Fun Game
This isn't really a AAR, but I wanted to post this because I find it entertaining. I am playing an IGC as Sweden, with the Mighty Burgundy option on. So far, the most interesting things that have happened have been the activity of the minors. I have never played with Mighty Burgundy on, so maybe this has something to do with it (also Burgundy won the first war with France, taking two provinces) By 1520, the following have happened:
1) Catalonia appears, taking three provinces and declaring war on Spain. They then go on to capture two Spanish provinces, and just when it looks like they might win the war, France declares war on Catalonia bringing her numerous allies with her. Within 18 months, Spain has made peace, taking back one province and Savoy has annexed the rest of Catalonia!
2) The Knights declare war on Spain and their allies dishonor the alliance. After 3 years of hard battle, Spain sues for peace, granting Naples and Roussilon to the Knights.
3) France declares war on Lorraine. While France is taking Lorraine, the Lorrainian (?) army takes Helvetia. Days before Lorraine falls to France, Helvetia agrees to be annexed by Lorraine. As a result, Lorraine and her alies win the war and France has lost one of her best allies. (One month later, Lorraine-Helvetia is diplomatically annexed by Austria.)
4) Turkey declares war on Mameluks. Turns out to be a mistake, the Mameluks take Trabzon and their Venetian allies take Bosnia and Kosovo. (Later, with different allies, Mameluks lose 6 provinces to Turkey and her allies... though they retain Trabzon.)
5) Austria declares war on Venice. Though Austria later sues for peace, getting a mere 40 Ducats for their troubles, Austria's allies cash in: Hungary takes Istria, Palatinate takes Mantua.
6) Milan takes Emilia in a war against the Papal States. One month later, they inherit Genoa.
Of course, I have occasionally seen AI minor powers achieve some success, only to have it fade later, and I imagine Savoy and Milan will both have difficulty maintaining their empires, but it is still fun to see. But I have never seen so much activity on the minor front all at once. I expect Ukrainian, Sardinian, Greek, Serbian and Sicilian independence at any moment.
