AI Empire Suddenly surrenders and I get nothing?!

I am fighting an Empire AI early game, I am in control and invading his planets and all of a sudden I get a message they surrender we win and get nothing for the win?!

What kind of BS is that?

I am fighting a war to get land/territory and I cant claim anything, my prize is 10 years of waiting for another try at a bug?

Did you set your war goals before you declared war on them? You cannot take more than you specify as your wargoals.

When you reach a warscore over the cost of what you demanded when you declared war the AI tends to surrender and give you it especially when they've ran out of military. This stops tedious slogs of trying to complete prerequisites for something you're obviously going to manage (for example take the planet you are demanding).

If you haven't set your war goals to what you wanted then it isn't a bug. It just you being a dipshit
