When I received permission from the Archduke to take oven the then-dormant Aberration mod, I was joined soon after by Incompetant and we discussed where we should take the mod, and decided that it ought to be a seperate entity. We decided on Aberration II, so that the connection was there and it made sense in the forum we were in as well.
Nikolai and Bykiahiakim voiced privately their preference for the mod they worked on Aberration, whilst wishing me well with our new project. That confirmed for me the importance of having it be seen as a different mod, not just a continuation of Aberration. So I have always conceived of it that there would be two mods, Aberration and Aberration II.
The two mods share a number of common features and design principles but differ markedly in others. Few of the files (events, leaders, monarchs, province.csv etc) In Aberration II bear much resemblence to Aberration, and I think this is a process that will continue as we move 'eastwards' re-aberrating.
If the Archduke wants to pick up Aberration again and work on it and have others join him, that's cool. It's his mod, his time, his life. If he wants to add to Aberration II, then he's welcome to contribute too. And the EU2 world will be richer for it.
Take care.
