Well, this was bound to happen. Rome and Rhodes can be friends under one banner... yours!

Agreed, Rome would make excellent ser... friends. Yes, friends... Once they accept Rhodes as their rightful masters, of course.

Rhodes stretches from Italy to Greece to Asia Minor now - maybe time to extend this from the Nile to the Danube ;)?
What a wonderful dream. ;)

True! Roma delenda est, Rhodos invictus! (*may or may not be linguistically correct, I have zero education in Latin :D )

Friends. Definitely. Friends. :D

Chapter XXI - The Rule of Epokillos Xerxids, Zoilos Mithridatids and Lysandros Demaratid
Gods. We are great! Rhodos are amazing!

First, Epokillos built up a sizeable force in Southern Italy.

Then Zoilos enlarged it even more.

Then I swooped in and got all the glory!

Ahem.

Rome were weak. We were strong. The gods ordained it so. I, Lysandros, merely used the opportunity given by fate.

Soon, Rome itself fell to our invincible forces. Loads of slaves were taken. A good day for Rhodes.

Then, peace.

Feel the tranquility.

Naturally, as is Rhodian custom, we were merciful in victory.

And so my watch ended.

I suppose this means Petrarch will have to say all history is but a glorification and praise of Rhodes now! :p

I guess Dante's Divine Comedy will have to be re-written too. "Oh mighty Rhodes, which made the world good."

I think how the last slice of Rome may end up being on the banks of the Garonne.

Vale Rome.

At least it was a merciful conquest!

Now that you have taken Rome, what will be next? Carthage? Alexandria? Babylon?

Or Rhodos, master of India?

Impressive.

It seems we've reached the point where some rulers are just there to build up gold and an army, and then another ruler gets the glory. Shows how big these conquests have become, really.

Now that is an army, even more an army with a state - and money of course, lots of money. Maybe Carthago will be delenda est (I too, had no education whatsoever in Latin), in a friendly gesture to the Romans for not sacking their city?

Haha, well that may be so in this timeline. :p

Hehe, they won´t be allowed back, that´s for sure.
Vale Rome.

At least it was a merciful conquest!
Very merciful.

Thanks. :) I had a basic plan for what I wanted to do once I took on Rome. Territory will be taken, but actually Carthage was not on my immidiate list. And the final goal was not territorially based at all. I wanted to try to make the republic of Rhodes mirror Rome when it came to the end of the game. That is, try to make a dictatorship. If you haven´t played the game, turns out that is very difficult. Did I make it? Wait and see. ;)
Exeunt Romani. As a budding empire rises, so another falls.
Yay us.:D

True. I actually hit the ceiling when it came to max stored gold at a later point.

Chapter XXII - The Rule of Menelaos Xerxids, Epokillos Xerxids and Machatas Demaratid
Rome. Rome was taken. The war was won, and now it was time to rebuild our country.

First Menelaos was elected Archon. He spent much time pacifying the lands, converting the populace to proper Rhodians.

YPiThsV.png

Then the dreadful populist Epokillos was elected. He is best forgotten.

cqYGUfP.png

Then I, Machatas, rose to the office of Archon. I knew Rome was a spent force. So was Macedon. But Macedon was heir to Alexander's Empire, and in control of some of Greece still. Macedon had to go. Besides, they are more or less constantly in civil war. Easy target.

In the end, there was no contest. They fought, they died, they lost. We left them with the barbaric north.

JagZqXw.png

And so my watch is ended.

And down goes Macedon again! Love the continued dismissal of the populist rulers by their successors.

Next war will be revisiting an old friend, yet still not. :p

Are the populists actually bad in I:R? Is there a big difference between them and other factions/factions in general?

Are the populists actually bad in I:R? Is there a big difference between them and other factions/factions in general?
Yes. They give a malus to power costs, +10%. The other factions give bonuses to various things. Populists are only good if you want a dictatorship.

By the way, after 27.5 hours, I've finished my first Imperator game, this one. :D So now I just have to focus on writing it up. ;)

What is Mare Nostrum in the Koine dialect of Rhodes?

Chapter XXIII - The Rule of Lysandros Demaratid
Well ahoy there! I'm Lysandros and I'm going to leave my mark! The gods are with a man like me.

NZT3T3F.png

I didn't waste any time; the Phryigan rebellion was getting stronger against their former masters, but still weak and vulnerable.

Soon, much of their Anatolian lands, and not the least Cyprus, were ours. Cyprus and Anatolia is perfect for where we should go next...

And so my watch has ended.
