So how awesome would it be to have Paratroopers in this game? Kinda like the airborne Infantry in the wargame's siries that was deployed from choppers.

Just now when you deploy them you can't just pull em out if you regret! I hope they add this!

What do you guys think?

it will be possible to play the 101st Airborne , i think we will see Paratroopers in the game.
I think they will be expensive and its become risky when Germans have good Anti-Air.

Yes, I think seeing paratroopers will certainly be a likely possibility in this game. I wonder if "elite" units will come into play in this game. Costing more, but essentially being an upgraded and more trained force. I also agree with @Fortes241, they will likely be very expensive; it's quite vital to make sure there is no AA where you'll be dropping them.

Afaik they implemented a mechanic similar to the veterancy system in wargame. you can call in units at different veterancy levels (which includes "elite") at different costs. I probably read this in the PC Gamer preview.

Paratroopers yes, but i don't think they will make their landing on the map.
Maybe gliders, but in Wargame paradrops were always seen as a strategic asset and with that out of the tactical scale.

Technically speaking, they could make it work with this game, just have it as part of the deployment phase, have a "you want to drop in troops" part where you press what you want dropping in at what timeframe, cannot be changed, cannot be cancelled during the battle. It would be pretty cool imo, no "instant call support", you would need to plan ahead with your team so that your air drop doesnt land on top of the enemy army because somebody pushed way to hard to early or something. Gets around the strategic asset argument a little bit because 1 does plan to at least attempt to reach the airdrop guys before they are gunned down lol.

Or just give some forces which are paratrooper types the ability to "deploy anywhere in the middle at the start of the game", giving early strong ground, but without support they are alone.

If Paratroopers land on the map, there are some problems:

1. Paratroopers need a big and slow plane (faster plane= bigger Dropzone) easy for German anti-air and interceptors.
2. they cant land in a forest or in a city, they need a huge field without Cover possibilities.
3. they would land on different positions in the drop-zone and needs to get together.

i see two options how to use them:
1. at the beginning, to capture important strategic points and citys.
2. For quick reinforcement.

i know 3 big airborne missions in the 2 WW.
1. Germany -> Kreta (Greece) = it was a disaster
2. USA (101 Airborne) -> Normandy = it was a disaster
3. USA (101 Airborne) -> Market Garden = it was a disaster

If it is something as iconic as Normandy you need to have Paratroopers. Probably not as a call-in-unit via a C-47 flying into the map but maybe as a unit that you can deploy at the beginning of the match.

That would be the most CoH thing ever to happen in a Paradox game, and it'd probably make me cry.

Fallschirmjäger-Regiments will be surely ingame. But more like heavy infantry. I think, same like in Wargame, that you do not have parachuting platoons on this tactical scale

Thats why i said in the Deployment phase and not having C-47 flying over the map. The Deployment phase in Wargame is just selecting the units from your deck with which you are staring the match before it will start and the shooting begins

One thing you could do is allow airborne players simply deploy their units on the map ahead of the mechanized forces during the deployment phase, assuming there is a deployment phase at all. This would represent them already being in the area when the ground forces arrive, and would fit into their niche of early game strength.

That´s what i meant but in wargame you have a Deployment Zone where your units start so maybe airborne gets a bigger one?

I played Wargame a couple times before, my dude. Yes, extending the airborne deployment zones up to, say, a third of the map (so two thirds of the way to the frontline) would give them enough of an advantage to take an early position without causing paratroopers and fallschirmjäger to spawn on top of each other. It really depends on how mobile the airborne battlegroups are compared to infantry riding around in halftracks.

I'm not gonna be bothered if they don't model actual para drops and just allow for forward deployment. Sure, we'll miss the whole 'C-47's flying through flak' bit, but as far as gameplay is concerned, it isn't important.

I DO think we must have some sort of airborne resupply capability, though. Like just have the supply drops treated like FOBS in Wargame. Maybe have small jeep supply trucks for the airborne forces since they could be carried in the gliders. Have the supply planes capable of being shot down and the supply drops should be pretty small, but still vital for those units cut off behind the line.

UK developed specific universal carriers for doing just that in gliders, so I wouldnt be suprised to see it (i mean, it makes the game more interesting and allows for paratroops to do what they are supposed to do, be surrounded and hold out). Though if its a thing, i would love to have tetrarchs inside the gliders too :D

I think extending the deployment zone is the best way to do it. Otherwise, they'll have no advantage at all beyond trained infantry vs. any other kind of formation. No significant armor, no heavy artillery, no halftrack APCs.

What i could imagine would be the ability to spawn outside of the map and then sneak into the enemy side to flank or harass during the game and they cant go back outside of the map. But this is the only other thing i could imagine if they want something special for during the match.

the pcgamer article mentions that the first of 3 battle phases has paras strong in the first phase and weak in the third when other divisions big guns come in. A screenshot also has gliders.
