I posted this in GD forum and several folks told me to bring this discussion over here so here goes.

My goal is to lower the sizes of the armies in EU.

There are two ways to do this:

1. Increase the build cost per unit and/or
2. Increase the monthly maintenance cost

My initial thought was to make an army more expensive to buy but several posters mentioned making the monthly upkeep cost higher. I'm not sure what the results would be doing either or both but I'd be curious to do so.

How would one go about making these adjustments- if it can be done?

Or one could make general income lower and so decrease army size. laurebnt has done that and I'm xure he'll tell u all about it once he catches this thread. OR not, in that case better look for a thread by him urself ;)

Hi Sydney

1) will create problems with nation having yet the maximum cost (A) and those with B costs... i'm sure adaptation for some nations are possible but I don't think it's a general solution

2) impossible ( hard coded unfortunatly)

My solution has been to lower the tax revenues. But as one thing has in EU several consequences, i've been forced to do some other little changes... :) named Real EU 3.0.

Most unfortunate. How does lower the revenues work? Does that make manufacturies almost impossible to get and also how does it affect tech levels?

I just grabbed Real EU 3.0 but am still dithering about on installing it.

My experience is that it is a lot harder to save up for the big expenses like a manufactory. But, hey, it isn't the industrial revolution! It hasn't been a problem, nor, so far as I can tell, a problem for the ai.

What about diplomacy? I spend a lot of cash making friends becuase of the diplomacy system that works towards -200. I gather this lowered income will really crimp that- or has that been adjusted as well?

I too spend money to compensate for the -200 relationship trend.

To tell the truth, I haven't played enough to know. Before these changes, though, I only spent a lot of money on diplomacy when my economy was doing very well (good CoT, whatever). I presume that will still be the case.
