And just one point to make as a person who came from the modding scene in CS1 to the modding scene in CSII - CS1's editor was vastly superior to any other game's modding capabilities at the time. I remember another game at the time (back in 2015 era) that you had to write code to inject your asset into the game and it would break every update. CO came up with an elegant and easy to use asset editor. It had its own limitations and the game itself was limited by the technology of the time as you'd expect, but it was a fantastic piece of software.
CSII is vastly superior to CS1's editor - there is so much you can do without needing to write a code mod, that I don't even know how I will write about it all in detail on a wiki. That seriously keeps me up at night. I don't even have the words to express how powerful and how frankly cutting edge the abilities CO gave the in game editor is. Once it is in a more stable state (ie once we get VT and serialisation sorted) it's going to be an incredible tool to use, doing things you could only dream about in CS1.
Pdx_peanut wrote this in the UK pack fix update thread last week. This is about as good as we have as far as a progress update. VT and Serialisation, what ever that means.

Pdx_peanut ha scritto questo nel thread di aggiornamento del pacchetto di correzione del Regno Unito la scorsa settimana. Questo è il massimo che abbiamo per quanto riguarda un aggiornamento sui progressi. VT e Serializzazione, qualsiasi cosa significhi.

VT and serialization, if I'm not mistaken, are the 2 aspects that have also been highlighted in the official statements here on the forum.

So, this is probably nothing new. We can only say that the more time passes the worse it is because they are unable to fix these 2 things, assuming that only these 2 are the problem...

Yup, so since september, it's just a post from Peanut (really nothing against him, thanks to him for all the hard work on the region packs) that basically says that the asset editor is great at its core, that it was miles ahead from competition in CS1 but still had quirks and that they need to fix VT and Serialization to release it. I'm not sure it qualifies as a status update sadly. Still an interesting take.

Apparently CO/PDX can't be bothered enough to keep its community informed about a feature that was integral to their first game and absolutely expected in the second. The infuriating part is that it's actually quite simple:
  • You have good news or progress to report? Say it.
  • They're still facing challenges? The same? New one? Say it.
There are avenues of topics they could be covering regarding this feature to keep the community informed.

It’s crazy that they would ship CS2 without an asset editor in the first place. CS1 wouldn’t have been nearly as successful if it weren’t for the mod community.

I'm not an expert but it seems they're not either. Could CO/PDX hire a team of VT & Serialization engineers? Could be useful, after almost two years of no progress on this specific task.

Unfortunately, it's the same thing we've been repeating for months and months, an unacceptable situation, without excuses.

The asset editor is vital importance to cover the many gaps in the game, thanks to the work of modders (in many cases much better and faster than the developers), as has already happened with CS1.

Now we are at the dawn of Q2 2025 and still all is quiet...
