I arrived at the barracks today in Trier after being assigned to my first operational unit of infantry, things have not been as tense as I had envisioned them to be. With the reoccupation having happened only within the past few weeks I had expected tension but none exists here. I have high hopes for a return to greatness for the fatherland but who knows what the future may hold. Tomorrow begins my integration training to become better acquainted with my fellows in the unit, also my duties with helping to maintain the unit facilities begins tomorrow as well.

Word has come down from the officers that new weapons are to begin to arrive soon and training upon them is to commence immediately once they are issued. I believe I will soon be promoted as I am receiving praise nearly daily for my efforts to fulfill my duties and assist my fellows with their duties and discussing plans should the unthinkable happen. I will be writing home to mother and father in the next few days, I am certain they will be ecstatic to hear from me as they do not hear from me often enough due to my duties.

I have just arrived to my new unit a newly formed infantry division, 3. Infanterie-Division(Motorized) we are currently deployed near the Polish border to the North of Poznan. I was promoted to a non-commissioned officer just prior to receiving my orders to deploy to the East. I have already begun drilling my men and coaching them in preparation for conflict should it erupt though conflict seems unlikely at this time no one desires to fight another costly war like the last one.

It has been an interest two days German has unified with Austria in an Anschluss and made a strong alliance with Italy in the Pact of Steel. The Allied nations have made only minor verbal protests to these actions and I am encouraged that war can be avoided. I am still positioned along the Polish frontier but this could soon change as the population in The Sudetenland are growing restless and my division may be redeployed to the Czechoslovakian frontier.

1 March 1938

The Allied nations in an attempt to settle the unrest in Czechoslovakia promised that Czechoslovakia would cede The Sudetenland to Germany which was a shock to their government but there was little that they could do to stop it. Peace looks to have been secured but only the future may tell what will come, I have suspicions that this is not the end of the demands by the Fuhrer. I feel the nation is well prepared for war but it will not be easy and cost free, pray for all of the soldiers and other armed servicemen should war come.

News broke today that Japan had signed an Alliance with German, together with Italy the world trembles at out might and war seems more and more imminent. Unrest within Czechoslovakia grows at the government of that nation's inability to maintain it's confirmed borders with the allies abandonment in the Treaty of Munich. I have now been deployed along the Czechoslovakian frontier in preparation for action should it become necessary.

Big update here not really in size but in developments.

9 November 1938

The Fuhrer has announced that Czechoslovakia was the be invaded given the chaos that had erupted within that country after the Treaty of Munich. With the threat of invasion and the unrest as well as weak defensive positions the government decided to surrender to German might and allow the occupation of Bohemia and the creation of a Slovakian state.

4 January 1939

With the threat of invasion and annexation by the Communist horde in Russia the Lithuanian government agreed to German demands that the city of Memel and surrounding lands shall be ceded to the Reich.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10 August 1939

With Germany demanding Danzig and a corridor of land to ensure the defense of the city the Poles feeling abandoned by the Allied powers ceded the city and surrounding land to protect their people from a more devastating war. The Fuhrer has given all Polish citizens in the ceded territory three months to pack up their belongings and leave.

1 April 1941

We are at war with Poland the Fuhrer demanded additional German territory the Poles held and was refused, the war will be over quickly I am told.

31 May 1941

The Treaty of Torun was signed a few days ago ceding territory from Poland to Germany and stipulating a guarantee from Germany that should another nation aggress Poland they will come to her defense.

I have more to post but I'm just not feeling it right now.

8 January 1942

Two days ago the Soviet Union declared war upon Poland once again the nation is at war, now positioned on the East Prussian frontier with the Soviet republic of Lithuania we will begin moving forces across the border within a few hours. My division will be among the first to engage the enemy and we are confident that they will crumble before our might. I am unsure when I may be able to make another entry as things will be spartan for some time to come. The Allied nations of France and The United Kingdom have also declared war upon the Soviet Union for this aggression against the peaceful Poles.

2 March 1942

It has been an arduous several months our forces have repeatedly engaged the enemy and driven them back only to face a counter attack which is easily repulsed, the enemy commanders seem to value life so little that they just throw it away in suicide charges. Word has spread that several hours ago after their superior officers were killed by their own men a large Soviet army surrendered near the city of Jurmala. I do not know how many men or other pieces of equipment were captured but this gives me hope that this war can now be ended that much more quickly.

3 June 1942

There is much celebration within the unit after breaking through hastily erected defenses in a vane attempt to stop the Wehrmacht from crossing rivers in Latvia the Soviet defenders began a steady retreat from our mighty forces. Today we celebrate the liberation of St. Petersburg from the vile communist filth that were running the city, the local leaders and what regional or national leaders we were able to round up are set to be executed by firing squad shortly. It has been decided that what men remain of my company are to perform the executions themselves, I have also been notified that I am being promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and given command of the Battalion after the Battalion commander was killed by a lucky mortar round strike by the Soviet defenders of St. Petersburg.

3 September 1942

It has been three more long months of fierce fighting the Red Army are becoming better organized and resisting us more effectively but we are still regularly winning battles. I have been promoted to Colonel with a field commendation to make me a full fledged officer, we recently liberated the ancient city of Moscow and many important documents were seized from the Kremlin. The war has bogged down but it continues, victory is less certain but confidence is still high amongst the men that it will come it remains unknown just how soon the victory will come. In late august another large force of Soviet men surrendered in the Impilahti pocket when spectacularly planned and executed assaults broke the pockets defenses and allowed our allied forces to defeat them.

I am excited and nervous at the same time, tomorrow I along with my men and the rest of the division will be marching in a victory parade before the Fuhrer in Berlin. The victory parade is celebrating our profound victory over the Soviet Union and their total capitulation to whatever terms Germany saw fit to enforce upon them. The demands were clear, all party members were to turn themselves in to German authorities to be tried for crimes against the German people and their own people. The war lasted just over a year before this capitulation happened, the German people and nation will need this space to grow and prosper. In the mean time I received today two photographs from an Army and Luftwaffe photographer who are friends of each other and were photographing the same battle.
