Just a quick technical note for those wishing to run Aberration on the Mac OSX port of Europa Universalis 2. It's incredibly easy to do and i thought you guys might appreciate the details. You may wish to include this small guide with the next release for those downloading it.

1. Download the latest version of Aberration. You will links to it in this forum or in Archdukes signature
2. The zip file will have self extracted into a folder aptly entitled "Aberration". Simply drag and drop this into the "EU II Data Files" folder in your applications/europa universalis II folder.
3. Launch the "Europa Universalis" application that you are using (see my sig for the latest 1.08 installer and data patch) - you may have to hold down the option key in order to bring up the application options menu.
4. In the scenario field simply key in "Aberration" and click on OK.

Your EU2 folder, and options menu, should look like this in order for the scenario to work properly.

I hope you guys dont mind me posting this here? I'm just hoping this will help anyone curious about running aberration on a mac. I might even do an installer too...

I couldn´t have put it better, thanks, Languish!:)

Hope someone reads this--<fingers crossed>

I just found this and am looking forward to playing Aberration since I've heard many great things about it. However, I must have done something wrong. I downloaded the Aberration 1.06b in zip and it did unzip as you said into a folder "Aberration." I put it in the file as instructed (just like AGCEEP), but when I went to play, it came to the scenario screen with no info there.

I quit and looked again. INSIDE the unzipped aberration folder is ANOTHER folder entitled Aberration and IN THERE is all the info I would expect such as AI, Config, DB and so forth. However, in that second level is ANOTHER FOLDER called Gfx. Is that just an extra folder? Is that to be put somewhere else?

If its for the vanilla EU2 data folder, does it conflict with EGUFSM?

Any help is appreciated! :)

Just move everything in the second Aberration folder up to the first one and you should be set. The Gfx folder in the Aberration folder should remain, and whatever is in there will override what is in the vanilla Gfx folder.
(I'd guess.. I don't have Mac  )

Ok, if I make the second level "Aberration" folder the top level, then the other Gfx folder stays one level down. Right? I know this is confusing since the titles are the same.

Unzipped, there is an Aberration folder. Inside are two folders, aberration and Gfx. Now, in this second aberration folder, there already is a Gfx folder.

What you are saying is to eliminate (in essence) the second level folder by moving everything up to the top folder (the one that unzipped). But I should LEAVE the other Gfx folder? That will, then give me TWO gfx folders in the Aberration folder and it won't let me do that.

The first Gfx folder (the one that shows up unzipped, beside the second aberration folder, has two folders--Map and palette. Inside Map is the folder Units and in there are what looks like army files and yet another folder, Bmp. That leads to a series of files whose first name is Kaigon. Back up inside the Palette folder are 4 bmp files whose first name also is Kaigon.

Now, inside the aberration folder is the other Gfx folder as I mentioned and in there is a single folder called Map. In there are the folders flags and shields with all the requisite info. It seems clear that THIS Gfx folder is for Aberration itself.

I think the question at this point is what is the purpose of the other Gfx folder. I can't simply move all the files from the aberration folder up one level as that will put the two Gfx folders into conflict. I think that the second abberration folder is all I need to play the game (I'm guessing of course). So, what is the purpose of the other Gfx folder? Where do I need to put it or is it just optional?

I honestly can't tell right now.. I'll hope that someone more currentkly active with Aberration steps up to the plate.

(My PC Abe doesn't have any Kaigon files from what I can tell - so I guess that one might be the lost one?)

AFAIK the gfx folder can be ignored, just put the second aberration folder where the first used to be :) (you'll not lose out on much if you really want to use it just put in the aberration that was previously in the first folder titled aberration).

To clarify, you should put the gfx folder in your second aberration folder (the one with all the stuff other in it) and that aberration folder should then be put directly into the eu2 datafolder.

Also I'm not sure if this is mac specific but when aberration loads a whole butload of monarchs and leaders are for some reason not succesfully included. If you want them you should save the game imidietly and then quit. Then you shall open the saved file in a text editor (I'd recomend bbedit myself) and add them manually from the respective files.
If you don't know how to do this don't bother the game will play fine without them (but some nations will be vastly underpowered compared to what they're supposed to be).

Ouch, that's frustrating. Any idea what monarches/leaders do get included, so we might be able to track down the point of failure?

I think I can write a program which will work around this, which I'll post in the forums when I have time to write it.

Well, I would love to try this mod, but I still can't get this question answered. Maybe I'm trying too hard or perhaps it doesn't matter (I'm in the middle of a AGCEEP game now), but I've always thought this mod looked interesting. In my college classes I am always having the students play out the Counterfactual History game to increase their critical thinking skills. This looks and sounds like that.

But, if I can't get it loaded. . . .

Anyone?

Inside your 'EUII Data Files' folder, you should have a folder marked 'Aberration'. But you must have 'DB', 'Scenarios' and 'AI' directly inside that 'Aberration' folder. I believe the way Abe is currently packaged, you'll get a folder called 'Aberration' with another folder called 'Aberration' inside it. You need to discard the outer Aberration folder and put the inner one directly into your 'EUII Data Files' folder. The 'GFX' folder also needs to go inside this inner Aberration folder, I believe.

See this thread for a list of missing leaders/monarchs, as well as a potential solution (haven't had time to test it yet). http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=185875

And aberration is definatly a lot of fun (though it depends a bit on what nation you chose, as all of them aren't as thouroughly done). I especially like playing Byzantium with it's many dynastic choices :)
