  • Crusader Kings II: The Old Gods
Hello everyone!
I did an AAR on the reign of Nest 'the Saint', a character I played, and this is the teaser ;)
I must confess it's from an old game that I took over so I had to go back into it to find the context.

I hope you will enjoy it and don't hesitate to say what you think about it and if you want the rest of the AAR !

Well, it's certainly grabbed my attention. That brief snapshot would make the perfect back-cover summary for a Penguin paperback biography. Consider me a follower -- hoping to see more soon!

Also, welcome to AARland! :D

I already told you in the French subfora, but I'm eager to see more of it.

If you manage to write in French and English both, I will probably follow the former AAR, as this part of the Paradoxland deserve some love and activity. But be assured I'm interested in your work in all cases.

Thank you for your supports ! Here is the next page, enjoy it ;) ! If you want a focus on a character or a family (for example here the Ooryphas) don't hesitate to ask it !

Holy moly, this is good! It really feels like I'm immersed in a history lesson!
I have several questions:
1. I'm not familiar with the Karlings, was Pepin the Hunchback a legitimised bastard? Or how did he succeed to the throne?
2. Did Ceslin die before his mother? You said he ascended the throne after his mother died, but Valeria died in 945 and Ceslin in 942. Also, in the family tree he's marked as Valeria's predecessor.
3. I guess we're gonna see Itta again? (This may answer itself :))
And as a request for a "focus chapter", I'd like to know how the Oryphaas got to the throne of the Eastern Roman Empire.

I will try to answer all your questions :) ! In this alternate reality, Pepin the Hunchback was a legitimized bastard indeed !

The French subforum noticed a mistake from me : Ceslin rules between 933 et 942 then Valeria between 942 and 945 and finally Itta between 945 and 950... I will correct it for the final version ;)

We will see the legacy of Itta and the consequences for the reign of Nest but not a lot I'm afraid... And for the focus chapter it seems to be a good idea I will try (I promise nothing !)

An incredible figure whose deeds will likely be discussed alongside those of Alexander and Julius Caesar. Nest the Saint was one of those once-a-generation figures who just dominates the era they live in, and her achievements will shape the course of European history for centuries to come.

I think it would be interesting to have another chapter that goes into detail a little about her private life and her family relationships as well.

It is already plan ! We will see her religious decisions, her ruthless policy and her "private" life... next week !

Nest looks to be a contradictory figure...

A Catholic and an Orthodox... a Frank and a Greek...

A Roman Empire lies restored.

A momentous event in the history of Christendom. The end of the Great Schism and the subordination of the bishops of Rome to the Imperial power will certainly have a profound effect on Europe's history for generations to come, perhaps even more so than the resurrection of the old Roman Empire.

That was likely a pragmatic move.

Caesaropapism is always good for the Caesars, after all.
