Using the US airborne for example- on D-Day everyone knows they were dropped all over the place, initially completely scattered, and forced to consolidate and eventually regroup.

Why not mimick that with airborne battle groups in game?

While this would obviously require some unit adjustments, allow Airborne units to deploy ahead of the initial deployment zone. I wont say "anywhere" because I can see some issues, but allow limited number of AB units to be positioned on most of the map ahead of time. That would ACTUALLY allow the AB unit's ability of fighting behind enemy lines to come into play.

In my head, I see the AB battlegroups being reworked so A phase is mostly wrecking behind the lines chaos, and not till B actually being able to form a solid defensive line.

Idk, id just love to see some truly Airborne type operations take place.

This game takes place after the Airborne have re-gouped into there division sized fighting force. the 101st was only scattered for a week or so after the main drop, this game takes place mid offensive aside from 1 or 2 maps. Not really fitting with the game. Would be fun but would have to be a singleplayer thing.

Forward deployment are also in total war, but only available to a few units.
it makes sense that any airborne unit that cannot effect front line should be able to do this, but there should be a small additional cost for deploying them this way.

God this is the last thing this game needs, airborne decks becoming even more OP and a nuisance

Expand the initial deployment zone. Take away their Phase A vehicles and heavy equipment and use Phase A like a "recon in force" phase for Airborne. What you get is all those paras with just MG's and mortars having to leg it but not being able to really move the map much. It does allow them to make some nice defensive areas early, but they don't even have AT in Phase A.

It's something I've tested with decks and I modded out vehicles (although I only tested it on AT guns). It's interesting and could make a bit cooler, but I'm subjective because it's a bit more historical and hardcore of a game.

However, if my testing was ever put into the game, I wouldn't give 3rd FSJ the same ability. I'd give the German static and Infantry division as well as Luftlande the option to deploy leg infantry and smaller stuff in Phase A.

Every other division in the mod I had planned would just be recon in Phase A and some limited Infantry.

But no one plays this shit and Eugen doesn't care about overhauls (never did in Red Dragon anyway) so checking that you can deploy stuff without a vehicle and moving units around in decks to see how Recon-Only Phase A would work is as far as I got.

Best possible answer, it just wouldn´t make sense. They didn´t went back in their planes and get dropped again and again behind the frontline.

Well, a bigger problem is that if they allowed it due to the AB being airborne, surely the Axis should be allowed to deploy anywhere on the map? They were kind of there even before the paratroopers ....

That just sounds annoying and bad for the gameplay. Even if the AB/FJ divisions become weakened a feature like this is going to strongly favor pre-made teams, with one player deploying scouts across the map and spotting everything for his teammates. The Total War games are completely different from this, so that's not a valid comparison.

Wouldn't be much fun for the airborne player to have no arty, no offboard support, no air, no vehicles and limited to no more than a dozen unit cards.

Payback time for everyone else though.

So it's a big yes from me...

Allied didn´t had much stuff there too and the frontline was long. In phase B you receive the stuff you need because you have the airport. :)

And I´m absolutly fine without air, offmap and arty support.
