It may just be nationalist(cityalist?) whining, and it has no effect on gameplay, but I'd call the large Texas panhandle province Lubbock rather than Amarillo. We were founded a whole year earlier, have a larger population, and we're the economic hub of the South Plains. Besides is there anyone on the forums from Amarillo?

Other than that, I'd say the US looks good. I'd strongly suggest mutiliating much of West Africa, especially southern Algeria, for more provinces. I'd also like to see more borders reworked along rivers, or other aesthetically pleasing features.. For example, the borders after a German victory over Belgium would look much nicer if the provinces were situated along the Meuse.

OK some more map ideas

Algeria

Merging 6 sets of provinces :

1277+1278
1240+1783
1782+1811
1315+1316
1268+1269
1308+1319

And will use 3 of these for new provinces in the North to better reflect the difficulties the French would face early on conquering Algeria

Net +3 tags left over for other uses

Libya

Merging 7 sets of provinces :

1317+1813+1814
1312+1810
1809+1812
1804+1845
1843+1844
1343+1347

In addition, 1313 is split between 1314 and 1318

Gross gain +8 provinces

Use 1 province to add new province on Libyan coast in Tripolitania

Net Gain = +7 Provinces for other uses

Could a province be placed between the US Border and Ottawa? As I understand it, its distance from the US border was an influence in its choice as the Canadian Capital. It also might make Canada less of a pushover in US-Canadian wars.

Would definitely consider it. A Kingston province might not be so bad.

alot of these suggestion look good, I really like New Mexico, that was exactly what i would of suggested. If you need any photoshop guru's (if vicky's magellan anything like EU2) im here :D

OK more maps for North America

California

merged 3 sets of provinces.

Georgia

adding one province

Oklahoma

Keeping OK as 3 provinces, using the Arkansas River and its tributaries to split the main part of OK into 2 provinces.

Pacific Northwest

remove one province from Oregon, add one to Washington, make the splits based on the Cascades and Eastward river systems in the interior.

Alaska & West Canada

Alaska now will be 5 provinces - removed province #128 and split between US and Canada to improve the AK Panhandle-BC border. Gain 1 additional province ID.

British Columbia now has 9 provinces, merging 3 pairs as outlined earlier.

Alberta now has 7 provinces, merging 3 pairs and splitting another province to expand Edmonton and Calgary. Gain of 2 more province IDs

Saskatchewan now has 7 provinces, merging 2 pairs as outlined earlier.

so is the map compatable with original version of victoria??

it's not even made yet - we're just in the first design stage. Must wait for the technology to make the map to be produced first.

It should be workable with either basic Victoria or Revolutions, will just require a good amount of editing event files, AI files etc to reflect the existence of new provinces.

there will be several months before this will be ready for use.

oh i see, i suggest that the amur and manchurian areas should be revised

Saint Catherines should be spelled "Saint Catharines", but even that's not very good as the proper name is spelled St., not Saint. If I may suggest, call it "Niagara" instead. It was called that when first settled, and it's still called Niagara Region or the Niagara Peninsula today.

I'd even call it "Welland" before "St. Catharines", as the Welland Canal was quite important to the Lake Ontario/Erie region at the start of the Victoria period.

Actually I think I'll switch it to Hamilton to keep it to the general convention of naming after cities.

Come on, Europe is more significant than the United States!

Well, suggestions please. :D

Note, in general I really would prefer not adding any more provinces in Western Europe - I really don't see the need. Some border redrawing of current borders, sure, but in general this mod will focus more outside Western Europe.

Alright, give Russia ll the provinces then :D (Eastern Europe :D)

Again want to be more specific...

I do think some areas of the Balkans could use some help, esp Moldavia, Wallachia, Bulgaria and what is modern day Macedonia.

Manchuria and Siberia could use some more provinces. In games as Japan, I've noticed that there is simply no strategy or fun when fighting Russia. The provinces are so gargantuan that both sides just pile their 25000-man uberstacks into one or two provinces. This also has the side effect of making any peace deal where Japan takes provinces look very unnatural.

Yeah, it seems queer to me the devs stuffed such places as the Sahara and Central America with provinces but left Manchuria so threadbare - seeing as unlike the other two areas Manchuria saw large-scale Great Power military action.

Unsurprisingly, I would like to see more provinces in China. At very least, having the Portuguese in Macau would be an improvement. I actually like the HOI2 map of China better, for what it's worth.

Is the number of provinces hard-coded into the game? If so, are there any free tags in V:R? If not, aside from making our CPUs work harder, what would be the reason not to double or triple the number of provinces?

Can you tell us more about this map-making utility in the works? Why only now, after three years?
