I know there's a "More character names" thread, but that's for first names. does Paradox plan to add more surnames to the game?

I can think of several off the top of my head that deserve consideration, not the least of which being the Hohenzollerns, who became electors of Brandenburg during the late CK time period, and originally were Grafs from the early 1200s.

Also, the Grimaldis, who ruled Genoa in the early 12th century, Leaders of the French navy, and rulers of Provence. In fact, they ruled Monaco from the early 1300s and do still today..

I'm sure we can think of many others that would be useful to add, as it's irritating seeing so many "of Provincename" courtiers. :(

I think they can be added in futures patch if you help.

I don't have the game yet, since I dont have a credit card. I was very happy to hear that there are twelve or thirteen provinces in Ireland now, as opposed to five in EU2. :) I will certainly buy CK as soon as it is released in local stores.

Anyway, i was shocked when my friend told me the Irish O'Mórdha (Moore) dynasty was not in the game. they were one of the most famous clans in Irish history, up until the attempted genocide by the English, which happened after the ck game ends.

Beginning in the 11th century, the Annals cite the Ua Mórdha (O'More, Moore) as chiefs of Laíghisi. They are later represented by the 'Seven Septs of Leix', i.e. O'Moore, O'Kelly, O'Deevy, O'Doran, O'Lalor, O'Dowling and McEvoy. As legend and history cite, this confederation began after the 3rd century CE, when the family group that would become the O'Mores came from Ulster to Leinster under the leadership of Laoighseach Cean More, son of Connall Cearnach of the Red Branch, and helped to defend Leinster under the kingship of Cu chorb, and expelled the Munster forces from the region. They continued to hold principality over what became Leix (Laois), so named after Laoighseach, and this confederation continued through the Elizabethian wars of the 1500's.

the O'Mórdha dynasty should spawn in the provinces of laigin and osraige... or, if you want, you can have them in ulster as well, since thats where they came from.

There was at least one king of leinster during the CK time period who was a member of this dynasty, iirc.

Its a very easy processes to customize names for existing provinces and dynasties. I have changed the names of quite of few ... the one I usualy play has my own family name, small vanity there :)

There are also I believe a few tags open to add custom dynasties though that would mean removing titles/provinces from existing dynasties to start with.

But if you just want to go through and change all the "of province" type names its very possible.

Yeah. I have no problem changing things for myself, but in a MP game, it sucks to have one person see one thing, while another sees things differently.

To me, my dynasty could be von Hohenzollern, but to someone else it's von Cilli ;)

Ok, here's the easy way to add dynasties(there are THOUSANDS of open slots for dynasties):

Open dynasties.txt in the db folder of CK

Copy the following entry at the bottom of the list

Code:
dynasty = {
	id = { type = 12 id = 1 }
	name = ""
	province = { }
}

Change the id to something in the 60000 range

Put a name between the "'s

Look at Daywalker's wonderful map here to come up with the provinces you believe that family inhabited and put the province numbers between the brackets with spaces between the if you have more than one

Save the file.

If you start a new game, random courtiers will spawn in that/those provinces with the dynasty name you just made.

[BTW, there's a Hohenzollern dynastie (12476), and I'm sure I saw one of them once or twice...)
