WAR!
Germany demanded Danzig or war, and when Poland rejected her demands remained true to her threat. Germany has declared war on Poland, plunging the worlds two greatest alliances into war. The Allies consist of Poland, the French and British Empires, as well as the Commonwealth nations of Canada, South Africa, New Zeland and of course Australia, while the Axis consists of Germany, Spain, Hungary, and Slovakia. Lyons has declared that "the full might of the Australain military will be brought to bear in defeating this menace to civilzation. Resources will be shifted from Research and Devlopment to production, especialy to the transports that were begun last year, but were allowed to languish in drydock while the military splurged on R&D."
September 22nd 1939
Germans at the gates of Warsaw, Polish airforce annihilated, whole Army corps shattered, Poland on its last legs. Spain launches offence into southern France, capture Marsellie. BEF lands at Cherbourg, heads east to the Maginot line. All of Europe hangs in the balance.
November 9th 1939
Germany annexes Poland and begins shifting men to the western front. Our military advisors expect the western front to remain static during the winter, to be broken during early spring by a joint German/Spanish offense, with the Germans probably going through the low countries. However the low countries steadfastly refuse to join the Allies
November 12th 1939
Shocking allied military comand, Hitler has declared war on Luxemburg, Belgium, and the Neatherlands today, and launched a lightning quick strike into these countries, the German word is Blitzkrieg. The low countries have been forced into the allaince they'd refused to join just a month ago, the Allies.
December 11th 1939
Germans annexes Luxemburg after a ferocious month long battle with a dozen French divisions. Antwerp and Brussels are the only cities still holding out in Belgium and Holland. French counter attack captures German provinces facing the Maginot line, but German pressure is likely to force them back into their pill boxes.
German U-boats skirmish with the Royal Navy, as the Luftwaffe tangels with RAF and French airforce over Belgium.
December 12th 1939
Antwerp falls! Government flees to London, all Holland lies underneath the German jackboot. French forces forced back into the Maginot line.
January 2nd 1940
Belgium occupied, German armies cross into France, capture Rheims. Fierce winter storms bog down the assualt and lines start to solidify for the first time in this highly fluid war. Spanish offense stalls but throws back strong French counter attacks.
August 10th 1940
Northern Command, consisting of 3 inf, 2 mtn, 1 mot, and 1 mech division under Feild Marshall Blamey have left Australia for points unkown in the first Imperial fleet, which consists of 7 transports and the 1st destroyer flotilla. We can only hope that our boys come home safely, we here at the Sydney Morning Herald will pray them.
August 21st 1940
Northern Commnad has made an unoppossed amphipious assualt on the Spanish Isle of Mahon. We at the SMH can only wonder, "whats the point".
August 23rd 1940
The Isle of Palma was stormed and a Spanish infantry division was driven off, however Northern Command suffered 100 dead, the first Australian casulties of the war and by far not the last.
Lyons calls on the nation to prepare for greater sacrifce.
