I'm using the Game Pass version and Windows doesn't let me open, edit, or move any asset files. For example, if I try to open "heightmap.png" from the game/map_data folder with any software, it stops me with an "Access was denied to the requested file" error. It's also doing that to some text files like .txt, .json, etc... I've tried to set full permissions to the folders, to no avail.

Is it supposed to do that, or is it just Microsoft shenanigans? I've never had any problems with CK2 files.

That's MS I'm afraid, the WindowsApps folder is extremely tightly locked down. it is possible to get to it; I had to google for quite some time before I finally got past it.

That's terribly unfortunate...
It's possible to get to the windowsapps folder but seems basically impossible to take ownership of the actual game files for CK3. This is terrible for mod support.
Same here. WindowsApps is easy to unlock, but the game folder itself is tightly locked.
I'm not an expert on Windows ownership stuff, so I'm completely stuck here. Such terrible Microsoft DRM, what's even the purpose of locking game files?
