Up to now Austria seemed really peaceful. Do countries get more aggressive when they get large?

Oh, and Sweden just seems to be waiting to be annexed ;)

Bah, u don't want those swede provinces anyway. :D

Austria looks ripe for the taking, u haven't been peaceful thus far, so why don't give 'em some? :)

Well, your wish is my command, sir! u get your wish!

Just played through a few peaceful years, but alas without opportunity to build those much needed factories. I hope to post the report early next week.

Poland 18 - cleaning up a lot of mess.

(1703 - cont'd)
One of the nice things about Brandenburgs annexation is that when Brandenburg recruited 23000 men, 17000 of them survived the battle and fled to their occupied capital. These 17000 men are now in Polish service, and can help to clean up the rebels in Mecklenburg and Munster.
Land technology advances to artillery ammo carriage(38).

On the whole, I feel very pleased with the outcome of the most recent war vs Spain, Russia, Sweden and Brandenburg. Sweden could be settled fast but gained us a small province nevertheless. The annexation of Brandenburg gives us 3 rich provinces, and solves the problem that our western provinces Munster and Hannover had a bit of an isolated position.
The small corridor of Baltic provinces to the west is now considerably more secure. The gain of Pskov widened the corridor to the north, while our entry into Siberia cuts into the Russian monopoly and offers opportunity for further expansion.

1703, 383d.
Lots of effort goes into trading. From Barabinsk armies explore northwards and trade posts arise in Ob and Demianka, while the latter is quickly raised to a colony. Revolts of tens of thousands of peasants arise in Brandenburg, Mecklenburg and Magdeburg. I suppose that winter and time will deal with most of them.
Our generals report our troops are now invincible :). I doubt it, but it is good they feel that way!

1704, 354d.
Income last year: 2496.
Magdeburg, Brandenburg, Pskov, Azov, Volgograd and Astrakahan are revolting provinces. I recruit new troops in Besarabia and transport them to Kerch, which results in Azov being retaken. On to Astrakahan.
I seem to have made a minor mistake, as France seems to be still at war with Russia. They besiege Livonia. Somehow the French Russian war seems to have fallen out of the peace treaty.

1705. 399d.
Kustrin, Volgograd, Bujak and Astrakahan are remaining trouble spots. I send traders to newly discovered Tchany.
At a cost of 18 each, I sent 5 merchants to Mascate.
With Poland enjoying peace everywhere, the 5 yearly Ingermanland party is held and to everyones surprise the king chooses Munster as the strategic goal for the next b5 years.
land tech advances to salvo fire(39).
Austria and Georgia sign a white peace with Russia.

1706. 393d.
Pskov, Bujak, Volgograd and Savolaks revolt. To combat 13% inflation, 3 mayors are promoted to governors.
This year sees the end of all revolts except Bujak and Pskov, where rebels decrease to the point they can no longer besiege the town.

1707. This year the last warloan comes up, so money is spent on trade positions and 7000 infantry for the Magdeburg army.
Russia invades French owned Prussia - Russia and France are still at war.

1708. 408d.
As over each of the past years, we actively expand our small colony in Demianka. We also continue to recruit in Barabinsk, the army is currently 9000 men and facing 15000 Russians.
As an experiment, I switch to automatic traders. The main reason is that I get more traders than I remember to use.

1709. 593d.
The automatic trader sending results in a continuous stream of traders to Besarabia. But income there increases only slightly. Revolts in former Brandenburg provinces break out and are surpressed, but army losses need to be replenished.
Infrastructure improves to manufactories(8).

1710. 585d.
At the 5 yearly Ingemanland party the King declares that the safety of Munster remains his top priority. In a confidential talk he also lets me know he would like to see Holland added to our possessions. But I fear Russia, our eternal enemy, which has rebuild his army to double the size of ours.
Spain and Austria sign peace: return to status quo.
land tech increases to mathematical siege(40).
Bohemia signs a white peace with Turkey and its minors. So does Saxony and Georgia.
A political crisis works destructive results on stability and investments.
Demianka becomes a colonial town. It receives small walls.

1711. 318d.
Naval tech advances to lower deck battery (20). All investments now go to stability.

1712. ???d.
I start a trade post in Khmer in SE Asia. A new CoT arises in our level 1 colony Ohotsk. Of course still revolts in all new provinces.

1713. 308d.
Lugansk revolts. Russia seems to be mobilising for war. Austria is still nominally at war with Sweden, and relations are only slightly negative. I offer them a royal marriage and they accept. Austria pays 173d to Holstein for peace.

1714. 363d.
Income last year: 2682d.
The new trade centre in Ohotsk is worth over 600, so I send all merchants into it. Costs a small fortune, but might be worth it. Stability slowly creeps back up to +3.
In September, England declares war on France. Don’t ask me why, our diplomats are at a loss. Perhaps some captain has been maltreated. Netherlands and Austria join the war on England’s side. So do Georgia and Aragon. The entire France-Poland alliance is loyal to France.
With France, Baden, Netherlands, England, Austria, and we all present in central Germany, it looks like its gonna be a very complex war.

I wonder what gave you this impression. I feel most wars have been declared upon me. But when I am at war with one of those nations, I make sure they pay for it.

You have spread wide and far in Europe. No doubt you are in safe waters by now? Russia will probably mess up and loose half their army on the way to any attack they might launch against you.

I feel reasonably secure. Whatever happens, it would take a large federation to overrun Poland. But I still feel Poland cannot afford to push up a high badboy rating, as that causes imh experience very long wars, for which Poland is very ill equipped.

Poland 19 - was vs England, Netherlands, Georgia, Austria.

I decide that the plan should be to let France receive the first blows from Netherlands and England, while I annex Georgia and then take parts of Austria.
The Besarabia army enters Moldavia and beats 3000 recruits. With a warloan I recruit fresh troops in Besarabia und Ukraine.
Our Kerch army of 17000 men beats 19000 georgians and pursues them to their homeland, only to arrive their at half strength and be butchered. They flee back to Azov, pursued by the victorious georgians, who beat them again, after which just 2000 escape to Lugansk. So far my plan to score a quick win over the georgians to put them out of the war. :(

1715.
3 of my armies siege Carpaten, Moldavia and Ruthenia. In middle Germany, Austria and Netherlands get the upper hand over France and Baden. Netherlands captures Zeeland from Baden and Austria grabs Baden itself. France takes Hessen, an English possession.
Magdeburg revolts with 30000 peasants. In december I sent 7000 regulars against them, but the peasants make short work of them.
The French relieve Baden and capture Thuringen. Austria also is still at war with Sweden who besiege Austrian Antwerpen. Russia is still at war with the netherlands and controls Oldenburg.

1716. 456d.
With a disaster threatening at Magdeburg, I spent the entire years budget to recruit new troops in Brandenburg and Eastern Pommerania.
The polish armies capture Ruthenia. The Georgians attack us with 14K men in Lugansk and 7K regulars beat them back. Neither side has anything left worth mentioning.
Land tech advances to sappeurs(41).
Maros is taken. Austria sends all its armies west to combat France. Both France and Austria have huge armies in the field, typically 80K and 250K. The new troops defeat the Magdeburger rebels as they enter Brandenburg, but are unable to besiege Magdeburg. Baden pays Austria 250d for peace. Netherlands grants Oldenburg to Russia, and beats the Badeners out of Zeeland.

1717. 450d.
New troops from the new budget to besiege Magdeburg. French troops besiege a Georgian province and I send 5000 men to support them.
Austria pays 200d to Tuscany for peace - Tuscany was besieging 1 austrian province. Austria breaths a bit more freely and tries to take back Thuringen, taken earlier by the French, and commit over 80000 men to this enterprise. The French dwarf this project by creating a 250,000 men army to retake one of their towns.
The war versus Austria runs like a breeze. I control now Carpaten, Moldavia, Transsylvania, Ruthenia and Maros. All remaning polish troops, about 30,000 and 200 guns, go to Moravia. We capture Georgia and it is French controlled. I strike a white peace with Georgia, freeing myself from one pain.
Somehow, though I am leader of the alliance, I am unable to make a peace with Austria as alliance leader of the Polish-French alliance. When Austria offers Carpaten, Moldavia and Ruthenia, I accept.
France forces peace on England and the latter cedes 3 colonies to France. This peace means that England regains control of it Hessen province, where it starts recruiting right away. They refuse a blank peace offer, so I send some of the troops intended for Magdeburg to Hessen instead. The Dutch start to besiege Munster, which I dont like, as it could cost me a lot of VPs.

1718. 436d.
The dutch start the year by storming Munster but fail. While they are recovering, our army intended for Hessen falls on them and breaks their siege. Baden recaptures its Zeeland province and Austria sues it for peace. Order is restored in Magdeburg. Army tech advances to light infantry(42).
After recapturing Magdeburg the main army, 13000 foot, 34000 horse and 265 guns, starts to besiege Hessen in August. In december, its walls still do not show a single sign of damage.

1719. 427d.
Savoy strikes a white peace, having contributed little or nothing to the war. Not exactly true perhaps, as 20000 Dutchmen were camping in the Savoyan countryside.
In May, Austria accept that French will be the new language in Thuringen. We capture Hessen, but England refuses to accept peace when we ask for this mediocre strip of land.
Pskov revolts, but father Winter will deal with that rebelscum. France is at peace with the Netherlands.
Our armies move on to Kleves and Koln.

1720. 432d.
The polish armies besiege Koln and Kleves. Aside from Pskov, there is another revolt in Ruthenia. With all the attrition deducting from infantry, infantry is all recruiment I need. Oh, and a couple of ships for a future invasion in England.
Cologne and Kleves are taken, but Pskov falls to rebels. So does Brandenburg. The Netherlands offer Kleves and Cologne.
Pskov declares independant! Grr, thats a lot sooner than I expected!

1721.
With revolts breaking out in Astrakahan and Novgorod, I suggest peace to the dutch for Cologne and Luxembourg, which they accept.
England refuses to give up Hessen or pay 250d. Novgorod revolts again, and so do Ruthenia and Carpaten. Desparate, I offer Pskov a white peace. The fools refuse. Azov revolts. It cannt take long before Astrakahan declares itself independant.

1722. 398d.
Forced by more revolts., I accept Englands suggestion of a white peace. France annexes Georgia. Even with an extra warloan I cannot recruit sufficient troops to surpress all revolts. Revolts throughout the country, while Pskov is the only country we are at war with.

1723. 400d.
New troops in the southeast are recruited, and the Brandenburg army with its 240 guns marches in the winter to Pskov to help take the city. Of course, as soon as their city is taken in September, they are willing to consider a white peace. No way, guys, even if I have to fight all of europe. I annex them. Luckily, no one declares war on this bad boy.

1724. 453d.
Astrakahan, Memel, Western pommerania and some other provinces still cause troubles. 14000 rebels in western pommerania even defeat 11000 soldiers.
Just when I think its over and I take these 3 provinces, Beasarabia, Ruthenia, Pskov and Moldavia revolt.
Desparate, I decrease investsments cause I need the money.
Army tech now is brown bess musket(43).

1725. 535d.
The Kings new assignment is to keep Luxembourg. Everytime I think te revolts are over, some other province revolts. This time 83000 peasants in Brandenburg have some trivial complaints.

1726. 452d.

Poland 20

The Russian-swedish-china alliance gets itself into a war with Turkey and Crimea, and as a partial result Russia annexes Crimea. Both Russia and Sweden look like spent , so we happily declare war on Russia, on which we have a CB. We dont have much contact with China, but they do manage to burn some trade posts.
The first targets are Swedish Donetsk & Nyland, Moscow and Siberian Tomsk. We take out 2 warloans. Moscow and Nyland turn out very tough, but the war against Russia goes very well, and soon we control several Russian provinces. Still the Russians are tenacious in peace negotiations, but we settle for Crimea and a trade post. After all, it is not Russia we are after. Soon we can bring Holstein under siege. In the south, we capture Donetsk. Our French allies send lots of help, even ignoring revolts in their area in former Georgia. A continous stream of 15K-50K armies can be seen marching from France, through Luxembourg and northern Germany, northern Poland and around the entire Baltic sea and then south through Sweden again.
By 1741, Poland and France together control all of Sweden. Still I have no annexation option. What's wrong?

(to be cont'd - i am currently sorting out your suggestions)

One of the things that strikes me as odd is that Poland is still counter reformed catholic. Shouldnt that have ended by now?
If so, I suppose it's best to change the save file manually?

I know there's a bug that lets you continue to choose CRC as a religious conversion option after the Edict of Tolerance. In the past, if I recall correctly, if I was CRC when the EoT happened it would automatically convert me to plain ol' Catholic, though. Guess that didn't happen for you. You can always convert back if you need the taxes more than the colonist... ;)

hi Morlac,

thx for confirming my suspiscion its a bug. It seems most realistic to me to edit the save file and set myself manually at catholic, so I'll do that.

Just wanted to let you know that I edited the save file. It played well for a while, then it crashed without warning.

And I assume it doesn't open properly now?

Hmm. I assume you spelled it right! ;)

There is also a tag in the save file called "changed religion" or something like that, that lists the date you last changed religions.

I suppose its possible that there was some sort of expected value there as well that caused the crash, though that seems unlikely.

Given that the file never properly converted you from CRC to Catholic in the first place, I'm suspicious of it. If you get any other buggy behavior, you might want to wipe all the files and do a clean install of the game, the patch, and the IGC if you're using it.

In any case, keep the autosave turned on and set to save every year, and archive a save file every couple years, just in case...

And you could always try a really kludgy workaround -- change religion from CRC to Protestant during wartime so you don't lose alliances, etc. Then edit the save file to restore your stability. Then change back from Protestant to CRC and edit the file again to restore stability... (Told you it was kludgy!)

After changeing the save file, it played well, untill it crashed.

I replayed, and it crashed at about the same date.

And CRC is my only option - I don't have any conversion option. So no work around through protestantism.
I guess I am stuck at CRC :(

If it keeps crashing at relatively the same date the problem may be with an event that's supposed to be happening around then.

I don't know whether it would work, but you might try editing the dates in your save file to something a year or so ahead of the crash. If it was being caused by an event, that might let you work around it (assuming the date is the trigger).

Of course, it may not be worth your time, since you were pretty close to the end anyway. I do recommend reinstalling, though, in case some of your files have become corrupted...

nope, i dont think reinstalling EU would solv it. I suppose that my manual editing overlooked something whicg wrakes havoc after 14 months or so of playing.
I will probbaly try to pick up the un-edited save file and continue playing as crc.
But that will be after our 4w holiday.
