Would those be obtainable when game build changes like using mods, or not?
Currently I know that those will become locked when used console command once in the run.
But what about mods?

I have to admit that i barely payed attention on this topic since i assumed its obvious that mods can change the game so drastically that achivments should not be obtainable (there will be, for sure, mod that unlocks all achievements after game start and this will devaluate them entirely), but some recent topics made me wonder...

I'll add that some mods don't change the checksum. To my knowledge it's those that add portraits, but I think the devs have expanded it some as well. so maybe more. its mostly supposed to be things that will not impact game balance.

Yeah, I have a couple that add colours and symbols to the flag designer

It would be nice if shipset / city art / portraits / namelists / etc. didn't affect the checksum.

Or if mods in general didn't disable achievements.

this could be cool, but some of those things are kept in the same folder as things that do need to change checksum. Portraits for sure, and very maybe name lists are fine. Don't know about the rest.

Mod that unlocks all alchievements at the game start would make them totally irrelevant.
Right now game allow for cheating to get achivs easier, and this is fine - its about playing special way or doing special tasks - not getting hard or easy ones.
But getting all of them by just installing a mod rises a question - why they even exists?

I've never seen a mod like that.

Is that kind of mod for games where the achievements unlock new mechanics or features so you need the unlock to get a full-featured game?

There would be no point for that kind of mod in Stellaris.

I've seen that kind of mod on multiple games, and none of them have significant amounts of people who actually have all achievements.

Its essentially a fake problem. It sounds relatively reasonable, but doesn't actually happen with enough prevalence to even notice, and even if it DID, it wouldn't make any difference unless the sole value of achievements is that other people don't have them.

Personally, I'm fine with mods or no mods, mainly because I don't usually play with mods so I don't really have a horse in the race. I would like achievements to be available in multiplayer, however.

I sometimes play with mods, and know that some of them might unlocked achives while vanilla game shouldn't allow for this.
But yeah, achives should be available in MP. Maybe with some exceptions.

Anyone who desperately wants those achievements without putting in the work can already just use Steam Achievement Manager to unlock them with just a few clicks, so I don't think it makes any sense to evaluate Steam Achievements from a "competitive" angle. Unlocker Mods pretty much fall into the same category, just with a different flavor.

To me the question is whether being able to get achievements while using mods would make the personal experience better or worse, and I think that decision can essentially go both ways. On the one hand, it's nice to be able to hunt achievements in a slightly modded environment. On the other hand, the process of gaining achievements tends to become very random in a heavily modded playthrough because many of the assumptions that were made for the unlock process simply don't hold true anymore, which in return might take out some of the fun of hunting them.

I would like it if achievements could be enabled or disabled in the modset.

There are some checksum altering mods which I would prefer to get achievements when using, specifically bugfix mods.

But there are also some total overhaul mods where vanilla achievements don't make sense.
