I don't know if somebody thought it, but the alliance system of HoI2 make very much trubles for the cold war. In the cold war, there where very much small crisis, where the 2 superpowers fight in a limited area (Vietnam, Korea,....), but this is solvable by giving only extern support to a small nation in the war. But for other crisis (Falklands war, libyan crisis, southafrica vs Angola....) We could have total irrealistic results, as the entire Nato against Argentina, the entire arab league against the Nato (indeed of USA vs Libya) etc.... and if we let do all to the AI, USA will annex Vietnam with the support of the Nato and Russia will stay to see.... and the same thing will happen to libya, and for UK and Argentina...
How could we solve it?

We have, of course already thought it out. Whenever such a war starts, all NATO members will be asked weather or not to participate - Global players such as UK and France will have a higher chance to do so then minor players like Belgium or denmark.

besides, if anyone annexes Vietnam, it will be south vietnam, no?

gamespeed can be handled by using Ctrl +/- , you can get from early 1936 to mid 1939 in approx. one hour - if you slow down to pick your research and divsion deployments.

research speed isn't decided on yet, But I guess it will be longer - during the Cold War, a new plane usually took 10 (later 20) years of development, but since this would be boring in CW, we might simply cut that at 2-5 years of development, to simulate troop testing.

Blueprints buy won't be that large of an issue as the NATO forces will share blueprints anyway (alliance), same with the warsaw pact and arabic alliance. Any other selling of equipment/licenses can probably handled by events.

it would be best for the battle scenarios, however the main campaign is all about altering history - would the vietnam war have happened the way it did when the US were communist (very unlikely)? So the main powers should always be able to interfere - after all, there is a possibility that the UK or France intervene in the Vietnam conflict, or the US /USSR in Suez etc. Its these decisions that make the game fun, it shouldn't say "No, germany didn't participate in Vietnam, so it should not do so now", when it was theoretically possible (if very unlikely). therefore, the intervene/don't intervene question should be there for every country.

sounds good. I suggest you head over to the event discussion thread and start hammering out the details. Don't worry about coding, we have our monkeys to do that...
