This my first AAR of my first HOI game, and I didn't really take notes. So I'm just gonna give a very long general summery and my impression of the game, which has so far lasted from 1936 to January 24th of 1941. It was played with the 1.01 patch.

I started of in 1936 America with a pitifully small army which I immediatly started to rapidly expand. I kept FDR And spread my reserarch around willy nilly, not really concentrating on anything.

Japan invaded Nationalist China after a couple of months. Communist China was crushed by the Nationals so fast I didn't even notice. Japan also declared war on the Neatherlands at about the same time. By mid 1937 Japan had conquered 2/3 of China leaving only the mountains of the west in Nationalist hands.
Strangly Japan only conquered half of Dutch Indonesia and then stopped. The parts that they did occupy did not even have rubber. Japan also occupied Dutch Suriname in South America!

Germany anschlused Austria in December of 1937 and annexed the Chezch part of Chezchoslovakia in March of 1938. On a side note my professor of German history at college was the son of the last ambassador to Chezchoslovakia from the Chinese nationals. His father was then then their ambasador to the Reich.

Italy annexed Ethiopia and Albania.

The Republicans beat the Nationals in Spain in 1937 and joined the Comintern.

The Allies, consisting of the British Empire, the French Empire and Poland declared war on the Axis on March 13, 1938. The Axis at the time consited of only Germany and Slovakia.

It went well for the Allies in the first week. The Poles and French conquered a couple of provinces each. But after a few weeks the Italians joined the Axis and invaded France from the South, and Germany invaded through Belgium. France capitulated after two months. Germany chose the Vinchy option and Italy got nothing for all its hard work.

The British asked me to join the Alliance at that time and I agreed. I Immediatly sent my Atlantic fleet under King to the North Sea and then the Baltic where after three battles I had sunk the entire German surface fleet.

However this didn't help Poland, which had suprisingly lasted four months before being annexed in its entirity by Germany. One province also went to Slovakia and one to Hungary which had joined the Axis after France fell. Belgium fell in early August and was annexed. It lasted that long because of the BEF and the RAF.

I couldn't really intervene decisivly beacuse while I had about 20 reinforced infantry divisions and 5 early light tank armoured divisions I had foolishly neglected to build transports!

So while I was building transports and mechenaized infantry divisions, the world went insane. Romania joined the Axis and on September 13 1938 the Axis declared war against the Comintern. Japan and Munchuko joined the Axis two months later. Strangely the Neatherlands did not join the Allies and Germany did not declare war on it even though they were still at war with Japan.

The small Spanish/German front in the Pyrenese has never moved an inch. The Germans took Minsk almost immediatly, but since then the front hasn't shifted more then a province ethier way. However an axis offensive through Romania reached deep in to the Caucasus before it was cut off in mid 1939. Lucikly for the Soviets, Japan was to busy fighting the British in China to invade Siberia.

The British totaly ignored Europe and Africa and launched an invasion of Japanese China from Burma with almost their entire army! They took all of southern China and linked up with Hong Kong! This has caused the Japanese to totally ignore me which is good since I am focused on Euope. There have been a couple of inconclusive naval battels and that's it. By mid 1940 the Japanese had regained their loses and invaded Burma. By 1941 they had conquered 2/3rds of it. However I took control of the Austrialian military in November 1940 and had it invade Japanese New Guinea.

Incredibly, despite the fact that the Soviets were locked in a life or death struggle with Germany it launched the Winter War on schedule in November of 1939! This caused Finland to jion the Axis. Sweden joined Finlands war against the Soviets in mid 1940 but did not jion the Axis. This front has seasawed back and forth wildly but at present (JAN41) is at the prewar border.

Around mid 1940 the Soviets broke through in Romania and anexed it. However the Axis counterattacked through Hungary and have taken back the Northwestern half of the country, which has been given to Hungary.

While all this was going down I had begun to transfer tropps to Europe in early 1939. I was going to intervene in Africa were the Italians were making inroads in British Egypt. But the Italians invaded Greece, which jioned the Allies so, I disembarcked two infantry and one mountain division in northern Greece and invaded Italian Albainia and conquered it in two weeks. Greece got the territory though. Aparently when you attack from a friendly nation that nation gets the land rather then you.

Yugoslavia has remained nuetral the whole time, but after much diplomatic action Bulgaria joined the Allies in January of 1941.

I left Grecce and then landed in Egypt with 9 division under Bradley and 7 divisions under Patton in September of 1939. Bradley had a mix of Infantry and Mech Infantry. Patton had a mix of early light and early medium tanks. All of my divisions are enhanced. By January of 1940 I had swept 18 Italian divisions into the sea, giving the Libyan coast to Britian and liberating French Tunisia. The desert gave me more trouble then the Italians, I discovered the reinforce button just in time.

I then began to prepare for an invasion of Italian proper.
I built up an army of 36 divisions in North Africa, 9 under Patton, 9 under Bradley, 9 under MacArthur and 9 under Eisinhowser. This was because I could only ferry across nine division at one time. Eisenhower had a mix of Infantry, Mech Inf and one armoured division. MacArthur had a mix of marines, mech inf and two armoured divisions. Patton had another armoured dvision and a mech inf.

On June 24th of 1940 Bradley landed in Roma, crushing 4 Italian divisions. On the 28th Patton landed in Naples driving out two Italian divisons. On July third MacArthur landed on the heel of the boot and beat one Italian division. On the 8th Eisenhower landed in the Province opposite of Roma.

By mid November I had conquerd the entire peninsula and had 27 divisions on the German border, destroying at least 15 Italian divisions on the way. I also had controll of an Australian fighter and bomber squadran that inexplicably turned up in Venice.

MacArthur was in Messana with 12 divisions. Despite the reinforcements (which consisted of two marine and one armoured) and a naval bombardment he couldn't take Syracuse, which was held by 17 land divisions and one tactical bomber squandran.

Syracuse didn't fall untill late December when Simpson landed with four mech and three aroumed. Giving me 19 divisions in Sicily.

Despite the fact that I now have all of Italy including Sicily and Sardina I can only Pupet government it. I can't annex it because they have a lot of East Africa. That is just ridiculous!

I have transfered Simpsons corp to Venice. Bradley and Eisenhower have taken two border German provinces. Patton attacked Munich from Bradley's province but has been repulsed and is retreating back to Bradley's lines has we speak.

The Germans have total air superiority but that will not help them. Once I tranfer MacArthur's men to the front line I will have 46 divisions on their southern border. With most of their men tied down on the Russian front they will not be able to resist me.

I landed 4 mech inf and 2 armoured divisions under some dopey looking general whose name I forget in Bordeaux in southern France. They were slaughtered on the beaches and they are currently retreating to their ships. They have lost half their men. I plan to reinforce them in England and then land them in Antwerp.

So as of Jan 24th 1941 I have 75 divisions, 15 of which are armoured. 5 carrier battle groups, and 16 mostly obsolete air squadrans. I have very good infantry weapons (Yippe, assualt rifles) and am researching produce Uranium232. I think I will ahve the bomb by mid 42, early 43 at the latest. But my haphazard research has left me with low to mid levels on almost every thing else. Next time I will try to be more focused.

With Italy out of the war I think Germany will fall by late 42 or early 43. Hopefully I will be able to transfer most of my men to the Asian theater, but the AI only knows what will happen when American and Soviet lines link up, we are not allied after all.
If we fight I should have the upper hand as I have not lost that many men. No division under my command has ever been anhilated. But I have probaly lost what is equivlant to 110,00 men KIA so far. I have over 3500 manpower points left. The Soviets must have lost far more then that.

Well thats whats happened. My game seems to be one of the few where the Germans did not roll over the Soviets when a real live person wasn't involved. It's been wacky but it all could have been possibly I think.

So what do you guys think?

I forgot to mention I played this on normal difficulty with normal AI agressivness.

Well, what do you know? History gone out the door again, but I do hope, you'll get some nice suprices in the Pacific sometime soon. ;)

How do I post a flag under my name?

It is now March 5th of 1941. I transfered nine of the divisions in Sicily to the German front and launched operation Icepick with 43 divisions and 2 Australian air squadrans on February 22. Munich, Nuremburg, Winterberg and two provinces on the side have fallen.

The other 3 divisions in Sicily I embarked in Africa and have sent them to conquer Italian East Africa so I can annex the whole country. It is defended by only a few divisions that are very spread out. It will take them a couple of months to get there.

For some reason I could not land in Antwerp or any where else on the French coast besides Bordeaux. The computer said landing in Hamburg was permisable but the whole Italian army in exile, 15 divisions are stationed there for no apparent reason. So I sent them to Venice and they are now marching towards Graz.

Hungary now holds almost all of what was once Romania, but the Soviets now hold 2/3rds of Finland. The other fronts have barely moved.

Bulgaria isn't part of the Allies after all, I just couped them and influenced them to be democratic. My bad, thats what I get for not taking notes.

If all the AAR's were historical then that would get a little boring after a while, wouldn't it?:)

Operation Icepick has given Germany a lobotomy!:D

It's April 25th 1941, Berlin and Dresden have fallen to Bradley. 20 South/Central German provinces are now under my control. I have 57 divisions in ocupied Germany, and 3 divisions are marching toward the front from Venice.

Is it possible to capture Hitler? I was kinda hoping I would when Berlin fell. Why hasn'y he killed himself yet?

The Soviets have taken advatage and launched their own offensive. Most of Hungary occupied Romania has been captured. And after 2 years of tyranny Minsk has been liberated, and the Soviets took the province beyond it.

The Winter War ended in March and a seperate peace was made between the Sovites and the Finns and Swedes. The eastern provinces were ceded to Russia. However has soon as the Soviets shifted their Northern army to attack German, Finland stabbed them in the back and decleared war again!

I decided it wouldn't be worth the effort to divert troops from Europe to conquer Italian East Africa. So I just installed a puppet government in Rome. However half of Italy's colonies became German colonies.

I sunk a lightly gaurded Japenese invasion force that was headed for Guam. The Japanese/Burma front has remained fluid, but hasn't really changed.

I've run into Japanese tactical bombers in Germany!

How the heck did they get there!

VE day July 29th

Operation Icepick was transformed into Operation Pickaxe. One Army Group struck out to the west, another to the east. The Geramans launched a ferocious counterattack from the west and east aimed at cutting my supply lines to Italy in June. They almost succeded, their tanks were very fast, but it was to little to late.

Warsaw and Paris fell to my armies by the first week of July. France and Belgium were liberated soon after. I had annexed Hungary and Slovakia by that time, although the Soviets got some of Hungary. My border province is Budapest.

On July 29th I annexed the Greater German Reich, including Poland. I now have an IC over 1100 and 3400 manpower points left!

Since Japan is still tied down fighting the British in Burma and the Soviets in Siberia, were they just captured a province, I have decided to invade the Soviet Union in the spring. Operation Snow Plow is tentativly fixed for April 15th 1941.

Inexplicably Lithuania joined theAxis on September 11th and annexed it within 5 days. About the same time the Soviet Union finaly defeated Finland and Annexed it.

I have built up a force of 76 divisions on our border and have positioned 4 in Bulgaria to strike from the south. I have begun resarching atom bomb production, the ramjet, and nuclear delivery veichels. World Hegemeny is assured.

Mwhaaa! Mwhaaa!:D :

Opps!

That invasion is set for April 15th 1942, not 1941. I should preview next time I post.

How do I put a map of my conquests up?

Good God Why!?

Disaster struck on Februrary 14th 1942. My IC droped from over 1300 to 723. I can barely feed my army. I can find nothing to cause this. None of my provinces were conquered, there were no strikes. After I conquered Germany in July 1941 I stopped improving industry back home in America, but shouldn't that have freed up some more IC.

This forced me to invade the Soviet Union on the 16th of February. 99 American divisions have ripped through the front line and by March 8th Minsk, Smolensk, Lenningrad, Kiev and Soviet Romania have fallen to me. But my IC has only increased to 740.

I have noticed that my stockpile of Iron and Oil has fallen from 9999 both to about 500, but Rubber went up from 2 to 230. Why! I haven't done anything new on the world market or with convoys in a couple of years.

What am I doing wrong!

IC has dwindeled to 647. Some how my iron is only 500. OIL and Coal is maxed out and I have 200 rubber. I can understand the rubbber, but 500 iron! I am America! I have arranged convoys and traded on the world market, but nothing seems to work. How could my economy simply collapse?

On another note Moskow, Sevastapole and Stalingrad have fallen to an onslaught to over 100 divisions. Why won't Stalin offer the bitter peace? Not that I would accept, just wondering if the USSR only offers that to Germany, or Romania:p

I figured out what I was doing wrong. When I invaded Italy back in 1940 I set up a couple of convoys there, but when I puppeted them I forgot to stop the convoys. So Italy got all my steel!

I canceled those convoys and my IC shot up to 847 by May 4th.

My Amries are only one province from the Urals, and I have captured most of the Caucasus. However even though my men are in supply, atrittion is realy bad, I looked away for a week and two armies disolved! 20 whole divisions lost!

Fortunatly 79 divisions on the east front are left and I have paid more attention to them.

The Japanese have finally broken the British lines in Burma and have split India in half. They will be able to take the whole thing.

The Spanish have invaded France and taken six or seven provinces. I have sent 11 divisions to kick them out and conquer Spain. Then they will be sent East to replace the men who froze to death.

Spain is folding like a house of cards and the Soviet Union's got no resistence left to offer. Japan is the only one left and I don't feel like taking a year to march across Siberia to annex the Soviets and then invade China.

So the war is over, FDR declares victory, peace is made with Japan and everything west of the Urals is American as well as Spain. World Hegemony is ours.

Mwhaaa! Mwhaaa!

Who should I play next, any suggestions?

Well, it depends on what you are feeling up to. Want a real challenge? Try Communist China or Ethiopia:) , you also might want to take a look at either of the Spains.
