Just played through "A Walk in the Sun". Wow! Quite possibly the greatest wargame of all time. The only thing missing is the smell of cordite. One question though. Gen. King directed my brigade toward a farmhouse to the south and west. after the aborted attack on the rebel batteries. There seemed no way to disengage and reach the farm before the traitors were upon my command, so I ordered my regiments into line behind the rail fence above the creek. Gen. Doubleday assures me that my right is secured, unfortunately, he is on my left ! Is this intentional?

Poor old Doubleday. He is easily confused. He means the right of the position you have been ordered to. The courier messages are scripted, and this one expects you to be hot footing it over to the Brawner farm.

I saw the objective star floating to the south, but I didn't think they were serious.

BTW, were those Fire Zouaves on my right? Man, you've got to love a game with Fire Zouaves!

Yes. They were indeed the Zouaves. The objective markers are important. Half the fun of the game is trying to fulfill your commander's orders.

This is a really fun scenario and if you followed the orders exactly you'd be in the woods and only have to change direction to get over to the farm. I also did the same thing as you the first time and held the position until my left flank crumbled. Having played this one several times if you go to the objective I can hold it all day and the right flank crumbles. Poor AI, always the brides maid.
