Over the past few years the American public had grown increasingly displeased with their government. While the civilian population at home struggled to deal with the Great Depression, an under funded and ill-equipped military struggled against guerillas in the Philippines. Protests were springing up all over the country as unemployment rates skyrocketed while the government let young Americans die overseas from lack of support.

To top it all off the leaders of the military were furious with the government as well. America had next to no army, yet the civilian government had done nothing to stop the cascade of events that had drawn American into war with EVERYONE. Whether these events could have been stopped was immaterial, the fact was that America was at war and had only two army divisions, and one was in Manila. Most of the rifles they were using were from WWI; most of their rifling had worn away, resulting in inaccurate weapons that often misfired, much to the dismay of American soldiers in combat.

As Canadian and Mexican units advanced unopposed into US territory, Americans had had enough. On January 1st a ragtag bunch of Army, Navy and Air Force units, not even totaling a whole division, secured the Capital building and the White House. With the only other military unit trying to fend off the Canadians there was no one to oppose them.

Over the next few days the Congress was disbanded and sweeping new elections were called for to fill seats on the New Congress. Only a few members who had opposed the actions of the previous members were allowed to stay.

The President was arrested and charged with negligence of duty to country and people. He suffered most of the blame for disaster facing the American people.

In his place, the Joint Chiefs placed a person whom all branches trusted and respected. While he was not the highest rank, he was viewed as the best choice. General Exterous took over leadership of the country on January 2nd. Whether he was actually the best choice for the role had yet to be seen.

Exterous got right to work as foreign armies were advancing. Militia units were to be raised left and right. Consumer spending was to be increased to deal with the unhappy populace.

Someone only known to the history books as Greven greatly assisted Exterous in his early stages of planning and indeed throughout the war.

Later on the 2nd, Exterous made a country wide address over the radio. He called upon all Americans to rise up and defend their country. He stressed that while America was caught off guard, it would never happen again. Other countries, even American’s strongest allies, had proven they could not be trusted. He promised it was his solemn goal to rid the world of America’s enemies and would not rest until the Great American Empire was created and the world could be at peace. He also promised that regular congressional elections would take place as planned without interference from the military. Exterous would hold power during the duration of the crisis and only then would a presidential election be held.

And with that a new and reborn America geared up for war……

Interesting beginning (and congratulations on your "election" :p ) but why exactly were Canada and Mexico attacking the USA? Domination of North America?

Why? It's a World In Flames scenario. Everyone is at war with everone else. Or the larger countries are...

Oops sorry not familiar with the scenario :eek:o

With imminent treats from both Mexico and Canada and only one US division, decisions had to be made. It was decided that Canada was more of a threat and the single American division marched north to Buffalo to delay the Canadian advance into the US.

In the mean time, naval forces were marshaled and sent to Manila with the mission to retrieve half of the US army and bring them back to the states.

The US Pacific Fleet was sortied to protect supply lines to Manila and Hawaii. After the troops were picked up, the fleet would fall back to Hawaii and engage enemy fleets in the area for the indefinite future. In short, the US withdrew from the Pacific.

With no needs to protect overseas provinces in the Atlantic, the US Atlantic Fleet focused on the Caribbean. Relays were set up to deny the British and French supplies from their Caribbean holdings.

In Buffalo, US forces were engaged by a superior number of Canadian troops. After holding out for almost 10 days against 3:1 odds, the Americans were forced to retreat.

In the Pacific, the Japanese learned of the Americans plan to retreat from the Pacific. They sent several ships to interdict the supply lines to Hawaii and try to force the Americans back further to the West Coast. On January 26th this small raiding force met the Old Battlewagons of the Pacific fleet and suffered the loss of three cruisers. Only the USS Colorado suffered heavy damage and was subsequently sunk two days later when the Japanese returned, but at the cost of another three Japanese destroyers.

While the Canadians rampaged in New England and the Mexicans began their advance into the US, the American carrier fleets escorting the TPs were heavily engaged.

The Japanese tried to force a showdown off the coast of Guam, but they made a critical mistake. Benson maneuvered his fleet to draw off the Japanese escorts clearing the way for Fitch’s planes which quickly sunk both of the Japanese carriers before their fighters got off the decks. Over the next 15 days a series of engagements were fought with the Americans the decided victors. Most of the engagements faced Nagato against Benson althrough as number of smaller Japanese flotillas were involved. At the end of February, when the Americans left the waters off Guam, it was estimated the Japanese lost over 30 ships, including 2 CVs and 3 BBs. The Americans suffered five ships sunk and ahd been forced into Guam's port several times for emergency repairs and resupply but the transports were able to make their way, unmolested, to the mainland.
