EDIT: The workaround works like a charm.

Hello!

I tend to play all my paradox games in windowed mode, where I set a custom resolution of the game such that it takes up most of my screen. This way I can see my task bar, and respond to notifications which flash the taskbar icon. (Please note that this is not the same as Window (fullscreen) mode that's already on offer.)

This seems to no longer be possible with the new launcher, which (as far as I can see) overwrites the settings.txt file with each launch?

I know how hard dynamic resizing is for games like these, but I would love the ability to set my custom resolutions before starting the game again!

Thank you!

Did you try the workaround of changing the windowed_resolution in pdx_settings.txt?

You sir, are a king amongst men.

I wish I had browsed the forums for longer before starting my thread now. Thank you again.

Hi Guys,
For me the workaround doesn't work. The game keeps resetting to the full screen mode and to the the resolution of the monitor, if I choose something that is not on the selectable list. I've also tried the settings.txt. I either go with the height of the monitor, or a much smaller one. In the first case, I cannot move it because the window header is off screen, and therefore I cannot position it, or it is much smaller.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
tai

Did you try to make the changes in pdx_settings.txt instead of settings.txt? If that doesn't work, can you post your pdx_settings.txt?

Yes I did. I started with the pdx_settings.txt.
When it was getting reset to fullscreen, I went to the settings.txt, as I noticed that the file has been recently updated. (I.e.: just a couple of minutes before).
Thanks for trying to help! :)

Do your changes to pdx_settings.txt get undone? My guess is that you broke the file format in some way. Can you please attach the pdx_settings.txt with your changes to this forum thread, so that I can have a look at it

Of course:

Code:
"Graphics"={
    "display_index"={
        value="0"
        version=0
    }
    "display_mode"={
        value="windowed"
        version=0
    }
    "fullscreen_resolution"={
        value="3440x1440"
        version=0
    }
    "windowed_resolution"={
        value="2200x1400"
        version=0
    }
}
"System"={
    "language"={
        value="l_english"
        version=0
    }
}

When I'm launching the launcher, all that changes is the windowed_resolution part, back to the fullscreen_resolution value.
It changes back before launching the game, when starting the launcher.

Oh. I didn't know that the windows version of the launcher does that. Maybe it is just with newer versions. It probably helps to remove the video settings from the launcher. For this you can replace the file settings-layout.json in your eu4 installation folder with the attached file(remove the extension .txt from it. I had to add it, because json files are not allowed on the forum). Then your changes to pdx_settings.txt don't get overwritten by the launcher.

Thanks, but it didn't work.
It still resets, but hides the graphics settings.

Meanwhile I resolved the root issue why I would have needed some extra screen space outside of EU4, therefore I no longer need to run it windowed.
Thanks for trying though! :)
