I've honestly been surprised with the lack of front on a Paradox Game with a Greek Theme, especially the 550 BC - 330 BC period, maybe even Alexander... Lack of info, maybe? Anyway, the best game would have to be one centered in Ancient Greece... Pitching for a future game!

The only way I can see this happening is if it is in Rome 2.

It'd be better if, instead of making Rome 2, they made a new game like 'Classical Age' so you can play from like 600 bc to 400 ad.

Orr call it Rome 2 but expand the timeline almost all the way back to the birth of Rome; allow "start at any date"? That'd be awesome. Yeah they'd need to take some creative license when writing the /history files but so what :) Rome having been founded sometime between 753 BC and 728 BC, -600 to 453 could be absolutely possible. Or perhaps -500 to 500?

There was a really great mod called "Imperium" in the original Rome that was simply breathtaking. That mod had THE MAP, the features and the timeline. If I were them, I'd start with the that. Maybe expand the Map, but keept in that depth. That was one hell of a mod.

I vaguely recall one of the devs saying that one of their post-EU4 projects was an as-of-yet-unannounced brand new IP, so this may be more than just a possibility.
On the other hand, I honestly don't like Ancient Greece a whole lot, I would rather have Rome 2 or a late antiquity/dark ages game.

The era of antiquity around the Mediterranean, near Asia, and greater Europe (Ancient Greece times) would be very cool.

Anything between mid millennium BC and the first millennium AD has the potential to be interesting.

There is a great game by Slitherine Strategies called Spartan (and its expansion Spartan: Gates of Troy). It is very similar to Chariots of War and Legion - its two previous grand titles. Paradox released Legion and CoW, but not Spartan (I think).

You can buy it online - I'm sure it's quite cheap.

how can it be ancient greece if it's in the near future

check mate

;)

I saw the title and before I read the thread I thought it was going to be about a game set in the near future in a scenario where Ancient Greece is brought back somehow. I was about to roll my eyes so hard they would fall out of my skull. I'm glad I was wrong though.

Back on topic, a game spanning a longer period of time and focusing not only on Rome but also Greece and North Africa would be excellent. I'd play the hell out of it.

Would love to see Ancient Med getting a PDS game.

Slitherine works with Matrix now, which means it's probably not that cheap anymore

That's how I read it too.

Yeah, Roman themed grand strategy games aren't financially viable at all. [/sarcasm]
I don't understand how people can call any Roman themed game not viable. There are basically two periods of history that people in general are interested in: WWII and Ancient Rome.
