I received a notification of Agrivaine's availability--or so I thought--after completing the first battle. However, I can't find him anywhere, now. Was he supposed to be added to William's troops automatically? And if not, where might he be?

I think he is added to the reserve. You can either recruit him when you get the notification, or go back to your castle and recruit him there.
