This question is perhaps more applicable to Western Europe. When drawing on forces to war, has there been any discussion as to the loyalty and possible muliti-loyal vassals (those sworn to multiple lords for service) one may need to call upon? It seems cross loyalties of magnates as well as out and out refusals to participate should effect a dynasty head's ability to recruit. Thoughts?

Characters will have a loyalty, and yes noblemen can decide if support you or not with their armies.

It has also been said that vassals could be lured away to another court. How this would play out is not clear but would probably lead to armed conflict for the king to get back the lands previously held by the turn-coat vassal.:)

Yes, I guess in such a situation some kind of casus belli would be in order.

Indeed. In addition you should, if you feel powerful enough, be able to renounce any claims to suzerainity to set up a sovereign state...

You can't play a vassal Harvard, and I therefore doubt that you can become one without loosing the game.:) But the AI would have to be able to do this!:)

When I say "you" I ment any dynasty (including the AI)... ;)

Wether you can become a vassal or not is still an unanswered question...

well if you can play HRE dinasties, that are in fact all Vassals of the Emperor....

And well is not neither easy that a King can be made a vassal, except of the Emperor or the Pope.

surely you must be able to play vassals. K of Egnland was a vassal of france but he still acted indpedently. it cant be the same as vassals in EUII, that would be ahistorical.

But as King of England he was independent, he was vassal as Duke of Normandy

exactly, so imagine if he goes to war as K of England against France. he could hardly condemn himself as Count of Anjou or Duke of Normandy for doing so. As a vassal you should have major penalties inflicted on you if you side against your liege lord, regardless of the fact that you may hold lands that were not enfeoffed to that lord as well as those that are. consider the Count of Toulose who holds no allod land and hss two major fiefdoms are held in respect of the HRE and the King of France. this should limit his choices, but not his actual running of the estate.

I agree.

Consider also then the position of John, when he lost Normandy and Anjou not qua vassal but qua opposing king in a war with the French King.
