what fixed it for me, is I looked in my player.log file - saw an error like "failed to load autosave 14-05-1" - I went into my saves folder and deleted it. it was an old save from months ago so I dont know why it suddenly caused this issue. meh - its working again now.

worth noting as well, the log file contains many warnings, which dont appear to make much difference to running the game, ignore them. However actual errors appear to be fatal.

I tried to but couldn't find it
I see, so you haven't followed the steps in the guide so far. Then we'll start with the first step. Go ahead and press WIN + R on your PC, paste this in the text field

C:\Users\%username% \AppData\LocalLow\Colossal Order\Cities Skylines II

and press enter. Then look for the Player.log file (might also just be called "Player"). Then follow the guide and look for broken saves.

I've tried but it says nothing matches the search.

I didn't press WIN + R because I don't know what that means
Your keyboard has a Windows key, with the Windows Symbol on it. When in File Explorer hold that key down and hit the R key with the other hand. Paste this string into the box you then see:

C:\Users\%username% \AppData\LocalLow\Colossal Order\Cities Skylines II
