This is my second attempt to write narrative aar. I hope you will like it. I started playing as Alexios Komnenos, Prince of Koppadokia and soon inherited Byzantine throne from deceased Konstaninos Doukas.

INTRODUCTION

Vaspourkan 3th April 1067 evening

’’Alp Arslan cavalry broke through the infantry at castle walls. His marksmen shoot down our archers off the walls. His infantry is well armoured with sharp swords and spears. Seljuk spears lighly pierce our shields and armors. Their swords are slashing through throats of our men! Van is lost!’’ – Prince Michael Doukas yelled at Alexios Komnenos.

Alexios looked up to Michael ’’They still haven’t met our Kataphraktoi.’’ and smiled.

’’How can you be so calm in a situation like this?’’ – Michael yelled again ’’We will most probably die from dirty Turk hand!’’

Alexios still had his look focused on Michael ’’No Michael. We are going to defend Van. Behind us is a lake of Van. Take women and children. Leave before Turks get into the castle. Now!’’

’’You are not my master to command me. I will fight! I am crown prince of Byzantium, Eastern and true Roman Empire. I will make empire prosper. Do you understand Alexios Komnenos?’’ – Michael attacked Alexios.

Alexios was holding sword in his hands, sword that Komnenids used to win many wars and battles, sword of Komnenoi.

Είμαι καταιγίδ σπαθί των Κομνηνών υπερασπιστής της αυτοκρατορίας
(I am Storm, sword of Komnenoi, defender of Empire)
It was written on the sword

’’My wife is pregnant..’’ – Alexios finally said.

Michael snorted and rushed out from keep.

--

More than fifthy thousand Turks were besieging castle of Van, led by Seljuk sultan Alp Arslan. Under his reign, Seljuks expand their borders, mostly towards west crushing Byzantine Empire. They have already conquered Armenia and most of Vaspurakan. Last stand of Byzantines of Vasurakan is castle of Van, on eastern side of lake Van.

Turks have already breached the castle walls. Six thousands Koppadokians were in front of keep, waiting for orders of their master, Prince Alexios Komenos of Koppadokia. They wore leather and mail armors. In their hands, sharp swords, spears and axes could be seen. Cross with four C was painted on foreheads of their helmets. They were true Byzantines. Never ready for surrender, never retreating, fight to death. They were willing to die for sake and good of Empire, of their master. Six thousands Kataphraktoi on horses were standing before Alexios, who wore his plate armor. It was shiny even on dark.
Alekios is whipping out a sword from its sheath, and lifted him up by the month.

’’My soldiers, my brothers! The day that we all feared has come. The day Turks have invaded our lands, with greatest of their armies. Nearly one hundred thousand invaded Eastern Roman Empire, our Empire, our Byzantium. They are in this castle, marching to kill us. The day Byzantine forces have crushed, and are retreating deeper into Empire. The day when Turks will kill our wives and children. But we will change this day. WE, SIX THOUSANDS KATAPHRAKTOI WILL DEFEAT THAT MIGHTY ARMY ALP ARSLAN IS LEADING! WE WILL FIGHT THEM AND DEFEND CASTLE OF VAN AND VASPURAKAN. WE ARE KOPPADOKIANS, WE ARE BYZANTINES, WE ARE KATAPHRAKTOI!!! Charge brothers, charge into deaths, charge into glory!’’ – and they charged killing Turks on every step, until they came to very castle gates. Alexios could see white flag.
Negotiations, Alexios thought.

Alp Arslan was riding the trot towards Alekios. He was a tall man with black hair that fell to his shoulders. His face was covered with blood, but not his blood. His sword was in its sheath at his waist. Large round shield was on his back. He smiled looking at Alexios.

’’Incredible leadership, I must admit. I am very impressed young lord Komnenos.’’ – Sultan said.

Alexios nodded and rebuked sultan ’’Lead your armies back to Baghdad, Turkish Sultan. I cannot tolerate to see your army in Byzantine territory.’’

Alp Arslan smiled and nodded. ’’I have came to your lands because your Emperor Konstantinos X Doukas refused to accept the peace offer.’’

’’All you want is peace?’’ – confused Alexios asked.

’’Of course. Over one century, Seljuk-Byzantine wars are destroying our Empire. I am maybe good warlord, but I want peace. I cannot see without crying Muslims dying at the hands of foreigners.’’

Alexios was looking at sultan ’’I will try to persuade my emperor to accept peace.’’

’’Elective Law is used in Byzantium, isn’t it?’’ – sultan asked,

Alexios nodded ’’Why?’’

’’I heard that crown prince Michael Doukas and you share rank of most powerful lords in Byzantium. You showed yourself worthy warlord and politician a little bit. Maybe you become an Emperor after all.’’

Alexios watched in astonishment. ’’An Emperor?’’

--

Emperor Konstaninos died only few days later, on 17th April. Michael excpected to be crowned an Emperor, but it was great dissapointing to him when title of Emperor was given to Alexios.
On june 15th Alexios Komnenos became Emperor of Byzantium , and was known as Basilius Alexios I Komnenos of Koppadokia. As his first act as an emperor, he signed peace treaty with Alp Arslan of Seljuks on July 3th. Sultan of Seljuks was merciful and decided to return Byzantines lands they lost in previous wars (Minor Armenia, rest of Vaspurkan). On october 26th, he was blessed by son.

’’It’s a boy!’’ - midwife said while holding a baby.
’’Give him to me.’’ - Zoe said impatiently.
She looked him at the eyes. He has his father’s eyes, eyes of conqueror.
’’He will be good emperor’’ – someone said
Midwife turned her head to see Alexios standing at doorstep. He walked slowly toward his wife, only to take his son in arms. He took him slowly from Zoe.
’’Oh look at that, you have my eyes’’ – he said and smiled. ’’I will name you Isaakios. That was name of first Byzantine emperor from Komnenoi dynasty.’’ – he looked at his son unblinking. ’’You are going to be strong emperor one day Isaakios. You will rule with strong fist. You will kill many enemies with Sword of Komnenoi.
I will rise you as a inheritor of an Empire and dynasty. You are my son! My first son and savior of Empire!

I really like the recent surge of activity in this forum - the more the merrier!

I've never tried playing as part of the Byzantine Empire, though it looks like it'd be worth if it you could be crowned Emperor less than a year after starting the game. I look forward to reading about Alexios, Isaakios, and the future of the Kommenids and the Empire!

Chapter I

Alexios proved to be better Emperor than others thought he will be. By the 1069, gold income was doubled. At june 15th, Alexios’ first day as an emperor, he had 34000 thousands soldiers at total. By the 1070, he had more than 55000 loyal men, ready to die for their emperor.

Alexios conquered Emirates of Allepo and Edessa in 1071st. At the end of war, Prince of Trebizond attacked Tribe of Pechenegs. Basilius Alexios had no choice but to help his vassal. He assembled 6000 men, 5000 from Konstantinopolis and marched at Pechenegs.

May 5th 1072 A.D. – Severin

’’You are better than i thought.’’ – Alexios said breathlessly

’’Die!’’ – general of Pecheneg army yelled at Alexios, as he swinged his sword. Alexios defended himself from that attack effortlessly, but next attack almost costed him his life. General tried to stab him, but he dodged jumping in left. Oghuz, that was general’s name, was wearing silver scalemail. He was a tall man, with brown hair tied at the nape.

’’Why you cannot die?’’ – he yelled, swinging his sword left and right, left and right, but the emperor was the better swordsman, as he crouched down and knocked him to the ground. He stood up and looked at the general from high. He pointed his sword to the general’s head.

’’For the Empire’’ – he said and stabbed his sword at general’s neck.

Alexios looked around himself. Byzantines were slicing Pecheneg’s throat, piercing them with their spears, and cutting their heads off with axes. Last stand of Pechenegs fell. Byzantines were victorius.

Red-Conquered by Alexios 1070-72
--

Alexios was at his tent, drinking red wine. His son is four years old, and is showing himself interested at writing and reading. What he likes most about his son is that when he is playing with his friends. At that game, he is Alexios Komnenos, savior of the Empire, conqueror of the world, and is killing Turks and Cumans. He smiled at that.

’’My lord Emperor.’’ – one Kataphraktoi said holding woman for a hand. ’’I brought you Pecheneg slut my lord Emperor as you asked.’’

Alexios nodded and showed soldier to leave.

’’Hmmm’’ – he said looking at woman. She was beautiful, with blonde hair falling to her waist. ’’What’s your name?’’

She was crying. Alekios sat down beside her.
’’Do not cry. I know you lost husband in this war, and I am sorry about this, but war is war, destructive thing I must admit. Now, tell me what’s your name?’’

’’Illiena’’ – she whispered.

Alexios smiled ’’Beautiful name for a beautiful woman.’’

Illiena was young woman, only eighteen.

’’Consider yourself lucky I chose you to be brought to me. If I left you with other women, you would probably be..... Ah, I do not want to talk about it. Most probably my general would choose you to satisfy him this night. And you wouldn’t like it, I say that.’’ – Alexios told her.

’’You killed him, I saw it.’’ – Illiena whispered.

Alexios was looking at her eyes. ’’Who was your husband?’’

’’General Oghuz of Severin. Leader of Pecheneg greatest force. You pierced his throat, infidel!’’

As Illiena yelled, two soldiers with ready swords ran into tent.

’’My lord, is everything all right?’’ – one of soldiers said, bloody sword in his hand.

’’Whose blood is that?’’ – Alexios asked.

Soldier looked at sword, then at Emperor ’’My lord Emperor, we killed twenty Pecheneg sluts, as they resisted us.’’

Alexios stood up, came to soldier and slapped him so his head turned in right.

’’You sadistic vandal!’’ – he yelled ’’You are killing defensless women? There is no honor in this. How many times we spared innocent people, be it Turk or Byzantine, or Pecheneg in this case? How many times we let women and children go? How many times?’’

’’My lord, I’m....’’ – soldier tried to said something but Alexios interupted him ’’Get out! GET OUT!’’

Soldier bowed and rushed out of tent.

’’This would happen to you too if I didn’t chose you. Eat, drink and sleep. It will be long journey to Konstantinopolis.’’

--

The people shouted Alexios’ name as he rode through Konstantinopolis at the head of his army. They threw roses in the streets through which the emperor rode. Alexios was renowned in Empire as good emperor and conqueror. People were afraid of him, but they respected him. Most of his vassals were loyal to him, only few were brave enough to chellange him at Great meeting in Konstantinopolis. On royal feasts, Alexios was chellanged on many sword fights, but he proved to be best swordsman as he won every battle. There was no moment Alexios showed weakness. Not only capable commander he was, but also good politician. He proved it at start of his reign, in 1067, when he signed a peacy treaty with Seljuks, who still had army that counted four Byzantines’. Not only he signed a peacy treaty with Alp Arslan, but was also good friend of Seljuk Sultan. Sultan’s son Malik Shah was also a good friend of Alexios. They fought many times in arena, but every time Alexios was victorius. Only man Alexios couldn’t defeat was Alp Arslan. Heron was drawn to the hilt of the sword Alp Arslan used, which marked him master swordsman.

--

Illiena was at her chambers in palace of Konstantinopolis. Only people that visits her are servants and Alexios. Zoe was furious when she learnt her husband brought some Pecheneg woman. She was wearing silver white dress. Doors of her room opened and Zoe rushed in it. Illiena stood up. She was scared but she tried to keep a blank face.

’’So you are Illiena, huh?’’ – Zoe said. She wore green dress and had diadem in her short blonde hair.

Illiena nodded. ’’Yes, I am. You must be the Empress.’’

Zoe smiled and came to her. ’’I just came here to warn you.’’ – she said while smiling. Two guards were standing at doorstep. ’’Do not try to do anything stupid now that Alexios brought you to Konstantinopolis, and by that I mean to not try to charm him, or anything like that. Do you understand?’’ – she said impudently.

’’Why should I charm infidel who killed my husband in front of me?’’ – when she said that, Zoe slapped her so strong that her head turned. Hand prints were visible on her cheek.

’’I should kill you when you said that.’’ – Zoe rebuked.

One of guards started drawing sword out of its sheathe, but one man grabbed him by the wrist.

’’You will die, Pecheneg sl..’’ – someone interrupted Zoe ’’Silence!’’

She turned her head, and when she saw who is that person she bowed her head and left her room when he showed her to leave room. When Zoe closed the doors, Alexios sat beside Illiena.

’’Let me see your face.’’ – he said gently.

When his hands reached her cheek, she stood up and ran away at other end of the room.

’’Why you brought me here? Why? Everyone hates me!’’ – she asked, tears on her cheeks.

Alexios stood up ’’Because if I left you at Severin, you would most probably die.’’

’’I don’t care!’’ – she said, still crying. ’’I want to die!’’

’’NO!’’ – Emperor yelled. ’’I won’t allow you to die, even if it cost my life. I do not know why, but somehow I got tied with you, I got no idea how or why..’’

She looked at him, confusion on her face. ’’What?’’

Hey there, I've only just noticed your AAR. It brings fond memories. I've been to Van, as well as the Akhtamar island on the lake, where the Armenians had sought refuge as at the time the Seljuks didn't have ships. Here's one for you, or two:

Chapter II

O32nF.jpg

Basilius Alexios I Komnenos of Koppadokia

’’Georigia is conquered?’’ – Alexios asked his council

’’Yes, my lord Emperor.’’ – Alexios chancellor, Helene Trichinopodes said. ’’Former Emir of Turksmen, Ibrahim of Ghazni, attacked Bagrat while he was unprepared. Army of Turksmen is weaken in this conquets. Formerly, they counted at least seven thousands soldiers, now they count barely five thousands. Ibrahim died in last battle with Georgians, and is succeded by his oldest son Masud, a mere child, only ten.’’

Alexios nodded.

’’My lord, may I ask?’’ – Eudokia Thrakesios stood up.

’’Of course’’ – Alexios replied.

She cleared her throat ’’I can always send my assassins. In past few years, I formed strong order...’’ – Alexios interrupted her. ’’No, Eudokia. I have appointed you to spy master because I believe you can protect me from other assassins. I have no doubt in that. I’ll prepare army. We will march to Georgia in hope to retake it. Theophylaktos Amiropoulos!’’

Tall, heavily built man stood up. ’’Yes, my lord Emperor?’’

’’Order mobilisation of Konstantinopolis regiment.’’

Theophylaktos nodded, and left council room.

’’Now to retake Georgia.’’

--

Alexios ordered vassals at the border with Seljuks to mobilise their armies. First was Archbishop of Armenia, Michael Eirenikos waiting at Trebizond with his 600 men.
Alexios’ army was supported by two other lords, Nikephoros Chrysaphes of County of Taron, with 400 of his men and Gregorias Gavras, Prince of Trebizond alongside his marshal Manuel Iagaris. Two of them led 1000 soldiers. Alexios marched into former Georgia.

--

July 17th 1075 A.D Guria, Imperial camp - morning

Alexios was in his tent with Michael Eirenikos and Gregorias Gavras.

’’Main Turksmen force is not far away on north. They will approach us in evening.’’ – Alexios explained to two lords. ’’I splitted my army in two parts. One half, which is counting 2000 warriors is two miles at east. Other half is at camp. In my army, I have 500 Kataphraktoi, with better armors and weapons than in previous three years. I have choosed this valley because we can surprise Turksmen when they arrive and surround them.’’

Two lords nodded.

’’Now, we should set up the trap. Turkmens wouldn’t know what caught them.’’

--

Five thousand Turksmen marched towards Alexios fortified camp. They were led my Mehmet of Turkmens, marshal of Turkmen army in Georgia.

’’Mehmet-pasha, Byzantines are in this valley.’’ – one of soldiers reported.

Mehmet nodded ’’We can surprise them. Split the army in two columns, with distance of half mile, then march deeper in the valley. Send scouts to search out Byzantine positions.’’

Soldier rushed out in unknown direction.

I will defeat them, Mehmet thought.

Turksmen waren’t armored very well, except personal Mehmet’s guards, who wore plate armour. Spearman wore armor of hard leather. They had short spears in their hands. Swordsmen wore chained leather. Their shields were made of wood. In their hands, mand could see a sharp scimitar. Archers wore soft leather or no armor at all. Their shortbows were strong and could reach far, but were not good as ones Byzantines had.

’’Mehmet-pasha! Scouts have returned!’’ – One horseman said ’’In the camp, there is no more than three thousands soldiers, although many of them are good armored.’’

Mehmet smiled. ’’I defeated Georgian army of ten thousands with seven thousands, losing only two thousands. This will be easy.’’

’’But pasha, army is led by Alexios Komnenos of Koppadokia. Rumors say he is incredible commander.’’

’’Yes I know. I heard a story about battle at castle of Van. They say that was last battle in Seljuk-Byzantine wars, and that Alexios Komnenos with 6000 Kataphraktoi defeated army of fifty thousands Seljuks, led by Alp Arslan himself.’’

’’Yes pasha. But what about fall of Allepo and Edessa. He conquered it in less than two years. Even though those Emirates were small, together they counted more than 15000 soldiers, and Byzantine Emperor led no more than 5000 soldiers in conquest.’’

’’Yes you are right, soldier. But if these stories were true, let’s test them then and see if legendary Alexios Komnenos is capable of doing that in reality not only in stories.
--

Turkmens attacked Alexios’ camp in two columns. Upon reaching fortified camp towers, they lost many men. Soon after, arrows darkened the sky. Most casualties were from Turksmen, but Mehmet was stubborn, and without knowing it, he led his army in slaughter. Trained Byzantine troops easily crushed unexpirienced Turksmen and Mehmet was forced to retreat. Last five hundreds of Turksmen tried to escape from Alexios troops, but their escape was blocked by Archbishop of Armenia and Prince of Trebizond and their 2000 troops. After another arrow valley, Mehmet was laying on bloody ground, with six arrows in his body. One more victory was added into Alexios collection, as this one was won without losing even 1000 soldiers. With main Turksmen army crushed, Alexios marched deeper into former Georgia to retake it from Muslims.

It'll be interesting to see what will come of Illiena and Alexios's relationship. Hopefully Georgia is brought back into the Orthodox fold without too much trouble.

Alex Borhild: Georgia is retaken, don't worry about that. Good thing that a bastard son of Alexios is born. You will learn about him at upcoming updates.

Chapter III

’’Father, my birthday was yesterday, and you promised me that I’ll get married on my birthday.’’ – Isaakios clarifies to his father.

’’I did.’’ - Alekios corresponding short

’’My sixteenth birthday has passed, and I’m still not married.’’

Alexios smiled ’’Don’t worry, my son.’’

Broad wings of the palace gates were opened, and through them passes a young beautiful woman in the company of a tall man and a few soldiers. Her black hair was bound in a bun. Her beautiful face highlighted above all. She wore blue dress, with transparent veil on her head.

’’Father, who’s this?’’ – Isaakios whispered.

Alexios smiled and replied ’’Your future wife.’’

Isaakios opened his mouth when he heard these words.

’’My future wife?’’ – He asked, confusion on his face.

Alexios nodded and stood up.

’’I welcome you, Lucio Torchitorio, count of Arborea, vassal of Heinrich von Franken, King of Germany, Italy and Burgundy, Holy Roman Emperor.’’

’’I thank you, Basilius of Byzantine Empire, Alexios of Koppadokia. It was long trip from Sardinia to Konstantinopolis. Storm caught our ships on halfway. We would come one month earlier if our ships weren’t damaged. We apologise.’’

’’No need for that, young count. You are given a title of count when I visited you on Sardinia, just few days after death of your father. Accept my condolences.’’

Lucio nodded. He was in his plate armour, with big two-handed broadsword on his back.

’’I see you are in your armour, young lord.’’ – Alexios said.

Lucio nodded and replied ’’There are many bandits in outskirts of Konstantinopolis. I guess you have troubles dealing with them.’’

Alexios frowned ’’Yes we have. But we are finding their hideouts with no trouble. In this year there is much less of them then last year.’’
Lucio smiled and pointed his finger to young woman.

’’This is Edda Montefeltro, daughter of Simone Montefeltro, steward at my court.’’

Alexios came to her. ’’She looks strong, I must admit and beautiful.’’

’’May I meet your son, Alexios Komnenos?’’ – Lucio asked.

Alexios nodded ’’Isaakios!’’

Tall boy, whole head taller than Alexios approached his father. He wore light green tunic. At his waist, man could see one handed shortsword.

’’Yes, father?’’ – Isaakios said looking at Edda.

’’Lord Lucio, this is my oldest son, Isaakios.’’

Lucio smiled. ’’He has his father’s face, one must admit.’’ He looked at Alexios ’’I heard, my lord Emperor that you are master swordsman. Prince Alexios is born on same year as I, and I would like to challange him on duel. I was able to keep on par with Holy Roman Emperor, and I think that he will be no problem for a swordsman like me.’’

Isaakios frowned. ’’Challange accepted.’’

’’We are all here for marriage, not for duel.’’ – Alexios reminded them

’’Father, I do not want to be coward.’’

Alexios looked for few moments at his son. ’’All right.’’

Lucio smiled. He was known by his skill in Holy Roman Empire. Lucio won many tournaments in Holy Roman Empire and France. He was renowned fighter and would probably be able to defeat Alexios in duel if he had a chance.

They went to arena in square of Konstantinopolis and soon after people gathered to watch duel between crown prince of Byzantium and master swordsman of Holy Roman Empire.

Alexios approached Isaakios while he was in arena. ’’My son, take this sword.’’

Isaakios's eyes widened when he saw the sword. Sword of Komnenoi, Sword of Komnenids conquerors.

Είμαι καταιγίδ σπαθί των Κομνηνών υπερασπιστής της αυτοκρατορίας
(I am Storm, sword of Komnenoi, defender of Empire)
It was written on the sword

’’Father, you said I would take it when I succeed the throne.’’

’’Take it now. If you defeat this man, you will keep it.’’

Isaakios smiled. ’’Then I’ll show him what crown prince of Byzantium can do!’’

--

Isaakios stepped into a fighting stance. Lucio was twenty steps in front of him.

Isaakios in arena

’’Come on!’’ – Lucio yelled.

Isaakios closed his eyes for few moments, and he opened them he was already swinging Sword of Komnenoi in perfect circle towards Lucio. Lucio smiled and with ease dodged attack, crouching. With hilt of his sword, he hit Isaakios in stomach, who emits a painful moans. Isaakios staggers backward only to make Lucio punch him in nose, knocking him to the dusty ground. Isaakios is coughing up dust.

’’I thought you were better.’’ – Lucio provokes.

Isaakios frowned, and quickly stood up and swinged his sword in right. For a few moments, you could only hear clanging metal.

’’Not bad, kid. Not bad at all.’’ – Lucio provokes again.

Kid?, Issakios thinks. I’ll show him who’s kid.

Lucio tried to stab Isaakios, but he jumps in left swinged his sword and cutted Lucio on breasts.

’’What?’’ – Lucio asked confused, when Isaakios’ fist knocked him on the ground. He sat on him and started punching him with his arms, until he yelled ’’Stop! Please stop!’’

Isaakios smiled and stood up ’’Call medic!’’ – he said to one of soldiers. He looked at sword in his right hand.

Είμαι καταιγίδ σπαθί των Κομνηνών υπερασπιστής της αυτοκρατορίας
(I am Storm, sword of Komnenoi, defender of Empire

He won duel which means he can keep sword. ‘’Father will be proud.’’ – he whispered.

--

‘’You are now man and wife, you may kiss the bride.’’ – Archbishop of Byzantium said looking at Isaakios and Edda.

Isaakios kissed her. She was his wife, and this was happiest day in his life.
Finally, he thought. He will sleep with real noblewoman and not only with maids and peasant women. He once slept with Juliene Capet, daughter of father.

--

Soon after marriage, Edda gave birth to daughter which she named Theodora. Isaakios loves his daughter most on this life, but he wants son.

--

On august 17th, thing Alexios feared most happened. Alp Arslan of Seljuk Turks declared war on Prince of Trebizond because he attacked his ally, Emir of Turksmen. Alexios had no choice but to join this war. Soon after he gathered most powerful lords of Empire at palace of Konstantinopolis.

On august 25th Alexios was making war plans for upcoming war without knowing that day was his last.

On the one hand, I hope that a bastard doesn't cause too much trouble for Alexios and Isaakios, but on the other hand intrigue and setbacks are always interesting. Stories would be boring if the good (or bad) guys always won without too much trouble. Too bad about Alexios, though - I'm sure Isaakios is about to learn if he's made of the right stuff. Defeating the master swordsman of the Holy Roman Empire is one thing - the death of an Emperor, and one's father, is another.

Chapter IV

It was cold night. The moon was at the top of a dark sky. Nobles were still at great hall of Konstantinopolis, preparing for upcoming war with Seljuks.

’’This is unforgivable!’’ – Alexios said curtly. ’’Michael leads army of ten thousands men, and is not willing to go to war.’’ – he talked to himself
’’I should teach him a lesson.’’ - He was red with anger.
Suddenly, he stopped. Alexios looked around himself, no one was in hall. Flares were giving little light. He shrugged his shoulders and turned to continue on his way, when he saw an shape in a black robe standing ten paces from him, with a knife in his hand.

He looked at that shape with his mouth opened. For few heart beats, they were just standing, and for few next, shape in black robe attacked Emperor. He dodged knife attacks easily. When he tried to pierce Alexios , with his left hand he grabbed the hand that held the knife, and the right elbow hit him in the head. Person fell to the ground, small stream of blood flowed from the mouth of that person.
I have to run, he thought when two same shapes in black robes blocked his path. He turned and started running in another direction when three more shapes blocked his last escape. Every one of them was holding sword in their hands. In one second, they all rushed towards Alexios. He took knife from one that fell to the ground and attacked them.

--

’’Where is my father?’’ – Isaakios asked after learning Alexios is not coming to Great hall.
’’I can go search for him, my lord.’’ – Isaakios’ bodyguard said.
Alexios shook his head ’’No, I will go.’’

--

In great hall, Michael was sitting in his chair, drinking red wine. Some man, clad in black robe, just without his hood approached Michael.
’’My lord Michael. I have sent them to finish off the Emperor.’’
Michael smiled and sipped wine.
’’Be sure he’s dead.’’
’’I have sent ten of my best men to finish off the job, my lord Michael.’’
Michael stood up.
’’After you kill him, be sure to kill Isaakios. I must be emperor, do you understand?’’
Man in black robe nodded and rushed in unknown direction.
Michael sat in his chair.
You will die, Alexios. , and smiled.

--

Alexios’ body was covered with injuries on his chest, on his arms and legs. He was tired fighting those men. They were trained blademasters. He managed to kill four of them. Only one remained. He cutted his head after blocking series of men’s attacks.
Alexios sighed with relief. Then, in front of him appeared same man in black robe, with crossbow in his hand.
Alexios looked at him, terriffied. He turned. Three man wielding dual swords blocked his path. Again, he looked at man with crossbow.
’’Who is your mast...’’ – one crossbow hit him in chest. Few heart beats later, second hit him in right shoulder. Alexios grinned the teeth and growled in anger and pain.
He fell on knees when third bolt hit him. He was breathing hard.
So this is how I die. I never imagined I would be assassinated.
He looked at man wielding crossbow, when he saw Isaakios behind him, some thirty paces away.
No doubt those men wielding dual swords saw him, so he yelled ’’RUN!’’

Isaakios stopped. He saw his father with three bolts in his body. He saw three men running towards him, trained blade masters who wants to kill him. He stood, terriffied. His father is diying, and now he will die.
Father, no. ’’I won’t forgive you!’’ – he yelled, drawing his sword out of its sheathe. He charged towards three blademasters. At light of flare, color of his eyes was changing. For second they were blue, for second they were red. His eyes only seen those men, who attacked his father. Few seconds later, three men wearing black robe were laying on ground, dead.
’’Impossible!’’ – remaining one said, targeting Isaakios with his crossbow. He fired bolt, but Isaakios jumped in right dodging bolt. He run just few more steps and pierced assassin through neck.
Blood was flowing from his neck and mouth. Limp body of assassin fell to the ground. He ran towards his father.

Upon seeing his son is alive, Alexios smiled ’’Isaakios.’’ – he smiled again
’’I’m here father!’’
’’Isaakios...’’ – he said his last words. He exhaled air and the soul.
Isaakios hugged him, crying.
’’I will find out who did this father, I swear to you. He will suffer. I will torture him for days. I will kill him with my own hand!’’

Twenty royal guards ran towards Isaakios and dead emperor, with Michael ahead of them.
’’He killed the emperor! Prince Isaakios killed Emperor Alexios!’’ – Michael yelled.
’’What?’’
’’Get him!’’ – five soldiers knocked Isaakios on the ground. ’’Komnenos are dishonoured. They cannot be emperors.’’ – Michael said and rushed in great hall.

--

Those twenty soldiers were Isaakios’ bodyguards.
’’My lord, is it true that you killed emperor?’’ – one asked.
Isaakios looked at him, hatred in his eyes ’’Are you blind? You didn’t see those dead bodies. Men in black robes!’’
Soldiers haven’t led Isaakios to prison, but to secret passage.
’’Why are you leading me here? This is not prison.’’ – he asked, confusion on his face.
’’Your father once saved my life. I swore I would return a favor.’’
’’You are letting me go?’’
Soldier nodded.
Isaakios looked at soldier for few moments. ’’Thank you. I will reward you when I reclaim my throne.’’
’’I haven’t let you go so you should die reclaiming throne, my lord!’’
’’No! I must reclaim my throne. I would regret my whole life if I wouldn’t do that!’’
Soldier looked at Isaakios face. He had same eyes as Alexios.
Eyes of Conqueror.
’’If you will do it then. Take this.’’
From his robe, he took Sword of Komnenoi and gave it to Isaakios.
’’Where did you get this?’’ – he asked, looking at sword.
’’I have my own secrets.’’ – he said and smiled. ’’Now go, my lord. You don’t have much time.’’
Isaakios nodded and smiled. He escaped keep of Konstantinopolis and went to Great Lion Inn, after soldier gave him information that he would there meet his family. He met his mother there.
’’Where are my sisters and brothers?’’ – he asked.
’’They’re sleeping up stairs, my son.’’ – Zoe replied.
Isaakios nodded. ’’Tommorow, I will reclaim what’s mine. Tommorow, I will kill Michael!’’

I have bad news guys. I was planning to continue this aar this week, but since my computer was attacke by virus ( I couldn't start any application) in order to fix my computer, I had to delete everything from it. I would copy CK on usb, but drives aren't working, so I can't continue this aar, but don't worry. I'll get a new computer soon and I'll make an aar for CK2 maybe.
Cheers,
