I few AAR I have been reading have used aircraft alot. I seem to be unable to duplicate their results and I hardly build CAS.

Anyway I have read that aircraft have been nerfed to some exent in armageddon compared to doomsday. Also do really good players micromanage alot. Sometimes I keep my interceptors at airfields and only send them on air superiority missions when there are enemy aircraft nearby as opposed to giving them air superiority missions for a month or so. Using CAS and tac bombers is easy enough but how about fighters, interceptors and nav bombers? How do you sink ships with nav bombers in arm 1.3? Port strikes seem to reduce the port level and not do alot to the ships involved.

In DD air rarely took casulties from the ground. Which is why in Remble's AAR he was able to hold back the red horde as Japan.

NAVs are great against ships but depends what model they are ;). The first model has the same naval attack as CAS (1938 model IIRC), their greatest asset is their range. Your problem might be either attacking during rain or night or their are CVLs in the navy. Against CV's NAVs are amazing but don't expect them to be as decisive as naval battles, you may have to use several bombing runs to destroy the fleet.

Port strike really isn't very good and you seem to take a lot more casualties when doing port strikes. However port strike is hugely effective against screens and transports because of their lower defence.

Yes you have to micromanage a lot to get the most effectiveness out of your planes. For example using 1 INT IV, to do naval strikes (they have very high detection) which finds the enemy fleets and then having all available aircraft look for the enemy fleet in that area and hopefully bombing it till death :)

So Rembles AAR wouldn't work on Armageddon? His wasn't the only I've been looking at. I seem to have trouble intercepting bombers and the interceptors get shot to crap and back.

Interceptors work fine for me, but since ARM 1.3b I can't never make profit of ground attack with TACs and CAS, whenever they go on a mission they always get shot pretty badly and it isn't cost effective.

Put it this way - In DD I would build 6 wings of 4 squadrons of TAC at the beginning of the war and keep them through the whole time, and hardly ever take casualties. Now, I've got to replace a squadron or two about every 6 months to a year due to my inability to care enough to micromanage them.

Thanx for the replys everyone and keep the advice coming. I just started a game as Germany on Very Hard and its kinda like playing one of my naval AARs, just you don't really get the navy part (although I have a heavy cruiser SAG and a few lvl II subs bwa ha ha). I was wondering if its worth building aircraft although I'm building a single line of int and CAS.

Only ever ground attack when they're retreating and don't attack armies of 9 divisions or greater or you will start to suffer huge amounts of casualties from your planes. You can use interdiction if you feel that a battle isn't going the best for you but even using interdiction on troops that aren't moving will cause annoying casulties.

OK thanx. I'm playing a game on VH as the Soviets and zee Germans. I often neglect my airforce as both sides and build a few more panzers to encircle them or swamp them with sheer numbers.

Interesting recent game I had was with Japan using unescorted tac bombers. Stabbed the USSR in the butt when Germany invaded and had a year long march through asia reaching the Volga before the BP even fired and I got sent back to the far east. Airforce done alot of killing with ground attack and I was dropping airbases along the way. I hardly escort my tac bombers except maybe as Germany and I hardly use CAS at all. A armageddon 44 Germany or Japan game would be harder than Rembles AAR's due to aircraft being nerfed and as the Germans the Hitler assaissination event always gets me (+10% dissent).

You never attack against 5-6 divisions on more, but...
You can still have a CAS death star bomb 3 divisions to oblivion within a week.

Only drawback is this: When you order your squadrons to interdict on an area you attack 3-4 divisions, and after you win the battle, the planes take off to bomb a superstack of 40. Before you noticed it, you have one squadron less and one more with strength 30%.
In Iron cross the problem is solved: planes attack single province! (though sometimes the provinces are too small to point them with your mouse)

I think that problem is solved in AoD as well and it is incredibly annoying :/

Zardnaar you should really try to use CAS especially as Germany. They're cost for attack is better than any aircraft you can field and even the first models have huge amounts of attack. The naval attack is the same as NAVs at the first model which makes them effective for bombing the Channel if UK gets a bit too overconfident. They do disappear rather quickely if they meet some INTs though :p, but it's rare for the AI to care about air superioty

Its just I never feel like I need htem as Germany at least on normal difficulty. I also tend to build massive navys as Germany (X6 BC or BB in 36) so there is very little IC left over for CAS. A smallish and obsolete army is sufficent to overrun Poland and France and by Barbarossa I'll have rearmed. Big navy lets you Sealion in 40 and invade the USA in 42.

A big army+airforce lets you crush the French and Poles that much easier and is good vs the Soviets but you won't have much in the water before 43 or so. I just use overrun and encirclements instead- or build tac bombers.

Thanx everyone. Figured out how to abuse aircraft in ARM now after a 3 year trek through the USSR with Italy. Think I sunk most of the royal navy in port as well. Still can't use interceptors very well though. Had a similar game as Japan heading west.

You don't need much in the water though. The starting ships with maybe a BB or 2 and spamming air force is much easier than having to build a proper navy and worried that it might meet a super death stack of USN carriers

The German navy of death is probably the mos efficient uses of resources the German have in terms of getting the game over the fastest with the USSR, USA and UK annewed around 1942. If you come across USN carriers you rip them apart.

one thing that helps in any version of HOI:
soooo tempting to field 1 INT or 1 FTR for each of your kickass sup tacticians... dont do this! Use your air superiority units in stacks of FOUR, this is a must since im sure you all have noticed the AI sends pretty much all of its FTR in one giant stack. your one-two FTR units just get batted down like gnats.
Everyone envisions all of your fighter aces as lvl 7 air marshals...too hard! Instead you can level your guys by just letting them run bomber squadrons for 6 months or so to exp up , air sup missions get experience way too slow to rely on totally.
