddenly, he chocked in a piece of meat. The sons stared at their father, which face quickly changed colour. He tried to talk, but couldn’t.
His eyes were filled with tears as he felt down the chair.
And for a last time he tried to get up. He slowly sank down on the floor again, and closed his eyes.
Count Inge died 45 years old, and left Skåne to his 3 little sons.
