In my nice AAR I've used the help of Steel panthers - world at war
game to play out some of the tactical battles between the soviets and the americans. It is probably as authentic as you can get on the ww2 tactical level (company-battallion sized battles).

The game itself is good also .. and its free, but the download is a bit heavy.. over 350mb iirc.

Still its worth it and if you are into writing about those smallscale battles in your AAR it will be a lot of help.

You can get it here.. if you want it

I haven't used it myself in this fashion, but It's a GREAT game. The version were talking about here is Steel Panthers World at War, which is a volounteer upgrade of Steel Panthers 2.

They have now reached version 7.1 and its incredibly, VASTLY better than the original games. Its one of the games I keep returning to, again and again. The AI is nothing to write howme about - adequate for representing early-war Red Army only, but the detailed vehicle models, the sream of artillery... its all there! From Flamethrowers to Nebelwerfers, for your destructive pleasure.
