Hello! Me and my friend have been working on a mod that completely swaps out the map of the game, that is heightmap, states, provinces etc.

We have however run into a problem which is crashing, currently it is playable though it crashes whenever you open the market menu or hover over certain countries in the market mapmode, I have not been able to find any pattern to the crashes other than that it crashes only when hovering over some countries or putting the mouse over certain market boxes on the market map mode. We did try looking in the crash logs, but sadly we could not find anything of use as there seem to be no reports of the actual cause of the crash, and the exception doesn't say much either.

The files we have altered are strategic_regions. History files for countries, states and pops. State_regions, defualt, province_terrains in map_data. We altered many other files too in the same directories, but the list would probably make this post bloated, I can add more details if there is something that I may have been unclear about or missed.

So, we tested on a few different worlds.
  • We have made tests on a smaller world with only 5 or so land states, and that was completely playable for a whole campaign, so we know that at some level it works.
  • Some which were completely generated (every state independent or big blob nations) on full scaled map (54765 provinces, 1062 land states, 62 land regions), were pressing the market menu would only crash after a few days have passed.
  • And one (also full scale map) which we had some custom nations made by us and filled the rest in with a filler nation, were it crashed instantly when pressing market menu.
In all these tests, every state was owned and populated.

At the moment we feel that it is futile to make any more additions to the mod as we seem unable to solve this problem. My hope is that some of you may have encountered this problem before and managed solve it, otherwise I'm happy to share ideas!

Just some questions to help trouble shoot

How are trade routes set up (a notorious crasher of Imperator Rome)?
How are the production buildings set up (are there invallid production buildings anywhere?)
How are the building history files set up (any invalid buildings/production methods anywhere?)
How are state traits set up (any new ones)?
How are the nodes and edges set up (not a like source of crashes, but good to know)?
How are strategic regions set up and are there any invalid declared interests?

Alternatively you could systemically add and remove states to see where the problem emerges. A time intensive procedure, but a good way or narrowing down the crash options.
 
Hi, sorry for the late response!
We did manage to solve our problem eventually, the problem appears to be either lakes being ocean, or more likley the fact that we had forgotten to remove vanilla strategic regions, which I was sure we had done but apparantly not lol.
Anyways, thanks for your help, I probably wouldn't have checked strategic regions so soon if not for you suggesting it, thanks!
