The sikh empire technically exists during the game's time period and it would be a cool objective for players who switch to sikh. it would also be an interesting alternative to Bharat. The empire's national ideas could include boosts to morale, infantry CA and discipline.

I would love some more reasons to play Sikh, but could you provide some sources (at least wiki) and information about the sikh empire

It is already in the game, called Punjab.
Make it a formable nation can be interesting, I agree.

In EU4 India is mostly an alternate history - game after game. The period saw the decline of Sultanates, Accession and decline of Mughals, Accession and decline of Maratha and Sikh and finally the British. There is a natural process where indegenous culture and way of life slowly unbinds the shackles of foreign rule over centuries. There are definite reasons for Maratha & Sikh accessions other than just conquest.

This region needs scores of more country tags (HRE like). The Sultanates somehow are too stable. In reality, once Lodis come to power in Delhi, the centralized military and adminstrative structure of the sultanate sould be severed. More or so with other sultantes as well. Similar decetralized political tendencies after 1707 advancing decline of Mughals. And a decentralized feature though out the subcontinent till the British unified it, thats why even an empire like states were confederacies. Confedracy like structure were more common after the decline of Rajput power in 13th century and only kept on increasing. They would surface anywhere and everywhere the moment, the central power like Delhi-Bengal Sultananes, Vijay-Bahman, Mughals -Maratha would grow weak and weaker.

Entire Indian region needs to be reworked to make it al least 30% historical.

A disaster leading to a centre of reformation for Sikh? What would be the trigger conditions? (unfortunately, I can't contribute anything here)

Why disaster? As it currently stands, random Indian provinces flip to Sikh some time after the games start.
The concept of the Sikh religion forming and spreading seems almost identical to Europe where the Protestant and Reformed religion flips provinces trough the reformation centers. Obviously having 3 centres for Sikhs would probably be too much. Just scrap the primitive events that randomly flip provinces and spawn a religious centre after a certain date.

The event that spawns Sikh could just create a centre of reformation. It alredy gives the province the -5% conversion religius centre modifier.

Making Punjab a formable Sikh nation has the problem of Punjab being, well, Punjabi. That is it's the primary nation for Punjabi culture. It may be better to just add a new culture-neutral tag.

Persia is a formable nation with Persian primary culture and Persian cores existing in 1444...not sure why Punjab would be problematic as a formable nation.

That said, Sikh is unfortunately one of the most terrible religions in the game. Pathetic conversion potential, lackluster direct benefits, temporary and not amazing guru bonuses leave it on par with the likes of Animist, Totemist, Judaism and Zoroastrian....easily the worst religions in the game (weak converters with limited direct benefits easily outclassed and then some by faiths that convert well and offer more). It even spends the last 100+ years w/o guru bonuses :/.

A few suggestions on the matter:

1. Name: Sikh Khalsa Raj
- Equivalent of Bahrat and Hindustan
If you are not an empire or if tribe your government becomes:
- Sarkar Khalsaji: Unique Republic
+10% Manpower -15% AE +5 States -30% Absolutism
Under this government leaders are elected for life
Candidates quality is effected by corruption and khalsa integrity
Misi faction require 50% of all provinces

If Empire:
- Sarkar-I-Khalsa: Standard government

2. Factions
- Misi
Influence: - Cavalry cost
Loyalty: + Tax modifier
- Granthi
- Merchants

3. Rise of the Misi
Shotgun distribution
The futher away from the reformation center the bigger chance of sikhs there are
Priority:
1. Same area as the Reformation center province
2. Adjecent provinces to the area
3. Areas in the same region
4. Regions adjecent to the original region
5. Etc.
Spread is limited to the supercontinent where the reformation center is located
Instead of a province immiedietly becoming sikh the province gains sikh community modifier
After a while these communities may convert the province via event the futher away from the center the longer time it takes
After a while the Sikh will rise up in the main are after the Sikh Khalsa Raj has been established Sikh religous provinces in non-sikh countries become cores for the SKR
The uprising does not occur if the SKR if formed by an allready existing state

4. Decisions
- Prohibit Halal slaughter
+10 Sikh integrity
-1 Tolerance towards heathens
-20 relations with muslim nations

- Abolish the caste system
+5 Sikh integrity
-1 Tolerance towards heretics

- Construct the Golden temple
+1 Tolerance towards the true faith

- Found the Akali
+5% Shock damage

- Consolidate the confederacy
Available if Sarkar Khalsaji government
Become standard government

- Take the Amrit Sanchar
+1 Prestige yearly

5. Events
Successor of Guru
Formation of the Khalsa

6. Mechanics
+1 Tolerance towards heathens

Integrity of the Khalsa
Low integrity
+ Religous unity

High integrity
- +Tolerance towards the true faith
- +Army morale
- -Monthly autonomy

7. NIs

Traditons
+2 Tolerance towards heretics
+50% Cavalry flanking ability

Ambitions
+1 Army tradition

- Mali Akhara
+10% Institution spread

- Martyrdom of the Gurus
+5 Discipline

- Unite the Misi
+10% National Tax modfier

- Idiosyncratic society
+1 Tolerance towards heathens
+1 Possible advisors

- The pure Brotherhood
+10% Manpower
+10% Army morale

- Abolish the Zamindar system
-1 Unrest

- Panj Pyare
+1 Tolerance towards the true faith

Last I checked forming Persia was based on culture not religion and it changed your culture to Persian, so it being a primary nation was not an issue in any way. On the other hand, forming Punjab as say, Vijayanagara that turned Sikh (I remind you that all Hindu nations can convert to Sikh) would be at least weird because it would either have to make you Punjabi or would leave Punjabi culture without a primary nation.

Not weird at all. You could indeed do those things, though forming Punjab specifically would make sense to also require being in that culture group. I wasn't thinking of other former Hindus forming it while in Iranian or Bengali or something and somehow magically falling into Punjab's culture group. To do that more reasonably would require a new tag (like Hindustan or Bharat but for Sikh), otherwise requiring same group --> move primary to Punjabi like how it works for Persia makes more sense.

1, They called it the Sikh Khalsa Raj so there is a name

2. Its only reasonable if you restrict the formation center appearing to Punjab provinces

I'd prioritize giving Sikh religion a reason to exist before doing anything for Sikhs.

Why would anyone pick Sikh? It offers no flavor, barely no events, and no mechanics, and you're stuck between two of the more powerful religions in the game: Muslims and Hindus. It's just pointless!

Yes, it would be useful if Sikh weren't a false choice. Guru stuff has no agency AND is generally weak. Sikh is a bad religion overall, worse still since immediately available alternatives are stronger to the point where you have to actively harm yourself to swap into a weaker religion. No thanks.
