AGCEEP vs. AoI & MyMap vs. WatK

So I've come back to EUII from EUIII after just getting pissed off at the lack of history and correct events in it (curse you Paradox!) and I've noticed that there were a lot of ppl like me who came back to make EUII even better.

I see there were a whole bunch of options. I've played AGCEEP before I loved all their events, but the AoI lets you play from 1337. How do these compare?

Another exciting development were the new maps. MyMap seemed much more detailed allowing for a lot of play in a small region say... the Aegean Islands (4 provinces) but many ppl on these forums say WatK is much better.

There is currently a AGCEEP-WatK out, so I'm playing that, but I also heard there was a AGCEEP-MyMap which I can't seem to find. Also MyMap seemed to be abandoned with the sceenies not showing up, etc.

Also DOES ANYONE know if the AGCEEP crew is actually working on their new map? I mean they keep telling us, it'll come out when it's ready, but I just want to know if they are active on working on it. No need to keep false hopes up, if they killed the project.

As for the map by AGCEEP team, your guess is as good as anyone's... IIRC, it's been 2 years already, and the only thing revealed were some map images "in progress".




Personally, I prefer MyMap, as Europe is more detailed, and TI is not so "uncovered" as in WATK.

That links it just to the MyMap Meta thread that just gives me MyMap alone (not AGCEEP with it). Do I just download MyMap into my AGCEEP folder replacing the Map folder there?

Also I read that MyMap only contains a 2 year old version of AGCEEP 1.39 or something while ExtraWatk has the newer 1.54 is this true?

AGCEEP (at least, some earlier version of it - I think it's 1.39) is incorporated into MyMap. Download version 1.65 of MyMap and there will be events from AGCEEP in it, you don't have to change anything.

About AoI - this mod has vanilla events + those covering 1337-1419 and 1819-1914 + some new for 1419-1819. I can recommend it, I've always liked it .

And still "in progress" but Garbon surely doesn't count hours he already spent on it.

AGCEEP (at least, some earlier version of it - I think it's 1.39) is incorporated into MyMap. Download version 1.65 of MyMap and there will be events from AGCEEP in it, you don't have to change anything.

"Earlier" as in "very old" version. It's been 2 years already.

ExtraWATK is another mod using a new map (World according to Kasperus) with AGCEEP adapted events (1.51, end of 2006 for the version).

Be aware we release a new version of AGCEEP every two months or so with an impressive changelog each time (see here for next 1.55 version in progress).


Anyway, there is room for very good EU2 mods. Europa Portugalis is also in the list for max AI tweaks and Interregnum for alternative feeling.

Got it. I think after downloading these mods and maps, the best of them are: MyMap (love the new provinces, now Italy has the room it needs, the Eastern. Med. Islands are a beauty) and AGCEEP.

AGCEEP 1.39 for MyMap is a bummer.. is there a substantial quality difference? I mean AGCEEP project started in what 2002? If 1.39 is playable then I'd be happy until AGCEEP Map comes out, though from the images I'll really miss those Italian provinces and the Eastern Med. Islands (like Lesbos/Samos) damn.

I do get these 3 error messages for MyMap-AGCEEP about monarch IDs when I start it up.

And Interregnum will also be adopting the AGCEEP map when it is ready. (Oh, Please Garbon, let it be soon ...). I have converted across all the .inc files and I am working on the event files.

I have never tried MyMap or WatK but both have cool things about them. Personally, as far as province distribution and areas detailed, AGCEEP is my preferred map, so when it does become available, this will be a beautiful addition.

Maybe just play with all of them!

Of course 1.39 version of AGCEEP events is playable but you will miss two years of improvements and I can assure you these two years were the most important for bugfixing... and overall improvement and additions were not forgotten thanks to all contributors. Guess where my more than 13,000 posts are located in majority and see my Join Date...

Never experienced any problems with MyMap at startup...

And 1.39 on MyMap doesn't mean that you can't play it. It's still the best (in my opinion) of all map mods, and still there are lots of events for most of the playable countries.

Ah, and if you wanted to play Aberration on a new map, see my signature . It's been adapted for WATK. It's still a work-in-progress, but worth a try I think - there's been quite a lot of changes in the country setup and numerous new events have been added for various countries, like Bulgaria. Or Bohemia.

AoI doesn't have nearly as many events as AGCEEP - but it has a lot more scenarios (about 12 in total iirc), added timeframe (with new countries, leaders, monarchs and events for the added timeframe) and some new graphical elements.

MyMap is dead probably… so it is not updated anymore. I would be pleased to continue to work on it (and perhaps to redraw it in many parts), but I am absolutely incompetent in working with EU2 map files etc. Perhaps with some help on this part I would return to it.

Considering that WATK is updated all the time, it is more fun and playable of course now.

It's too bad MyMap is dead. Looks like I'll have to try move all the latest AGCEEP files into the MyMap files and adjust the province tax values myself.

The new AGCEEP map they are producing is a disappointment to me. It lacks detail in parts of the map I love. mainly Italy. Also MyMap with its realistic borders is wonderful.
