Hi everyone and welcome to a new segment we would like to call "Faction Spotlight"!

During a couple of weeks, we will focus on Vanguard in both videos, text and Dev Diaries. After that, the rest of the factions will follow.

Please see this as an opportunity to learn more about your favorite faction and prepare for the battle to come.

Find the first video for Vanguard here:

I hope you will join us in exploring all the different factions in Age of Wonders: Planetfall!

Cheers,
Emma

C'mon guys, put some wings on that Valkyrie.

Holding out that Drone Carrier on us. Wise. ;)

I figured the Valkyrie was their sole melee unit, but I wasn't sure if that was a melee weapon, relatively more appropriate for a Valkyrie to wield, or a long-rifle, in the tech/build windows.

My guess is, the Valkyrie is a natural progression of the Jetpack Unit Mod coming at tech tier 4, except suped-up such that it has a Lesser Flying type ability(ala AoW 3), rather than a on-cooldown ability. Either way, it's great to see the Vanguard having at least the one melee unit in their roster.

I like how elements of the vanguard army keep showing up in the post fall human factions, like how the bulwark is a bootleg walker and the amazons using laser melee weapons like the valkyrie uses. Adds a bit of depth to the setting, letting us see how technology has changed since the fall.

Great video! Including of the animation, gameplay, and awesome sm and tc landscapes also whomever is making those particles are doing a fantastic job, really like the drop pods and initial ship landing, but also the more subtle heat haze coming off those gunships. Its all the detail!

One of the new mechanics im most excited about is the terrain overlay effects on tiles, eg smoke bombs, poisonus gas etc, i finally can see it possible to add in shallow trenchs to the game.

A unit has a touch ability dig trench > a ground overlay of modelled trench with normals to give it some depth > unit then walks on tile gives full cover bonus against range.

Also any heavy explosives causes to the map could be made to have craters in that area, giving light cover.

Placing catltrops ans landmines to hinder vehicles and large units. Really this mechanic thier boundless possibilities!

The animations are still under construction - this has always been the weak point of the series - but casually, it gives a good overview of Planetfall. It must be remembered that this is the first time that Triumph has left its medieval universe for science fiction, and for the moment, everything seems rather successful.
